Idk guys... the booking is awful and certainly the worst culprit, but are y'all really saying that the content of his promos are good? Windham Rotunda is a good performer but Bray Wyatt is honestly not a good character anymore.

I differentiate between the character and what is put in the character's mouth. I've seen Bray Wyatt done right; I know he has the potential. It's different for me to say Bray Wyatt is bad; WWE is bad.

I feel like his promo style is too intense or something like that for him to be a week to week performer.

Bray Wyatt has always been a bad character IMO.

1. It comes off as super phony.
2. There's pretty much never any actual substance.
3. Laughing is not a catchphrase.

Would it have been better if he wasn't Husky Harris first. Maybe-- it'd help with #1 a bit-- but I don't think that's nearly all of it.

I don't know, I just find it funny that your solution to the WWE's lack of starpower that they created in large part due to refusing for years to let anyone other than Cena (and Orton and Batista to a lesser extent) look like a top guy is to make sure that only Cena and a couple others get to look like top guys.

The problem is that they didn't gauge when to stop stepping on the gas properly.

Booking Cena and Orton and Batista like that didn't create a void. Refusing to book anyone else like them once they were established names (aside from maybe Edge) was the problem.

If you book Cena and Orton and Batista like Seth Rollins you have no Cena today and you don't magically get stars either. That should be clear. Cena hasn't been utterly dominant in a long time and we still have no stars.

I disagree that he comes off as phony. His results prove many of his words as being hollow, but it doesn't come across like an actor playing a role. I believe the character.

Harper and Rowan were scary just by sheer look. Bray's creepy and charismatic, which is much different.

EDIT: Like, part of Bray's whole thing was that he kept the scary ones in check unless you crossed him.

Like that Rumble where Boogeyman and Bray had a creep off made it so clear that Bray was punching way above his acting skills with the role he was in imo. I could never take him remotely seriously at being creepy again after that.

On the flip side, if anyone has to have beaten Styles to be a credible threat to build to beating Styles, then you either have an extremely linear route to take to get to the point where you can beat Styles, or Styles has been beaten by enough that beating him has no real value.

I mean if Owens is considered to be on the level of Styles, why is Styles the one to build up to to beat in the first place, and why do you need to beat Styles if you've already beaten Owens.

Basically if you try to make everyone a star no one is is what I'm getting at. I'd rather have predictable booking than 'unpredictable' booking (which usually ends up predictable amusingly enough by reading the ebb and flow of the storyline) where everyone can beat everyone and the wins don't matter.

A better way to do it if your goal was to actually get Owens over was to do it this way

- Owens dominates a feud with someone who has previously been game. Ideally this is Zayn but really it can be anyone even remotely credible.

- Owens challenges Styles in a way that we the audience know is him being too big for his britches.

- He loses but to everyones surprise he was really game. He can even retain his title in a way that makes it clear he lost - he runs off and gets counted out or Styles knocks him out outside the ring and cant get him back in the ring in time something like that.

- Styles continues to pursue the feud for babyface reasons - hes not satisfied letting it end that way.

- Owens spends the build getting into Styles head and steals a cheap win via some method of cheating

- Styles is incensed and wins the blowoff in a grudge style but it is clear it took styles everything he had and more to put Owens away.

Bam instant credibility for Owens.

Its really not hard but WWE doesny have the discipline for a build like this anymore. You cant just skip to the part where its 50/50 that makes styles look like a fraud

It really isn't nonsense though. I don't think I've ever listened to or seen a Bray promo and not understood his point.

But this is a complaint I see so often that maybe he should just try and be more straightforward to connect more.

Original Boogeyman wasn't creepier than Bray but ECW Boogeyman frothing at the mouth with the weird eyes crushed him. He was absolutely creepier than Bray and it's not close. Mostly because Bray really isn't creepy at all. Boogeyman with a different presentation (which he sorta had in ECW I believe) could be.
