Because I heard you're not supposed to do it, to keep your skin stronger. When I shower, I splash around in the water to wash off dirt but to clean with soap (I heard) is making feet soft and not resilient.

The guy who told you not to do it is just gross, and the skin thing is just calluses, which you could still have even if you wash your feet. Like how a guitar player can still have calluses on their fingers even tho they wash them a lot. You should start washing your feet dude.

Plus it's the 2000's we don't really need foot calluses since we have shoes and socks.

It was a girl who told me that. And I don't have calluses, but I have started to wash my feet better just recently. Did you know there are religious people who wash feet for free? They do it as a tribute to Jesus. But yea, as I said in that thread a while back I went to a pedicurist who washed my feet real good and am thinking of going back.

I don't wash my feet either

The water and soap run down and I'm standing in it already. Rubbing my loofah on my feet isn't going to do anything more

Obviously if I step in something or get something on my feet I would wash/wipe it off but during daily showers I'm not rubbing my feet

You make a good point, but that leads to making enemies and an eventual downfall.

They do it because they can. A lot of people would do the same if they had their notoriety and money. It's easy to not do something when you don't have the capability of doing it.

Pretty damned hard, because "being an asshole" is more or less hardwired directly into our DNA. It's probably the one trait that actually defines our species more than anything else.

Power corrupts.

Not really. Power frees.

Normal people spend their entire lives shackled. Shackled by expectations, societal guilt, laws, religion, tradition, thousands of years of culture distilled down into decades of socialization. But the more money or power (which are somewhat interchangeable) you have, the more capable you become of ignoring or bypassing most of those social controls, until the "real" you eventually comes spilling out like 10lbs of shit in a 5lb bag.

The average human is basically a monkey in a suit. Power just strips away the suit.

You're not factoring basic morals into that.

But the freedom thing is a good point. It's the same thing when people are on the internet; there are no real consequences, so a great deal of people see it as a place to freely be a complete fuckwad. I never saw the appeal of doing that kind of thing personally; just because there are no consequences doesn't make it right.

You're not factoring basic morals into that.

You're assigning them more relative value than they actually have.

Most "morals" are just ingrained socialized behavior. It's the virtues and responsibilities we teach kids to prevent them from being feral animals, and most morality evolved over time as a sort of reciprocal altruism mechanic to allow larger groups of people to live in close proximity without killing each other. It's not our innate nature, as much as it is the necessary framework we've built up over thousands of years to prosper in SPITE of our innate nature.

And again, we believe in morality because we spend most of our early lives having it pounded into our heads, and then most of the rest of our lives having it reinforced by society as a whole. But the more capable you become of ignoring that reinforcement and escaping that initial conditioning, the more the real human being comes out.

And that human being is almost always an asshole.

As a species, most of our successes stem from the fact that we learned to lie to each other, and to believe in things that aren't concrete or even true in order to deny our basic nature. A gorilla never thinks about not being a gorilla or trying to define why a gorilla HAS to be separate and qualitatively different from all other animals, but humans do it as a matter of course, because we're ultimately ashamed of what we really are.

Thank you, Lex Luthor.

Hey, once they stopped writing him as a generic "evil scientist" or "evil capitalist", Luthor is right more often than not in the comics (there's a reason why they eventually had him join the Justice League).

Modern Luthor's entire premise is basically that his ideology isn't necessarily wrong, but it's marred by his own selfishness and ego, and ultimately undone by his willingness to resort to non-ethical means to accomplish his goals. What he says is RIGHT - what's wrong is WHY he says it, and how he acts on it.

And realistically, the only reason Luthor comes across as being wrong at all most of the time is because we the audience implicitly know that Superman is an incredibly unrealistic ultra-noble hero god that is clearly better than humans, and thus, is not subject to the same flaws or darker nature as humans. Luthor's fears about what Superman is capable of are groundless, because Superman is basically Space Jesus (or Space Moses, if you prefer the original metaphor). But put almost any other alien in that same position (especially one that ACTS LIKE A HUMAN), and Luthor's fears become more realistic.

If anything, that's part of why so many people hated Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. Because the Superman in those movies basically validates Luthor's usual arguments. Why WOULD you ever trust that Superman?

That means you realize it's true.

I didn't say that, and I don't agree with it.

There are animals, which are true to their instincts and are mostly incapable of higher thought processes, and machines that work purely on logic and have no concept of abstract ideas like compassion, justice or religion. And somewhere in between is humans, able to split the atom and traverse space yet confined to big hunks of meat.

We are capable of behaving like animals, and indeed do a lot of the time. But I don't think that's the true form of humanity; it's living by science and logic and abiding by codes of morals, ethics and other abstract concepts. Living on either extreme is less than ideal in a modern society, and I'd consider those to be not be human.

I prefer to have some callus on me feet. I like to walk outside barefoot a lot. at one time in my life I could step on a pine cone and it not hurt. not as bad as a ex friend of mine though, watched him take a potato peeler to his foot and not draw blood and he was digging in with the thing.

Many people will do whatever they feel they can get away with. Once you've climbed to the top, that becomes a lot more things, and worse things, typically. I'm glad those arrogant Hollywood fucks are cannibalizing each other. That place literally only represents itself while telling everybody "you're like us." It's always been stupid and now it's looking less true than ever.
