I mean, in the episode there is literally a Dothraki who jumps off his horse behind the wall and starts cutting dudes.

After the shield wall is compromised. Even if one can do this here and there it changes nothing to the outcome.

The only real argument that the dothraki would win is if you would argue their tactics would be different if they did not have dragons in their strategy.

I don't like the Trial of the Seven idea. I mean, I do kind of like it in theory, but I really don't think the show would ever go for it. They've consistently undermined the magic/ritual element of things.

I think here we can assume you give the most qualified person the blade.

Jon - Longclaw
Jorah - Widow's Wail (via Jaime)
Arya - Catspaw's Dagger
Brienne - Oathkeeper
Sandor Clegane - Heartsbane (via Sam)

I think that might be all that we've been shown so far in the show?

I would say Jorah gets Longclaw back, Jaime keeps Widow's Wail, and Jon gets Dawn somehow (AKA Lightbringer...because what brings light? Dawn.)

That feels like it would be the whole point. It's a dragon attack backed by vicious light cavalry. I don't think Dany or Tyrion or anyone involved would have suggested the Dothraki come to Westeros only to open-field charge into the Lannisters like that.

still i feel like its not a coincidence that jon was born like the exact second arthur dayne died 100 feet away. that has to mean something.

the wiki makes it sound like it has similar properties despite not being VS:

The blade is as pale as milkglass,[1] unlike dark Valyrian steel, but is similar in strength and sharpness.[6] Unlike other houses who have ancestral swords, House Dayne does not pass its sword from lord to heir. Only a knight of House Dayne who is deemed worthy can wield Dawn, and the Sword of the Morning is envied throughout the Seven Kingdoms.[6]

everything about that makes me believe dawn is Lightbringer. the name, the fact that you need to be deemed worthy to carry it, etc. jon not being of house dayne complicates things...unless all the r+l=j theories are wrong and ned knocked up ashara.

it's not VS but it clearly is a sword with a lot of mythology behind it, which in *my* opinion means it should be able to fight the white walkers

good point about jon being born when ser arthur died

i think putting too much stock into the prophecies (azor ahai, for instance) is a mistake, especially in the show. some fans theorize lightbringer isn't a sword but a person.

only tangentially related, the valonqar prophecy was hilariously un-subtle in AFFC and is one of the worst narrative devices from GRRM.

tbh, i'm just circle-jerking about dawn right now, and a lot of it is just fantasy fans being fantasy fans - the sword is mentioned a few times as being a super-badass sword (the wielder of it is known as the 'sword of the morning').

arthur dayne is stated by ned in bran's memory to have been the finest knight he ever knew. after the tower of joy, ned returns ser arthur's sword to starfall, where it sits with his family.

there's also the fact that dawn appears in one of the most legendary book passages. we've never seen the actual fight at the tower of joy (nor ned actually explicitly finding lyanna's baby), but we see the pre-fight showdown in ned's dream in book 1, and it's really beautifully written.

https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/6613029-i-looked-for-you-on-the-trident-ned-said-to

(note that the 'wraiths' are ned's bannermen, most of whom get slaughtered - they're referred to as wraiths because they're shadowy in his fever dream)

hnnnng, just reading that description

He unsheathed Dawn and held it with both hands. The blade was pale as milkglass, alive with light.

A lot of the love from Ser Arthur also comes from Jaime, I think. His internal monologue is extremely concerned with the meaning of knighthood and honor, and he constantly thinks of how he looked up to Arthur Dayne.

Can kill WhiteWalkers, are extraordinarily light for their size which makes them the wielder have tremendous advantage with them, and are super rare as cannot be produced anymore.

S1 Jaime wanted that duel so he could kill Ned without anyone complaining, S7 Jaime is concerned about crazy barbarians invading the kingdom. Also he's undergone significant character development since then.

So noob question but what exactly are the 7 kingdoms? I keep doing it and I end up with like 8 or 9

The crownlands (KL)
Westerlands (where the Rock is)
Reach
Vale
Dorne
North
Iron Islands
Stormlands
Riverlands

The only ones I'm definitely sure of are North, Iron Islands, Dorne. And maybe the Reach. I don't know which of the rest are or aren't.
