saw on reddit some people are making Xon with 153 Pod their leads to help people with drops. guess that leaves me with 3 main possibilities:

- Ribbon Ace with 898 MAG (Malboro)
- Xon with 153 Pod (Story)
- A2 with 1000+ ATK (all purpose)

They haven't banhammered macro since we started last summer, and don't see why they would start now.

The other thing effects units that are difficult to properly chain using DW, and we won't know until early next year if we will get that as well.

honestly i'd consider macros more if i didn't figure i could use that extra EN in other places, like having COMPLETE on every story, exploration, or battle. there's scattered lapis all around my stuff that i really just gotta finish up.

So I'm going to start working on Trials that I've fallen behind on.

I did the Echidna Trial today and cleared it on my second attempt with 2/3 missions, and then went in on the third attempt and collected the last reward. I used Marie, Rikku, WoL, Tilith, and the best chaining DPS friend I had.

Now trying to do Ultros trial, and I've failed at it three times already. I feel like I am missing something rather important here. I'm either not doing enough damage and I lose members from Typhon snorting them out, or I am getting attritioned by the massive amount of damage going out and having to constantly raise people.


What 5 Staples should I be going for in the Ultros fight that I'm missing here?

Are you offense-breaking Ultros?

Do you use a wind-based attack on the turn Typhoon inhales?

Do you use the proper -bars/Marie?

Use a tank?

Do you focus on murdering Typhoon, and put up defenses for the tentacle rape that happens afterwards?

Edit: Sneaky bastard. Ramps up elemental resistance on VoE in the arena so I can barely hurt him. Very well. My Victoria twins will peel off each layer...

Wind attacks... Negative. That would make things easier. I had missed that aspect of the fight strategy.

I was thinking of taking one of Marie, Rikku, or Tilith out and replacing with Ace or Orlandeau so I had a bit more damage.

K, so still having issues.

My team is:
Warrior of Light
Rikku
Tilith
Marie
Friend DPS (used Fryevia on the last attempt)

Despite using Hyper Nullall and Love You All back and forth, keeping Attack and Magic Broken with Arms Eraser and Sonic Knuckles on Warrior of Light to clear the Deep Breath, I still just get destroyed.

Acid Rain keeps clearing buffs and does massive damage at the same time, so if any team member other than the DPS unit dies, I have to figure out how to raise them, fully heal the team, and still get Elemental resistances and mitigation up without falling behind.

I'm obviously still overlooking something or doing something wrong.

alright, i'll keep him in all my team setups. to minimize chances he's not the pick.
looking around, if i want him to break 900 MAG with a Ribbon, it's gonna be in the form of equipment TMRs. Timothy's hat is probably the most immediate one since he's at 30%, though honestly i'd favor Victoria's robe as the one i want.

uh... hm.
for that fight i died a few times. did use dual fryevia. i remember using the wiki for moves/setup:

bear in mind i took longer than 10 turns too so my fight got through the nasty 10 turn threshold. though you won't attack Ultros first, these three things matter a lot:

Every 3 turns: Acid Rain.
Every 6 turns: Aqua Breath.
Every 10 turns, if Typhon is still alive: Acid Rain.

Aqua Rain is not random. it wipes auto-revive so don't bother when that shows up. these matter for Typhod:

Every 4 turns: Typhon took a deep breath!, end turn. Snort.
(If damaged with wind attack (physical or magic) after taking a deep breath: Typhon's nose is itchy!, Big Sneeze, end turn.)
Every 10 turns, if Orthros is still alive: Toxic Rain.


basically be sure you've got the Survivor's Knife equipped to WoL so when you attack, wind element kicks in and you don't lose a guy.

i had WoL/Rikku/Tilith/Fryevia/Fryevia. i'm not sure you want to do the 5 man challenge immediately, you'll miss out on Toxic Rain your first time around but you'll get Rod Mastery, Hero's Shield, and a 10% Moogle for a second round through it. i just made sure WoL had his personal provoke on, broke, and Rikku/Tilith alternated between full revivals + Rikku's LB.



you could try using this reddit guide too that seems to use Setzer instead.

Worked like a charm... took me about 4 turns to finally get a decent timing down for chaining the FFBs on 2 Frys, but was able to clear the quest, get the Heroes Shield, Rod Mastery, and Toxic Rain. I need to do it one more time for the 10% Moogle, since I didn't have a single source of Libra lol.

I was surprised how many of my Fry friends have Ramuh as their Esper which was seriously no bueno for this. Finally found someone who rolls like me with Diablos ^_^.

Had WoL with Golem, Fry with Diabolos, Marie with Titan, and Tilith with Siren. After I started though, I realized I left out any form of Libra, but at least I can run 6 members on the next attempt for the Moogle.


Can't believe I dropped like 200 energy on that trial <_>.

Trials do that.
For the next trial up you want 2B or A2. Former is better than the latter since she can auto revive but both are optimal.

After that congrats, you're caught up and can struggle with Malboro or wait for the power creep. Not sure what I'll do myself there as I've got the main 5* needed for it and can probably work something with Rem or Zarga for it.

2) mine has dual Zyrus Rods
3) +30% MAG TMR (echidna's kiss) over Encore

i'm assuming you enhanced the ability about his LB. if you haven't, do so, the 2nd level gives him +40% MAG.

9S' is 54% fullbreak+10% if vulnerable to disease. (Tim's is 59% and is hightideded by comparison.)

You are trading hightide and single effect debuffs for bulk. So if you slap Aigaion's Arm on him you will see it more often if you don't entrust him.


As a general rule of thumb for me if a unit doesn't have hightide, I don't spend LB pots on it unless it got a desirable effect like 2B's 1090% 10 hit modifier. ( And I want Hunter Fina's 640% AoE 10 Hit Earth Physical Attack & AoE 3 Turn -84% DEF Debuff, dammit..... ;_; )

My understanding is that Xon is the only one useful for the story events to up Cryst drops, and that Locke and Pod 153 are not. Do the people here agree? And if so, is it worth raising up the two Locke's I have?

It's an old debate that haven't been settled.

Just use Xon if you are not over flowing with gigantiska.
