I built my main one about four and a half years ago. It's not super old, but it's been pretty good to me and rarely shows signs of slowing down. I think when I got it I told myself I'd be happy to get five good years out of it, so I should be able to eclipse that mark easily.

I'm curious also what's the longest anybody has used one computer. For me, I think it was something like 13 years, but I didn't use it as my primary PC for all that time. Still, I think that's pretty impressive. It only got replaced in the middle of that time because it was just too outdated. Every computer I had since then had to be replaced because it broke.

Computers nowadays are so good relative to my level of usage that I can't imagine ever having to replace one for spec reasons. With my current one, a part of me wants to see how long I can ride it out, but a part of me also wants to get something more compact.

7 years old with upgrades every now and then. More RAM, an updated GPU, and a SSD gave it a lot more life. It does everything I need it to. Though if I ever want to do VR I will probably need to build something new.

Older than time itself I think.
Nah it's a Dell Optiplex 780 that apparently came out in 2009 so about 8 years old. I bought it cheap when my old one died a year ago. It does what it needs to. I don't game on the PC anymore but used to. Mostly with The Sims games and now with Sims 4 and expansions coming to consoles I have even less reason to try and game on the PC at this point.

Oh, this is hilarious. By my calculations, it's... about 10 years old, maybe 11.

Do you know what it's like to download stuff and the freakin' installer won't run? Hell, Firefox was working fine... and then it auto-updated and I couldn't launch it anymore. So then I downloaded an old version and turned off auto-update.

Edit: This is my "backup" computer, btw. The one I was using several months ago never recovered after a vicious sudden thunderstorm. That one was about 9 years old and the hard drive was questionable anyway. But... it was better than this.

Most recent laptop? Maybe a year, two at most. Other (cheaper) laptop, about three years. Main laptop, four or five. Technically I really just use the first and last of those. The cheaper one has had some issues and, in all honesty, it's not so much needed right now.

About 2 and a half years old. The graphics card is from my previous rig, so it is about 4 years old. I could probably use an update there. For the most part though, unless the game is horribly optimized I can run most things maxed or close to it at 1080p 60 FPS.

The issue with mine was external damage =x Granted, I don't really use it for gaming so it's not like it's going to obsolete itself any time soon.

Depends on how you define it.

Defining it as a total build with all new parts, this computer is 10 years old.

Defining it as a motherboard, this computer is only 2.

I upgrade my computer regularly and reuse parts. That said, the only original parts remaining since my 2007 build are my case and keyboard. Upgrades that year that remain installed are my capture card (actually from 2005 and taken from an old PC) and memory card reader. Everything else either died or is no longer usable due to obsolescence.

Depends on what kind of money you're willing to spend. The only upgrade I make is buying a video card. Pretty much essential for gaming. Other than that, seems more economical to just buy a new PC when it becomes antiquated.

3 years at least - I bought a "new" PC made from used parts (from PC shop and PC service) in July 2014. Only the HDD is about year old, because it broke a few weeks before the warranty (yes, they gave a normal warranty on the PC. And yes, I want to throw it from the window from time to time, because it is awfully slow, but... I can not afford the throwing until I save some money for a new one :-)

Oh in answer to this 10 years. I'm one of those who will use a device for ages until I upgrade. I normally upgrade when something dies save for consoles. With those I upgrade when the latest games I want are all on new platforms.

My laptop is 4.5 years old. The durability is truly amazing. Since I have 3 (young) kids and 4 pets, it's been dropped multiple times from heights as high as 7 feet and gone through multiple drink spills with no issue. Still a nice machine but I'll need something new fairly soon.
