Do you think people who have a fascination and support of Nazi memorabilia should be monitored?

38 y/o Nicholas Young is the FIRST White American COP charged with attempting to support ISIS..AND he was a NAZI FANTATIC!!!!

The Virginia native was convicted Monday in federal court after a week long trial as Attorney Dana Boente said "Nicholas Young swore an oath to protect and defend, and instead violated the public's trust by attempting to support ISIS"

He was a police officer for the transit system in the US capital region and was under surveillance by the FBI for 6-13 YEARS and was finally busted last year after being targeted in a sting operation.

He bought gift cards he thought would be used by ISIS and believed the informnt he was messaging with was an acquaintance of the militant group but was actually an undercover FBI agent

The sourced posed as a US military reservist of Middle East descent was becoming more religious and eager to leave the US Military as a result of having had to fight against Muslims

He bought nearly $250 in gift cards he intended to give to ISIS to use to purchase mobile apps that would facilitate communication

Nicholas as a 12 year veteran of the transit police force and was found guilty of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization and faces 60 YEARS in prison.

His lawyers tried to defend him stating it was entrapment

Evidence included NAZI MEMORABILIA where he dressed as an SS officer in WW2 and a tattoo on his arm celebrating unit. He also collected literature advocating violent jihad and watched ISIS videos

He travelled to Libya twice where he seeked to join rebel forces and oust dictator Muammar Gaddafi. He travelled with body armor, a kevlar helmet and other military style items

He also advised his source on how to evade detection by law enforcement by using specific travel methods that he learned as an officer. He also BRAGGED about the terror attacks in Charlie Hedbo and praised what happened there.

Young told the FBI that he also had a fascination with Nazism and collected them his whole life as he also showed an officer a German Eagle on his neck.

Do you think people who have a fascination with Nazi Memorabilia should be monitored?

The guy's a Nazi worshiper who was looking to join the most prominent terrorist organization in the world, and you brush it off as just looking for a cause to support and toss in a superficial compliment for good measure? Right.

lolwut? Well, I can't exactly compliment his morality, intelligence, or judgment if he's looking to join a terrorist group, now can I? Otherwise I'm not sure how you read that as "brushing it off" or why you'd focus on the "superficial compliment" sandwiched between the two insults but you do you, adjl, you do you.

SMH... its not surprising at all. History lesson time:

Otto Skorzeny, the commando who led the operation to free Mussolini from prison for Hitler, fled with many other prominent Nazis into Egypt and Palestine at the end of the war and trained Islamic radicals. Modern terrorist doctrine is actually the werwolf partisan concept invented by Skorzeny towards the end of WWII. Many SS members adopted Muslim names and blended in. This was aided by powerful friends in the region, including Egypts ruler(s). The remnants of the Third Reich are actually Islamic terrorists and not neo-Nazis.

Its ironic that the neo lot hate a group their idols revered.

Not sure that there's a real continuity between the groups then and today, though. And the remnants of the actual Third Reich are mostly still in Germany afaik since the bulk of the soldiers who weren't tried for war crimes just went back to living their lives.

I don't see what this has to do with the thing he's accused of. Also this sentence implies that memorabilia can depict his actions in the present which is illogical.

What is an arm celebrating unit? Can it celebrate things other than arms?

Or did you mean that he has a tattoo on his arm which honors the Unified Intelligence Taskforce from Doctor Who?

There is. It went along like a chain. Its easily accessed information. Heard of Yasser Arafat? And how influential he was? Guess who was his buddy?

Skorzeny was involved in helping prep for some of the attacks on Israel by the Arabs decades ago too. All of their training started with Skorzeny and spread. Hes patient zero for ME terrorism... the fact the tactics are literally all built upon his teachings is proof enough as well.

Your rebuttal amounts to I dont know anything but I still think youre wrong. Lots of former SS went to the Middle-East because they had powerful friends like the head of Egypt and the Grand Mufti (while tons more fled to South America - unrelated to terrorism, but a counterpoint to the returned to Germany comment). These guys escaped along the rat lines and adopted Islamic names. At least do some research to avoid looking totally oblivious when you debate...

Because you're apparently so knowledgeable on the subject, perhaps you could explain, in detail, how that actually constitutes a chain. Right now your explanation sounds a little weak. And, generally speaking, the burden of proof is on somebody making an argument, not the person questioning it. You should probably know that when talking about debating, lest you sound oblivious =p

So far your argument sounds like you could also argue that the descendants of dictators put in power by Americans are closer to American values than democrats elsewhere simply by virtue of having been placed by Americans (which, when their regime holds up, constitutes "an unbroken chain" even the current dictator doesn't even embody the last dictator's values). After all, it's not like ISIS members, etc, believe in actual Nazi ideology.

Otherwise, like I said, if you were to ask, "Where are the majority of Nazis and their descendants today?", the answer would be Germany since those not wanted for war crimes (who then needed to find any kind of a former ally simply for the sake of convenience) just settled back down in their own country.
