As in getting your pay in the form of a check that you have to cash in at a bank? Is this still the main way of paying wages or is it a thing of the past?

Mostly we are just all slaves here at this point.

Supposedly like 50% of the population has money automatically deposited into their account, then automatically taken out for rent/bills, and has pretty much nothing left afterwards.

I can choose to have a check mailed to me, but why would you not want direct deposit? My first internship paid my first paycheck with an actual check.

My first check they said had to be physical. But all the ones after that were through my direct deposit.

As for taking it to the bank I just took a photo of it and had it deposited immediately from my phone.

I refuse to use direct deposit for anything, and still pay all my bills by check.

I am the dinosaur. Also, get off my damn lawn.

My job doesn't offer direct deposit, so I still get a check.

It makes sense that most people can get their pay with direct deposits. Kind of weird and archaic that not everyone can.

Some jobs just can't, my job involves going to peoples houses, doing manual labor and getting paid directly by the people I'm doing the job for.

Not sure how reliable it is but...

https://myhrprofessionals.com/2013/09/25/96-percent-of-americans-paid-electronically-via-direct-deposit/
96 percent of Americans paid electronically via direct deposit

Which isn't surprising when you consider that most people are employed by corporations, big businesses, public institutions, etc... as well as the fact that there's no way of knowing who's paid under the table.

Not really. If you work for a small business, they might not be willing to pay the processing fees associated with a lot of those programs.

If you want to talk about weird payment methods, I freelance on the side and had a client who offered to pay me via paypal, which I refused because I'm not sure how much paypal takes (and I get cashback when I use my credit card through paypal as well). It was a local business, which made the offer all the more "Huh?"

I personally prefer to write checks for bills rather than use electronic payment. If something goes wrong you have hundreds of years of protections in place vs only short time by comparison for electronic forms of payment.

I get an electronic "pay stub" from job #1 and the actual money is deposited into my bank

I get a physical pay stub from job #2 and the actual money is deposited into my bank

The rare occasions when a corporation wants to pay me with a physical check for job #1 I just take a pic of it and it's deposited into my bank

My job doesn't even have direct deposit yet because they're only just now starting to break out of the stone age, so yeah, I still get physical checks.

Once I switched from blue collar jobs to white collar jobs, everything became auto-deposit. I could get a physical paycheck that I need to deposit but...why? Let the company and my bank deal with it and I'll just check my account to make sure my money is there.

I do payroll at my work and we only issue cheques. Don't think it's going to change any time soon.
