Regardless of the companys political dealings or the ownership's political affiliations, no business wants to deal with the social media horde on either side of the aisle. Its a colossal headache and bad for business. This might appear as if theyre taking sides, but I think this is just the way things are in the current political and social media climate.

I am surprised she got that close to it without being tackled

The President and some other high-ranking officials typically get a police detail to close the road theyre traveling to traffic, but I dont think they can do much for bicycles and pedestrians. Would take considerably more manpower, depending on the area.

Not surprising. If you do something that brings your company disrepute, they can and will shitcan you. It's kind of annoying to see that one of her directors got a very different treatment when talking on the other side of the political spectrum, but in terms of what happened to her I don't see anything particularly noteworthy here.

I'll be interested to see if the usual people on this board who usually speak out against right-wingers being fired for politically incorrect comments are as vocal in their defence of Ms. Briskman here.

Do any rightwingers complain about it? The closest you get is complaints about third-parties trying to *police* social media by harassing companies into firing employees (which is an objectively awful thing to do), but that's about as apples and oranges as you can get.

Thats not how at will employment works.

My state is at will, companies also end up paying people to stay home on a near constant basis due to improper terminations.

The only thing at will employment ensures is that the employer can terminate at will and not be blocked legally, it doesnt mean they dont face recourse for a breach of rules

Good job not knowing the law.

Most Pennsylvania employers think that at-will employment means they can terminate an unsatisfactory employee at any time, for any reason (or no reason at all!).

If only employment relationships were that simple.

While our state presumes all employment at will unless otherwise agreed upon by the business owner and employee, in reality, at-will employment has its caveats and limitations. For example:

It doesnt apply to terminations for illegal reasons such as retaliation.
It doesnt prevent former employees from filing wrongful termination claims.
You cant fire an employee for refusing to engage in an illegal activity, like stealing from customers or cooking the books.

http://www.berksandbeyond.com/2014/05/20/pottstown-employment-agencies-at-will-employment/

Point 1 and 2 are particularly relevant.

Hell, my first job out of high school lost just about every claim they had and had to pay people to sit on their ass at home or offer them their jobs back.
