Not to complain too hard, but I wish they made encounters while surfing just a tad more frequent, even if it's on Lapras going fast.

I guess "too much water" is to blame
The encounter rate in the water is very, very, very low
Which might be good for Hoenn but not for this game (how much of the playtime we spend on water? 2%?)

In terms of places we have to go, probably even less. The water trial prevents wild Pokemon from showing up and I can only think of one route where you have to surf in order to progress the game.

Everything else is optional, which means I'm looking for Pokemon, among other things.

I haven't played the game that much since its release. I only have about 6 hours of actual playrate in the game and just recently got to the second island. Nearly 6 hours to reach the second island was partly because I spent time catching some Pokemon, including time spent trying to hunt for Pikachu through SOS Battles.

Current team so far.

Only Dartrix, Rockruff, and Pikachu are actually permanent members. The other 3 are just temporary holdovers until they can be replaced with permanent members.

I am currently revisiting the islands, got to the second one

Must give credits to the various events there are in this game
Almost every location has a new event and it's nice

It's a shame though that I don't really like the setting of Alola, and seeing how the animations for all the models is exactly the same is even more obvious here and it hurts

I wish there was some kind of event log to see which ones I've completed/what I need to do. A lot of them have a "come by tomorrow" or "show me this thing you don't have yet" part that I forget about returning to.

I may do them when I finish the game...

I remember from SM that there were quite a number of "show me this Pokemon" quests. So what I did when playing USUM was keep a list of all the quests that an NPC wanted me to do that I couldn't do yet. This turned out to be a really good idea because there were way more quests this time around.

USUM Pokedex halfway complete

Is anyone else doing this? catching Pokemon that are available natively instead of transfering?
I can complete it in a second with my Living Dex but where is the fun in that

I always did it, even getting Steelix and Politoed in BW2 (5% encounter in rustling dust/water)

But here it might prove a problem...with Gengar
1% encounter in SOS is not a thing someone want to waste time on...

On a Krookorok while looking for Castform (ugliest shiny ever)
And one Alolan Vulpix while trying to level up Crabrawler to evolve

If it wasn't for the "shiny sound" I wouldn't know, it looks EXACTLY the same

I largely work on the Pokedex from scratch each game. But I actually go out of my way to evolve lower evolutions rather than catch their evolutions when possible.

I soft reset the ambush encounter until I get Chansey. They aren't too rare so it's not bad.

I lead with a Marowak that know False Swipe to knock the first Chansey down to 1HP. If it summons a second Chansey, I just knock it out. If it summons Blissey, I switch for a Pokemon with Thief and try to steal a Lucky Egg before switching back. If you a super unlucky, Blissey will have a Lucky Egg and Fling it at you on the switch but this never happened to me.

Once Chansey is at 1HP, I switched to Compound Eyes Butterfree with Acrobatics, Thief and Sleep Powder. I use an X Attack so Thief OHKOs Blissey. I then use an Orb so Chansey starts summoning more Chansey and Blissey. I KO summoned Chansey with Acrobatics and KO Blissey with Thief. Sleep Power is there if a shiny Pokemon shows up. I use Leppa Berries to refill PP on Acrobatics.

I don't do anything special to keep the original Chaney alive. I just start a new encounter if it Struggles or if I get a Lucky Egg. I didn't think it was worth training multiple Thief Pokemon for this. Although, I kept my in game Alolan Muk with Thief on standby just in case.

I can agree 100% with this. The first one is a lot of fun, the latter isn't just an uninteresting new scene, it's a removal of an actually good scene from the originals

Well I tried it, not really working as Chansey heal itself and it's making it less likely to call for help (as long as the mechanics is the same as SM)

How are the Chansey healing each other? They can't target themselves with Heal Pulse and you should always be immediately KOing the summoned Chansey or Blissey. If you Attack power isn't high enough, you may need to use more X Attack or a higher level Pokemon.

In celebration of Team Rainbow Rocket, from January 20th to March 11th, you'll be able to get certain Pokmon based on the signature Pokmon of each of the Team Leaders. And..fuck, why are they doing that? how is someone supposed to figure it out without the Internet?
Yes there were similar things in the past like Piloswine Ancient Power but at least there were some hints for that (like other Pokemon evolving through Ancient Power when they learn it in their level up set)

Like, if it was a good Poison type attack, I would understand. If it was a Dragon type attack learned by level up, I would understand too. But to hide a Dragon type attack in it's learnset and require a Move Reminder for that without giving a single hint in the whole game..it's..pretty stupid, you know?
Poipole is a fucking pure Poison, teaching him Dragon Pulse without knowing what the evolution is is too much random
