The games are less than 24 hours from coming out, and I wanted to get a topic set up for discussing the topics whenever you guys get your copy of the game. This is a place to not only discuss your progress of playing through the game, but also for setting up trades/battles online with other people from this board.

In about 9 days from today, there will be a Twitch Plays Pokemon Ultra Sun playthrough, but I'll set up a separate topic to discuss their playthrough of the game.

Looking at the coverage that has been posted, the availability of Solgaleo/Lunala between the 2 versions is exactly the same compared to Sun/Moon (it's not reversed like what happened with Black 2/White 2). This means if you had Sun, you would have to get Ultra Moon to get a Lunala.

So, what mons are we all planning to use? I just recently settled on my US team:

The Dragalge in the picture is a stand-in for Poipole/Naganadel, which I'm planning to get via pkhex save editing (its base stats are reasonable enough that acquiring a low-level one early on shouldn't be too gamebreaking, unlike the other UBs). I was originally planning to use a Spheal from Island Scan, but if I'm reading the textdumps right it might only be available with Surfing, so idk... maybe I could still swap it in later on, though.

Jangmo-o is kind of a bitch though. Takes so long to hatch and I want the Bulletproof one. (I also want a female one again so I can name it Norbert, but I'll probably won't go that far if it takes too long.)

Im getting Utlra Moon and thinking of using a bunch of pokemon I have always wanted to use but never managed to put on my teams before.

As of Pokmon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, this has been altered to have it so wild Pokmon will only call for help once unless you use an Adrenaline Orb.

I'm very happy about this.

The form is breedable, though, so even if you miss it, you can get someone to breed you a new one that will evolve into Dusk.

They fixed some stuff, but it's mostly 90% of the same game

I'll use Decidueye since I used the other two starters on playthroughs in Sun. Beyond that I have no idea beyond trying to use stuff I haven't used much before. I really want to use Alolan Marowak but it gets jack shit for level up moves unless Cubone can summon an underleveled one as reinforcements but that sounds like way too much work.

Once your Cubone evolves, you could trade it to someone, have them teach it Shadow Bone, and trade it back. And Flame Wheel I guess. Just saw that it won't learn a Fire move on its own for a long time too. Yikes.

I am close to finishing the first island and so far the new additions are great and all, more Pokemon variety is nice, some of them are great choices (Noibat, Hawlucha)
Alola looks better than before, it takes much less time to pick a starter (but getting to the first Pokecenter still takes the same amount of time)
Rotom boosts are also good

But I just can't shake off the disappointment of how much it's still Sun and Moon
Yes, it's a "third version", we didn't complain about Yellow Crystal Emerald and Platinum so why should we complain about this?

But I feel like there are three main differences-
1.The game is cutscene-heavy, which makes seeing the same scenes again much more painful than just going through the game again without cutscenes
It's just..the feelings of Deja-vu are much more obvious when you see it as a cutscene
2.It came out far too early
RS>E was 26 months
DP>P was 23 months
BW>BW2 was 19 months

Gen 3 and 4 had another set of games inbetween and BW2 were much different than BW, and even then it was 19 months instead of the 12 months we had to wait for USUM
(Yes you could argue Crystal came out much sooner after GS release but it was a different time then)
I spent around 300 hours on Sun, only finished with it half a year ago, so the game is still very fresh in my memory..revisiting it again so soon is stupid

3.We were spoiled with BW2
They were sequels, different starting town, some different gyms (and existing gym has different layouts) a lot of places looked different, Memory Link with BW1, expanding the region from "only Gen V" to include a ton of older Pokemon as well etc

They're catchable on route 3. Apparently you can get one in a trade on route 2 before your trial that has 31 IV attack. I imagine he'll be one of the main choices for speedrunners.

Was wrong about Noibat, didn't think he has such a low BST and doesn't learn Dragon type moves lol

But Hawlucha is super broken yeah, 500 BST Pokemon so early (for comprasion - Gengar, Alakazam, Vikavolt, Scizor, are also 500 BST)

This is the same game that gives you access to Salamence by route 3 though to be fair it likely takes over an hour to get.
