Super Mario RPG. I have it sitting in my Wii VC, but I feel that it's mechanically inferior to Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi RPG series.

Also, I hate sewer levels so I quit that as soon as I got to it.

Was it because it was rushed to meet the 15th anniversary of the Tales series, and felt like an incomplete game?

I'd say Mass Effect: Andromeda, but I went into that expecting it to be a shitshow so "disappointed" isn't quite the right term.

Might be Destiny. I wanted to like it, but it lost me so hard it's actually killed my interest in other only tangentially related games by proxy.

Skyward Sword: Went from first Zelda game I ever pre-ordered (though usually I don't own the console when the Zelda game comes out and can't) to having to struggle to push myself to finish.

FF Tactics A2: I never had GBA so I skipped FFTA, but loved FFT on PS1. Played for like an hour...wtf is this shit? Still haven't gone back to it, it was just...so terrible.

Suikoden Tierkries: I knew it would be vastly inferior to Suikoden 1-5 going in, and still felt let down. :(

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 (for PS3): I loved Red Alert Retalliation on PS1 and mostly enjoyed RA2 on computer. Heard about the DRM on the computer version of RA3 so I got the console version, and....my god. That damn "radial menu" is so awful, borderline unplayable! How is it that on PS1 they made the controls fluid but modern day they can't?! (real answer: Westwood Studios is no more :( ) And units are all hard-counters to one specific other unit type, but you can't deftly assign unit hotkeys like on a computer, so all you can do is cluster different stuff together and hope for the best. How did they mess things up so badly?

There have been so many that I can't pinpoint it. Recently, it's definitely Agents of Mayhem. Thank fucking god for Conan Exiles. Between AoM dropping the ball and XCOM 2's add-on being delayed a couple of weeks, it has totally reinvigorated my gaming spirits (which were dead at the moment due to the summer drought and the above incidents). We have two Xbox Ones, and my wife got hooked on Conan too, so it's still in preview but we've bought two copies... The patch went live a few hours ago and fixed the crashing, stalling, items not appearing/working in-hand, the infinite loading during some startups, and other headaches. It felt like a janky (but fun) alpha before, but it's legitimately worth money now.

I'm also going to have to say Diablo 3. I was sooo hyped going into it and stayed up for the launch even though I had to be at work for 7. I finally was able to get through the errors at about 2:30 and even after that debacle was cleared up the lore throughout the game was pretty bad compared to d2 and the pvp in the game was pretty limited and non existent for quite a while. It wasn't a terrible game but it sure didn't fill d2s boots. Shame d2 is such a dead game now or I'd still be on there.

I didn't like it because I was expecting something like ogre battle or final fantasy tactics with a good overarching story. instead i got something that was purely about taking over territory and winning. i didn't do my research and didn't know it was a romance of the three kingdoms style game. Just disappointed? Let's see...

- FFXII (sorely)
- inFamous: Second Son (at least a little)
- Star Ocean 3 (til the end of my patience)
- Star Ocean 4 (proving that Tri-Ace doesn't care as much about the series any more)
- Agetec's handling of "Wild Arms Alter Code F" (a game that should have been localized by another company, one that does RPGs instead of a series about fighting military mechs)
- FFXIII and FFXIII-2 (too many issues getting in the way of enjoyment)
- WoW: Warlords of Draenor and Legion (as you can tell by then how much Activision has put a strain on Blizzard)
- Champions Online (failing to meet expectations, Cryptic not sticking to their best ideas, the little content available at the time being so unfun)
- Metroid Other M (You know why)
- Tales of Snoozendia... let me try that again. Tales of Le-zzzZZZzzzZZZ... er "Tranquilizer of Legendia." You know what? I'll let you figure this one out. <_<

The radial menu was actually pretty innovative for its time.

It was first introduced in Command & Conquer 3 Kane's Wrath for the Xbox 360 and its control scheme has been the standard for console RTS games ever since which includes games such as Halo Wars and its sequel.

I like the console controls and I've been a fan of RTS games since I played Red Alert 1 on PC as a kid.

I'm not saying you're wrong, everyone has their own tastes in videogames.
I just wanted to say my two cents.

Anyway, my most dissapointing game is Bionicle The Game for Gamecube.

MGSV: Phantom Pain.

An experiment in open world mechanics in the form of a series grand finale which had established itself as a linear, story driven franchise, which proceeded to offer an uneven and terribly paced narrative with limited dialogue to make way for padded repeat missions on maps with 70% empty and useless landscapes and an unfinished ending that messes with established lore and character relationships all for the sake of being "meta".

Metal Gear Solid is my favorite game series so for it to end like this, the disappointed was indescribable. They clearly had no clue about how to do open world effectively and should have finished the series off doing what they knew best. No amount of gameplay options can save the flaws this game has as a series finale. The shit that went down behind the scenes is no surprise with what they were producing.

How about anything Final Fantasy related released in the past decade, with specific mention of Final Fantasy XV being the creme de la crap. I suffered through the entire 13 trilogy, 14, Explorers, World of Final Fantasy, and Type 0 for the better part of a decade, hoping the 10-year wait for 15 would be worthwhile. Now I've lost faith in Squeenix entirely, and will no longer be purchasing their games brand new on day one. Fervent fan for years, but I've been burned one too many times.

Probably Ico. I spent like 3 years looking for the game, eventually found it in a Sears bargain bin of all things. It then spent a year in the glove compartment of my car, and another 6 months on my shelf before I finally opened it and played it. Then I found out the game is basically only 4 hours long and has 0 replay value. If I had just left it unopened, I could have sold it for upwards of 90 dollars, now it isn't even worth 10 because I was curious enough to open it and play it.

I just wanted to say my two cents.

I went from PS1 for the first RA to PC for the 2nd, and only really play the RA branch of C&C much, so it was my first experience w/ the radial menu. And I really did find it terrible. Couldn't keep playing it was so bad, wish there was an option to move around a mouse cursor w/ the stick and have sidebars like in the old games. Not as precise as using a mouse, but it worked fine.
Seriously, if you're going to have a radial menu, why in the fuck would you force the player to keep holding down the R2 button, lest they let go of the pressure for a moment and then get kicked out of the whole menu? Why not be a toggle on/off with one press each?
And then, as you're trying to lean the stick in a direction towards a specific thing on the circle...and then trying again as you go to the thing to the side of it instead....why must you hold down on that direction to reach said item and keep holding until you select it or else be shunted back to "center"?!
If it's going to be a circular menu, just let me rotate the stick around and move the selector accordingly through each option. If I stop rotating, just leave it on the thing it was on. Why is that so hard?!
The fucking radial menu felt like it was designed to torment the player. Not even in skyward sword did I feel like I was fighting against the game's own controls so much. That's just not acceptable to me.

I'm glad someone enjoyed it, not saying you're wrong either. But holy shit did I hate it!
Not even getting into how clumsy and irritating the unit selection and giving commands was, this has already become a rant. But maybe next time...they should consider using different buttons for selecting units and action commands. Just maybe...

Legendary: The Box. It looked and sounded to have tremendous promise but, when it got close to release, the reviews came in and totally panned it. I bought it anyway (hype) and every criticism was warranted. The game overpromised and undelivered on everything, right down to the number of enemies. I barely played it as a result.

Not sure anything has been as colossally disappointing, although GTA4 was a letdown.

Yeah I see what you mean.
More options would've been nice to have. Even small ones like being able to switch between holding down the button or pushing once to open the radial menu.

My first console RTS experience was Command & Conquer on the N64.
You moved the cursor with the control stick and pushed a button to open the sidebar.
Sure it wasn't as precise as on PC but it was really simple and it worked well enough.
