All Americans deserve the opportunity to pursue their American dream free from discrimination. Clear nondiscrimination policies ensure all employees have the chance to succeed based solely on their merits. These policies are vital to creating an inclusive, innovative, and competitive workforce.

Our most urgent task as a Party is to restore the American people’s faith in their government by electing a president who will enforce duly enacted laws, honor constitutional limits on executive authority, and return credibility to the Oval Office. We need a Republican president who will end abuses of power by departments and agencies, like the IRS and the EPA, and by the White House itself. Safeguarding our liberties requires a president who will respect the Constitution’s separation of powers, including the authority of Congress to write legislation and define agency authority. Americans also deserve a president who will speak for our nation’s history and values, not apologize for them to our enemies.

I did just find one REALLY genuinely interesting nugget in there I'd like our resident political scholars to weigh in on:

The Republican Platform asserts that the First Amendment can never be altered by a later Amendment. Not just that it SHOULDN'T ever be altered, but that it literally CANNOT be, because it's so naturally self-evident.

Is that a common belief?

The survival of the internet as we know it is at risk. Its gravest peril originates in the White House, the current occupant of which has launched a campaign, both at home and internationally, to subjugate it to agents of government. The President ordered the chair of the supposedly independent Federal Communications Commission to impose upon the internet rules devised in the 1930s for the telephone monopoly. He has unilaterally announced America’s abandonment of
the international internet by
surrendering U.S. control of
the root zone of web names
and addresses. He threw the
internet to the wolves, and they
— Russia, China, Iran, and others
— are ready to devour it.

Someone took their writing prompt and ran with it.

EDIT:

The internet's free market needs to be free and open to all ideas and competition without the government or service providers picking winners and losers.

Uhhhh, about that...

Ugh, lots of stuff about how we shouldn't be living together before marriage and about how people on welfare just need to get a job.

It is also why everyone should be concerned about the state of the American family today, not because of ideology or doctrine, but because of the overwhelming evidence of experience, social science, and common sense. All of which give us these truths about traditional marriage: Children raised in a two-parent household tend to be physically and emotionally healthier, more likely to do well in school, less likely to use drugs and alcohol, engage in crime or become pregnant outside of marriage. We oppose policies and laws that create a financial incentive for or encourage cohabitation.

This is the progressive pathology: Keeping people dependent so that government can redistribute income. The result is 45.8 million people on food stamps and 77 million on Medicaid, plus another 5.7 million in the Children’s Health Insurance Program. This is the false compassion of the status quo. We propose instead the dynamic compassion of work requirements in a growing economy, where opportunity takes the place of a hand-out, where true self-esteem can grow from the satisfaction of a job well done.

Or else you'll...stop giving those children health care??

Okay I made it 2/3rds of the way through. I'm done for the night. I leave you on this terrifying passage:

We renew our call for replacing “family planning” programs for teens with sexual risk avoidance education that sets abstinence until marriage as the responsible and respected standard of behavior. That approach — the only one always effective against premarital pregnancy and sexually-transmitted disease — empowers teens to achieve optimal health outcomes. We oppose school-based clinics that provide referral or counseling for abortion and contraception and believe that federal funds should not be used in mandatory or universal mental health, psychiatric, or socio-emotional screening programs.

So is it your belief that there is a sizable portion of parents whose children receive federal health care benefits who COULD be working, but aren't?

EDIT: I feel like if you're claiming that it's spin, you should at least be able to offer an alternative interpretation. "Their parents should get jobs" is not a realistic interpretation, particularly when the election was just decided in large part because of disappearing jobs.

To add on to this, not only do an increasing number of jobs not provide health insurance, but the new bill is getting rid of the requirement that employers offer it at all. While I think the fact that health insurance being tied to employers is idiocy of the highest order, scratching that fact here will screw people over.

Re: the Travel Ban ruling, I think there are two questions that will affect the outcome:

Does the executive branch have unilateral power to decide immigration policy? If the answer historically is no, then I think you could see the conservatives rule against Trump and have a 9-0 majority.

Does the Travel Ban unfairly target peoples based on their religion? I think the conservative justices will decide that the answer to this one is no, so assuming the former question is affirmative, then this goes to a 5-4 or 4-5 split.

There's a guy (IIRC he's a friend of Comey's, I think he's a reporter) who has a pattern of tweeting out hints before some of the most major revelations/stories. He did so on Friday with the note that it could be either then or today. And I think he reiterated it today, noting that the tweetstorm was "interesting."

I don't know the answer to your technical/legal question off the top of my head and am too lazy to research it. However, I have a hard time seeing Roberts, Kennedy, and the left wing supporting the ban under any circumstance. So I think at worst it's 6-3 against the ban. Otherwise, I kind of see your reasoning there in the sense that I think it's the difference between an easy 9-0 decision and a "You know, I'm honestly not entirely sure what the other 3 say here"

I don't really buy the "unfairly discriminates against Muslims" argument as a reason for unconstitutionality. However, I could see a fairly good argument that the Executive Branch does not have the power to make a unilateral immigration decision on that scale (though I really don't have the historical context).
