I've only watched the first episode of Antarctica so far, so I don't know what direction it's going in. Seems like it could be the type of show you'd like though, since it feels less episodic and more story-directed. Kinda a coming of age thing. That's assuming it stays focused on the story rather than being more SoL, which I think it will since it's anime original.

Girls und South Pole episode 2

it's good to hear Iguchi Yuka again, her singing in the ED is great too

the 4 main girls are all voiced by legendary seiyuu with Hayami Saori still not showing up until next episode

I think I realize why I didn't like Yuru Camp as much as this. There's just more talking in South Pole, more interaction between the characters.

Lack of free time has made me give up on airing. Episode comes out and there's other stuff I'd rather be doing. I prefer choosing a completed show and finding the time to watch it. Heck, even making time for Love Live weekly was a pain.

Also weekly discussion has lost its appeal. For example, reading people's thoughts, like Mac's, at the end of the season seems far more interesting than ltm's weekly hyperbole. And I don't get the people that keep up weekly just to be the "I told you so" types. Like, who cares? Maybe only anime youtubers where that is their job, and they're the only ones I get being super against netflix. And I'm sure not all of them are

I have a problem with procrastinating when there's a backlog because I see my folder has like 200 episodes

it takes my will away when I want to watch something because I'll constantly be thinking "this isn't that great maybe I should just drop" when shows aren't really bad

On that note, I felt that the second episode of A Place Further Than the Universe was a bit of a step down from the first. It became way too silly at times.

Nah, Hinata was good! It was mostly that Plan A was 'seduce a crewmember' and it devolved into a silly chase scene when that predictably failed. What made it even more jarring was that Plan B (talking to her mother's old teammates) was reasonable and actually worked. It felt like they threw the chase scene in because they needed to fill a laugh quota but it was so forced that it didn't work for me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still enjoying the show a lot. Ep2 just wasn't as good as Ep1!

I don't know if I agree with that assessment of the scene, especially considering the insert track used for it.

But hey, all that really matters is how you feel about it.

Yeah the second episode definitely gave it more of a PA Works cute girls with a purpose sorta feel than random SoL. Certainly has potential for you.

Yes. I'm asking what the reasons are? You said it was something I missed, so I'm wondering what it was.

I thought episode one was bad, but it's been better since then, though it still has major issues (Natsume being the worst and Eita sucking principle among them). Also it feels like Komiya doesn't belong in this show.

The conversation in the Anime Awards topic eventually mentioned Witch Craft Works so I decided to see what that was about on a whim... and then I binged the whole thing in one night. Kokoro may have given it a 2/10 but I though it was great! The characters were all a lot of fun (special mention to the group of five Tower witches) and those fight scenes were awesome. One of the earlier ones where Kagari absorbed the bullets, dropped them to the floor, and then aimed a finger gun at the other witch and said 'bang' before exploding the whole store, oh my god that was so hype.

A Place Further Than The Universe
-This was a pretty strong start to the season imo. This does a lot of things a first episode should, establishes characters and their goals, gives them personality, and lets the viewer have different things they can connect with. As for the rest of it like I was never a fan of the art style the show uses. However, this is one of the better premiers I've seen.

Yuru Camp
-Another episode I liked quite a bit and I'm not sure why. As far as actual content of thing happening there was not a lot. Rin basically goes camping and the other girl is sleeping and there is a pretty hilarious scene with them. It's just like some of the direction decisions and the like that I think are pulling this show up from something that might seem kind of meh to something that's pretty fun to watch. Like the ramen eating scene, that was amazing.

Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles
-Well the streak of good episodes had to end at one point. How do I put this... I don't think you can build a show based on like some girl wanting to be friends with another girl based on learning about ramen. I mean you can argue that shows have been made based off of less (or nothing) but it's not barely a comedy, there are barely jokes, not even gags. The best character is the jealous one you see for like two scenes. This is probably not as bad as I'm making it out to be, but no... this is still pretty bad.

Toji no Miko
-Okay so... what's going on? It's like I somewhat understand the premise of the world from the show but I feel like was a S1 and this is S2. Like the characters are just kinda tossed in there and all I have to off of in liking them or not is their basically brief introduction. Some of them (most of them) barely talk. Unsurprisingly I like the loli with the big sword who has the least amount of lines out of all the girls. I'm under no impression that this show is good... but this probably gets another episode if only because maybe it'll have good battle sequences. It's also an original show so... there's that.

Sanrio Danshi
-I'll say this got better as the episode went on. I think the premise of like being a guy and liking traditionally girly things is a neat concept for a show. The scene with like the little kids makes more sense because they are little kids... but like it doesn't seem to apply as much as you get older. Like I understand the overall message they are trying to send (or at least the one they seem to be) but it's almost like I don't know, it doesn't apply as much? I mean it does to an extent but I do feel like this is something that would feel more relevant if this was like from 5 years ago or something. On top of that I'm not sure the anime community is really the ones needing see this. But that's really more like not discussing the show and more like the kinda good it could do in commenting on social constructs. What I did find annoying are the shounen-ai/yaoi vibes. I understand why they are in there. I know why they are in there... but I also feel like it kind of undermines the shows premise. However, I'm guessing it's supposed to be more of like a bromance type thing. Just like Frodo and Sam. I also want to comment on the animation quality which was the first thing I really noticed because it's really bad and it almost caused me to drop it after the intro scene but I stuck with it because of the change of scene. I'm glad I did because, again, as a concept I liked the episode just it does have issues.

Citrus
-First off this show is beautiful. The overall directional in the episode was superb. I really enjoyed that the episode really seems to capture the point of view of Yuzu. Like almost every scene she's in is paced and shot in a way that reflects her mood or what she's going through. It also helps that she's not only a fairly likable character right now, but also one who is believable. She has exhibited some flaws but also some good traits as well and her character will bank on developing these. Also during the kiss scene I was uncomfortable and a lot it had to do with exactly how it was animated. Like the kiss scenes from say Prisma Illya are complete fan service and frankly I think it's great. The one in this episode though is great but for very different reasons. I will say Mei is a little more of a mystery right now. Anyway the best part of the episode was the cell phone part.

Grancrest Senki
-That mage outfit immediately reminded me of bastard instructor. You know, it would actually not be that bad of an outfit if the skirt/shorts part were not like so low cut. Mainly because people wear more outrageous stuff in real life... in public. In any case... Siluca... is actually one of my favorite characters so far this season. She really controls a lot of the episode. Theo though... is among the most boring characters this season. He's just very generic in the most uninteresting way you can be generic. I now want to get into the animation. Overall I think it was... okay? I don't know hard to measure with a show that is probably average right now. If you don't know I watch a lot of my anime in VR and the opening using a headset was great. Like I can see how on a normal monitor it might not be as interesting but when like the screen is huge and in front of your face it just looks really cool despite probably being kinda dull?

Pop Team Epic
-To have any enjoyment of this show at all you have to know a bit about anime and not just old anime but even some more recent stuff. Not only that but video games it seems, and french? And like actual voice actors? This might be too meta for its own good. But I'd argue even if you are like me and meet most of these requirements (I don't do french)... I still think this is a bad show. It was neat to see the references but references without context are just pointless. Like the jokes don't even really lead into anything nor are they actually led by anything. I can barely call them jokes and just a set of things that viewers in the know will be like "oh it's from that famous thing" and be like "that's kinda neat." That's like the extent of the appeal.

Slow Start
-I liked this a lot. I thought it was cute and that each of the characters showed off their personalities in a great way. The part where Eiko was insightful and all was like a really great moment I think. I also like how Hana doesn't really talk a lot even after being accepted by the group, mainly because it makes sense for both her situation and character that they've been building. The animation quality too is great... maybe too great. It's really weird because this is like the last show that needs such good animation quality.

I vaguely remember watching 1 episode of WCW. It was not very good so I didnt bother to watch more. I think the female lead didnt express much if any emotion in ep1 and the guy was like a damsel in distress. Honestly the most memorable part of the episode to me was that background guy called Obama >_>

I would've liked a another season too but I was also okay with how WCW ended. At this point I'm halfway expecting anime adaptations to let me down in some way by the ending but this one closed all the plot points I cared about while also managing to make it clear how things might progress if it did continue.
