I don't know how it's forced when it was alluded to back in the first season. That being said, assuming you're talking about the first arc, it is definitely still the weakest part of the two seasons, and the rest of season 2 easily eclipses season 1

Sound Euphonium S2 spoilers it just felt contrived that Kumiko was in the middle of something that by rights had nothing to do with her. She ran into people randomly or was in the perfect position to eavesdrop and then they'd entrust this random first-year with the full story and rely on her to fix it. Nothing from S1 gave me such an overt feeling of 'this is only happening because Kumiko is the protagonist'. It didn't help that I felt the whole prior year situation was expanded on well enough in S1, it didn't need six more episodes of drama here.

That said, I just started the second arc so hopefully it is indeed better!

I look forward to the new Lupin the Third, Tonegawa (Kaiji spin-off), the Persona 5 show, and I like that there's always a Full Metal Panic show on these anicharts, maybe it'll really happen this time. I won't believe it until I'm watching it. :D

Hmm, decided to drop Hakumei and Mikochi. I generally like the show and pretty much all of its aspects, but it usually feels like it's missing something. Like it's a mediocre adaptation of amazing source material. Apparently people who've read the manga say the same, so I think I'll just quit watching and check the manga out at some point.

No to both, though I do still plan to finish Symphonic Rain "eventually".

Rewrite is also an instant-buy whenever it gets an English release (which looks like it's been announced at least).

I finally caught up on the last two episodes of Violet Evergarden. It's a shame it had that boring stretch between episodes 2-4 because 5-7 have all been great. Hopefully it can keep this up the rest of the way.

Those were setup eps, helped build up the cast.

A lot of great shows do start out slow, there's just a huge a variety of paths that lead to the end result being a good product.

I would say something like Steins;Gate is another show that started pretty slow, but it helped solidify the cast and made you care more once the big stuff happens.

...oh and I guess it also applies to a lot of Gundam shows I ended up liking too!

But yeah slow starts can be a mood killer for any medium, but it's not necessarily a bad thing either.

I would probably be giving it more of a chance if it weren't for Netflix, as it stands the process of obtaining it seems not worth the effort. Still hasn't ponied up the interest to watch past episode 2, though I actively thought that was a bad episode, not just boring.

I don't really think any of this is true. Being early on is no reason not to have great content. It'll often just be a different kind of content. I thought the first half of SG was great. Had some excellent comedy with Kyouma and Kurisu, though the anime didn't do as well with the comedy as the VN did unfortunately.

To me, it didn't feel like episodes 2-4 set up anything important in Violet Evergarden, and what it did set up was all handled so clumsily. There did need to be some sort of bridge between 1 and 5 but episode 3 (by far the best of the bunch) alone would've sufficed if they made her 'impressive' letter actually impressive.

Still, no use dwelling on what I see as the bad stretch. I'm enjoying it a lot now and that's what counts!

Nice moving of the goalposts when you shifted from SG back to VE. I have said VE even with what can be considered a slow start by some was still producing good content building up the cast.

VE isn't even that slow since by ep 5 it produced the eps that have gotten a lot more praise. Heck to me it was even earlier than that.

Though are what are we even disagreeing on when it comes to show quality? I think SG and VE are good shows. You prefer the VN but don't exactly dislike the anime.

I was saying two things:

1. VE's early episodes weren't bad because they were slow. They had other issues.
2. SG's early episodes were slow, but that didn't make them bad. I wouldn't have mentioned SG if you didn't bring it up in your post.

I wasn't that negative about VE's early episodes either. I thought 3 was pretty great, actually! 4's the main one that wasn't as good as it could've been.

I think VE is the type of show that's better on a binge because of the slow build at the beginning

Slow start doesn't necessarily mean bad as long as you're into the world

Like the first 5 episodes of Gundam 00 doesn't do anything for non-mecha fans because nothing is explained but fans of the genre would be drooling over the mecha and world building

Wait, what? The first 8 or so episodes of Gundam 00 were amazing. Possibly the best part of the whole series. It was like I was watching Foundation with mechs or something.

Oh yea I definitely agree. It's probably my favorite part of the whole show because I loved the idea of the world it was building and how the show focused on each of the nations slowly integrating the central characters into the story. Amazingly fresh take on an old series/genre.

HeroAca won best opening, an OP mediocre enough the it even being nominated was dumb. Looks like it's gonna be this year's Yuri on Ice, just like I predicted. Oh well.

Oh wow, yea I want Hero to win a few of the awards but opening was not one of them. That's unfortunate, I hope people don't start hating on Hero now if it sweeps a lot.

It just swept all the character awards. Hero, Villain, Boy, and Girl. This night is done. Definitely winning AotY. It's a shame, they said they were taking steps to prevent this from happening again.

At least Lustrous won CGI, even if it lost animation to...HeroAca. Also Dragon Maid beat Konosuba for comedy. Not a bad win, but....the wrong one.

Oh I wanted Todoroki to win Best Boy so that makes me happy, and Stain for Villain is great

Deku winning Hero again and whichever won Girl is PROBABLY overkill, would have been better if it lost those probably but eh I'm certainly not gonna complain because I love the show.

Of course, the villain category had a ringer last year who lost, so not a lot of faith in that category to begin win.
