By a final score of 21-14, Gregory House has defeated Baymax to be crowned king of the doctors! As predictable as this was, and as much as the typical feelings of indifference and frustration have set it around me in regards to this contest, I would like to thank those that participated nevertheless. Cool idea, definitely plenty of characters I can think of that fit the archetype.

For elaboration, my feelings are not towards the winner. I have no real thoughts, because I'm unfamiliar with him entirely but I feel as if I'd probably like him as a character based on what I know and what other people think. He was my predicted winner, by the way. I didn't want to outright "call it", but yeah. He was who I predicted to win from the start. My feelings root more from the typical atmosphere of this contest, specifically the nature of people "quitting" once their fave dies off and never moving on to another character, despite KotM's top 10s almost always being full of well known and popular characters. It's not something that happens in the major board contests, and I'm always bothered by KotM's unpopularity as I've said before. This one wasn't as big of a blowout as I thought perhaps, but it was the first I can recall not to reach a second page for the finals. It feels about 10 votes short of what it normally is, even just last contest. That annoys me, and I just don't know what to do about it. The answer is there is nothing I can really do, so I just have to live with it.

It's hard each time though.

Speaking personally, once you get to the top ten and everything you can possibly want to save gets eliminated, kotm has no incentive to keep on saving.

Like I said in the finals, I supported literally half of the top ten and they all went out 9-5. After that it was like... I don't want any of them to win.

It's why I started just saving random so you would at least get some votes. But I couldn't have cared if any of those top four won.

i didn't care about too many characters in this, but Tenma is one of my absolute favorite characters of any category. glad to see him get into one of these and do well. and House is a good winner, too.

Ive certainly avoided some KotMs where I havent had any faves represented. That, or I just dont care for the category. Regardless, its pretty tough to stay interested once my faves are gone.

Mercy was the last character I cared about, and thankfully she at least made the top 10. After that we were so close to the end I figured Id stick around - even if I always figured House would win. Pretty surprised Baymax went so far. I dont really get it.

Also the reason KotM isnt as popular as the others is its lack of save trading.

Ah well, glad to see John Watson made it so far, even if his quest to join Sherlock Holmes was for naught

I think it's more that kotm has never really done anything to foster a real community

not allowing trading does factor in to it since people tend to just pop in and save whenever and don't hang around

Thats a fair point. Like I said earlier, KotM is so varied that sometimes I wont care for the category and thus wont participate. Its hard to build a community off of so much variance.

I only quit once everyone I like is gone. I don't see a point in continuing to save characters I don't know or don't like. It's just something bound to happen in a contest with such a diverse field I think.

Also I wonder if any other people were supporting Hannibal based on the TV show and not the movies... To me, Mads Mikkelsen is Hannibal Lecter.

There are often a lot of characters I don't know, just because of the nature of the contest. Like, if you pick any 10 random Final Fantasy characters, I can probably rank them in order of preference (and will therefore always have a favorite remaining). If you pick 10 random spies/doctors/teachers, you are going to get a bunch of TV and movie characters that I've never seen, and games I may not have played. So, I always come in with at least a handful of favorites, but I tend to be a lot more apathetic past that point.

And I'm also a weirdo that cares about the how good of a doctor they are, so some minor doctor character in my niche show is not something I care to support anyway.

Oh yeah, towards the end I could've saved Harley in the round she went out, but I didn't even know she was a doctor, so saving her in a contest for doctors seemed weird. So I ignored her.

Yeah the problem is there's not really such a thing as a fan of "doctors" like there would be with Pokemon of Final Fantasy Characters. People bail out more in this contest just because of how the field works more than anything I think.

This was the first time where I did stop saving near the end once my favorites went out (Simon/Mercy/Zoidberg). All the remaining characters I was apathetic to or did not know, which has never happened for me before in one of these. It is bound to happen every now and then though, and I'll be back in full force for the next KotM.

I guess that's what kinda bothered me too. This KotM felt weaker, at times, than the previous one. I wasn't expecting that because there seemed to be more hype heading into this one. I could have let hour long Discord conversations sway my view on it I guess.
