probably Toad for a while up to Double Dash
then I dunno for Double Dash, probably switched it up a lot ROB / Waluigi for DS Funky Kong for Wii Lakitu / Shy Guy for 7 Ludwig for 8, although I'm not super consistent about that. I rotate.
Easy go-to is Yoshi. Always. Color variation in 8 is great for us. If not Yoshi, I pick from a pool of characters I consider to feel similar to Yoshi: Koopa/Para Troopa, Shy Guy, or Toad.
