I still think the ending was the best part of the show other than the first episode. Which is not to say the ending was that spectacular or anything, but I at least thought it was decent.

the anime mostly faithfully covered 32 chapters in the first 10 episodes before proceeding to pretty much ignore the final 12 with a completely rewritten ending which has literally nothing interesting happen in it whatsoever

Man I'm pissed.

After taking probably a month to crawl my way through Mahouka, why does the first thing in 20 episodes to actually make me want more Mahouka happen in the last 5 minutes of the series? Like I'm actually interested in what's going on finally and then suddenly there's no more episodes.

I just watched all twelve episodes of Kakegurui and... man, it was amazing. I can see why other people might've been disappointed with it depending on what they wanted from the concept but this was exactly what I hoped it would be. Without spoilers I'll just say that Yumeko is a style of character that I always enjoy and she didn't disappoint. I also loved how they approached gambling with all of the creative games rather than going with more standard ones. It was fun trying to pick out all the nuances as each gamble unfolded.

Anyway, yeah, 10/10 anime, easily sliding into my current top five. Very happy it already has a second season announced.

Whew lad, I want more Evergarden and I just wrapped up today's ep.

We've all been saying it up We Never Learn really did a number on Yuuna. Hoping the anime turns things around, but it's still overall had a good run by average jump series standards.

Hinomaru lived way longer than many of us expected so what we got extra was a bonus.

I think it should have ended on the strong climax it had, but who knows it managed to skirt by on really low rankings before.

It's pretty much straight ecchi with little pretense, but I guess more power to it for that. The male MC not being a total goon makes it a little better. I don't care for it though.

Watched No Game No Life Zero. Pretty good stuff! I definitely didn't like it as much as the series though. Riku wasn't as interesting a protagonist as Sora, and while Schwi was pretty good, she didn't quite reach Shiro's heights. The art was incredible like it was in the series either. Everything looked good, especially the eyes, but it wasn't nearly as bright and colorful. There wasn't as much humor, and even the emotional moments didn't feel as powerful. That said, the movie still had its cool parts. The romance was pretty much perfect. Schwi's development throughout the movie was excellent. Seeing the plans bear fruit was pretty cool. So yeah, good, just not on the same level as the TV series IMO.

It's hard to justify buying anime nowadays. I had both the new Mai-Hime and Mai-Otome sets in my Amazon cart this morning, before deciding to see if they'd been added to FUNi streaming as well. Soon as I confirmed they were I emptied my cart.

I just finished Princess Principal, which I've been meaning to watch ever since it won best OP in the coveted Board 8 Anime Awards. I thought it was pretty good! Usually stories being shown out of order would bother me but this show handled it surprisingly well. I liked every character and enjoyed every episode. I also loved the steam-punk aesthetic of the setting.

I'm 2 episodes into B the Beginning. This is very good. Animation quality is excellent, action and the sparse humor are excellent, dub is top notch. Both Keith and Lily are amazing, and B himself is intriguing if a bit Ergo Proxyish. So far this show kind of seems like Ghost in the Shell meets Ergo Proxy, but it's very much it's own thing.

Baccano is one of those shows that has very dedicated fanbase.

It's about as close to universally praised within the b8 anime community as you're gonna get.

Might not be your fav, but it'll usually have a lasting impact. The thing that people disagree on is dub vs sub.

Lot of name calling when it comes to that subject.

Well I'm somewhat known for my bad opinions (right now even I'm still watching the Garden of Sinners movies and I'm not exactly loving them) so I guess I'll see how Baccano goes.

I'll watch the sub unless I can't find it otherwise. I certainly don't understand Japanese but I still prefer having the original voices behind the subtitles so that at least stuff like the characters tone isn't at risk of being lost in translation.

Most people here think I have bad opinions and I loved Baccano

The thing is that Baccano is set in early 1900's New York during prohibition, so the version that doesn't necessarily hit the right tone is the Japanese one, since the dub uses appropriate accents for all of the characters. Not to say the sub isn't excellent in its own right.

Probably also the best visual representation of "this fight is happening too fast to actually see so we're slowing everything else down around it to show that" I've ever seen.

Finished it. B: The Beginning thoughts. No story spoilers, just structure stuff. I'll put it behind black bars anyways for people who want to go in completely blind. I do highly recommend it, to put that out there. It's a very clean second place behind Devilman for me this season, so 2 for 2 so far, Netflix. Now I get to look forward to marthoning another show next friday. Who needs a social life.

What they didn't tell us ahead of time was that this wasn't the whole thing. B: The Beginning is without a doubt just season 1 of 2, with B: The End likely being the next. Netflix autoplay does it's best to hide the post credits stinger, lol.

Whether that's something they're already working on or far off is unknown, and as such the show isn't perfect so far on it own. One of the main plots does wrap up entirely and has a satisfying run through, but the other half of the plot has clearly just hit the midway point.

The show is visually impressive throughout, though it does lead with it's best foot forward. Sountrack, directing, and voice work (for the dub) are top. Fights are infrequent and short, but damn do they look nice. The real meat though is the criminal drama side of the story, which is the more fleshed out side of this first half.

The only real issue is that the show is a little too packed. The amount of content feels like it would be more comfortable in about 18 episodes rather than 12, and as a result the extended cast has the issue of being great but needing more screen time. Hopefully the second season fixes that. I also foresee it fixing the lack of world establishment. The setting of B is very intriguing but isn't fleshed out a ton, so you know how this society functions but it isn't explored.

While these issues are obvious they don't actually detract all that much, at the end of the day it's just a good watch on all fronts. I wouldn't say you should wait for the second season to drop before watching.

I'm seven episodes into B: The Beginning and this certainly isn't what I was expecting from what little I knew about it! Still, I'm enjoying it. My only complaint right now is that the major elements of the story feel disjointed but I'll wait and see if the last five episodes help pull everything together.

You get any further? I'm curious to see what other people think. Opinions are varying wildly, and it's very understandable to see why.

Also damn do I wish it was called something else, because it's a real bitch searching for a title that's "one letter + common word".
