i think i could have come up with hezonja, gordon, vuc, payton, and fournier. i could have gotten ross and biyombo by deduction if i thought about who they traded ibaka for, i guess. had no clue that dudes like augustin and watson were rotting away there.

no offense.

my fourth would have been Isaac. Orlando is the team I know the least about, probably.

Dirk is on the wrong side of 40. No one is going to pay him big money and his image of being Mr Dallas is worth more than any meager pay raise at this point.

Dirk will never leave Dallas, but Cuban hasn't really done anything with all the extra money he's gotten from the discounts he's taken the last several years. If the Mavs are going to be bad anyway, might as well give him a little extra for his service.

Ha, they already changed the magic over under to 36.5 shortly after the local radio station here hit the air and has torn it to shreds.

Slightly more realistic but I'd personally have pegged it at like 33.

I've always been on board with the Cousons trade and even said at the time that it was a good move. the shame of it was not getting more but I'll take Hield over a bad Oladipo contract!

Kings are all about the young guys now. they're like Orlando west but with more interesting pickups.

Yeah, I would have bet a small fortune on it if it was still available by the time I got home. I'd say 40.5 wins is the ceiling rather than middle. I can see an argument for making a small to decent improvement but 29 > 41 is huge.

Things we have going for us:

1. Rest of East has largely regressed
2. No major losses (Jodie Meeks is the only player we lost)
3. No major changes in roster. which hadn't been true last few years. Also second year under Vogel for entire line-up except Rookies and Ross so might be better suited to his system (Ross acquired at trade deadline so still benefits)
4. Looked a hell of a lot better post all-star break last year. Also suffered a lot of 4th quarter collapses which may have been mental or may have been deliberate tanking
5. Contract year for quite a few key players (Qualifying offers for Gordon, Payton. Team option for Hezonja). Some key players also hitting that 4th year as a pro where taking a step forward isn't uncommon
6. New management so might be better organised behind closed doors, more eagerness to play well (plus Hennigan likely had little respect)
7. G-league team relocated to Lakeland (45 mins away) rather than Eerie so fringe players can more easily get minutes

But I mean that's also a lot of grasping and might be grounds for like a 5-7 game win jump with the same players. Not a 12 game jump.

BTW, little secret but Marcus Morris is kind of a cancer.

Last year he:
A) Told a reporter that players don't defend as hard if they're not getting the ball enough.
B) Held a "players only" meeting where he basically chewed out Reggie Jackson and then the team followed that up with a 30-40 point loss where Stan Van Gundy literally said "players meeting, my ass" to reporters.

Like I have my issues with Reggie and I could imagine not exactly wanting to play with him but fuck off with that shit, Morris.

You got a PF that averaged less rebounds than Avery Bradley. Of course, Morris played SF for us but he's generally not a good rebounder.

Dirk has a big Uncle Scrooge Money Bin pile of cash and having a little more to be on the Rockets for two years really doesn't mean anything to him. He has an MVP and a ring and the only thing left is the 20 year mark. His $245 million career salary could have been like 250-260 instead. They make so much this past decade that they can leave a LOT of money on the table and still be crazy rich.

I don't really see the benefit of Morris - depth as an undersized 4?

that's actually even worse, we got the less talented of the two brothers

yup, and other GMs knew this and were using it to be cheap with Boston, so it would have been nearly impossible to get good value on a trade because the other GMs knew they were desperate to move someone to sign Hayward.

I still think they got a better deal than the Pacers got for George
