Everything that happens in this show is incomprehensibly stupid and I love it.

That's when people were talking about it! Like many airing shows, all discussion died when it was done.

Prerelease it had very little buildup though. New studio and a wrote concept, not a lot of reason to get hyped.

Yeah I meant more like "how could one predict this show would be good based on the description?"

And word of mouth can only do so much when the show has a 7.3 on MAL and the synopsis is "loner high school boy suddenly gets asked to join school club by cute girl and oh by the way there's also video games." Doesn't exactly present a very compelling case.

Gamers is a good comedy in a year where it's beaten out by other good comedies, but still helped put Pine Jam on the map with it's surprising production values and good direction.

Just Because was certainly over ambitious, and had a pretty unique look on it's own. I'm hoping the BRDs smooth out the hassles.

I think if it had been a Crunchy release we'd be seeing those running into the background shots it kept having no business using get memed to heck.

Gabriel Dropout did nooooot look as good as Gamers. Neither is a powerhouse, but that seems nuts.

Animation and direction aren't 100% synonymous, either.

Well I finished Gamers! And not a moment too soon either.

I definitely wouldn't have watched it this quickly if not for the AotY topic, but on the other hand I wouldn't have been able to actually go through with itif I weren't enjoying the show a decent amount.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of the last episode being used as an excuse to trash DLC and lootboxes, but other than that I thought the show was pretty great. Really entertaining cast of characters imo. Though, this sort of comedy built around absurd coincidences and very eccentric personalities is probably my preferred style of anime comedy. In any case though I really liked this show. Probably my favorite comedy from 2017, though on the other hand I think I only watched like 4 of them or something.

The cast was solid in the first half, but I kinda feel like Chiaki was trash in the second half? She was basically an antagonist, but the show kept trying to portray her as sympathetic for whatever reason.

Oh yeah the later parts of the Usagi Drop manga were just bad in general. There was one good storyline Rin meeting her mom but everything else was just low quality. It was basically a totally different manga that felt nothing like the earlier stuff.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card
-I have to say seeing like CCS after so many years is weird. It's not even a reboot it's like a fucking sequel. I don't know if anyone else remembers when this show was big, but it was huge enough where even with the awful dub it was immensely popular. I remember they sold like actual toys and stuff, like this one of Kero where he said in a completely monotone voice "You are the card captor". As for the actual show, pretty much like a lot of fan service for fans of the show. They reintroduced a bunch of characters and introduce some main plot points for the series.

School Babysitters
-This is pretty cute. Kind of predictable in the path it took but that's fine. I do think the emotional hit was not really quite as strong as it could have been. However, I'm pretty sure this is primarily a comedy. Some parts like when the little brother tried to get into the fight cloud was pretty funny too.

Mitsuboshi Colors
-Damn, blue girl is fucking savage. She's like my favorite character so far this year. Probably the funniest show that has aired so far.

Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san
-I wasn't sold when I read the concept of this show but after watching it I really liked it. It's both funny and cute at the same time. The facial expression are spot on in this title.

Ryuuou no Oshigoto!
-So I was worried there would not be like a real loli show. In any case pretty much did a good job at combining being cute and having nice character banter. I've heard this is from a popular LN so it has to be okay... right? (looks over at SAO).

Kokkoku
-Not really sure what to make of this quite yet. The actual premise is not bad but with such rapid information being given to us they need to somehow supplement this.

Dame x Prince Anime Caravan
-Ehh...don't really know how to approach this. I'm not big into the reverse harem genre but this one at the very least doesn't seem awful. But at the same time doesn't have that spark.

-Best premier of the season so far.

Straight up, I think they think Americans are too dumb to understand a Netflix show being released weekly. Like they'd be getting a ton of complaints about how they've got an incomplete series on their service.

The first episode of Violet Evergarden was indeed very good, I'm excited to watch more. My only fear is that they're going to treat Gilbert being dead (I assume) as some big twist eventually when it really isn't. Then again they've also made it super obvious so hopefully they won't try to go that route. I suppose he could be alive, too, but... I think that would undermine a lot of things so I hope not.

I also gave in to peer pressure due to discussions here again and started watching Gamers, though I'm only seven episodes in. It is impressive how far these five characters are managing to carry their misunderstandings. I wouldn't call it my favorite comedy of 2017 (at the moment it would be... fifth? Maybe sixth depending on what counts as a comedy) but it's still good.

with the bad Engrish translated title (yes I'm exaggerating and purposefully messing up the title) and flat characters I just don't see a reason to watch more of this ramen commercial

the club activities are great, I love the girls just messing around doing cute things

the solo camping, and probably group camping in the future, is just torture. trying to show off the mediocre drawn scenery is laughable.
