I did just find one REALLY genuinely interesting nugget in there I'd like our resident political scholars to weigh in on:

The Republican Platform asserts that the First Amendment can never be altered by a later Amendment. Not just that it SHOULDN'T ever be altered, but that it literally CANNOT be, because it's so naturally self-evident.

To add on to this, not only do an increasing number of jobs not provide health insurance, but the new bill is getting rid of the requirement that employers offer it at all. While I think the fact that health insurance being tied to employers is idiocy of the highest order, scratching that fact here will screw people over.

Re: the Travel Ban ruling, I think there are two questions that will affect the outcome:

Does the executive branch have unilateral power to decide immigration policy? If the answer historically is no, then I think you could see the conservatives rule against Trump and have a 9-0 majority.

Does the Travel Ban unfairly target peoples based on their religion? I think the conservative justices will decide that the answer to this one is no, so assuming the former question is affirmative, then this goes to a 5-4 or 4-5 split.

There's a guy (IIRC he's a friend of Comey's, I think he's a reporter) who has a pattern of tweeting out hints before some of the most major revelations/stories. He did so on Friday with the note that it could be either then or today. And I think he reiterated it today, noting that the tweetstorm was "interesting."

I don't really buy the "unfairly discriminates against Muslims" argument as a reason for unconstitutionality.
