BTW, the entire Detroit offseason is probably gonna be decided by the Brooklyn fucking Nets, who are poised to offer KCP a $20+ million a year contract.

Either the Pistons match, putting them dangerously close to the luxury tax threshold and largely returning a 37 win team.

Or they don't, and they're stuck using the $8.5 million MLE to try and replace him with guys like Ben McLemore or CJ Miles.

Still, he's spent more money on the luxury tax the last two years than any team has ever spent in a two year period, I believe (the Nets are the only ones close), and there's not really anything about Carmelo's game that the Cavs can use against the Warriors, and certainly not at $54m + further luxury tax hit over the next two seasons

you can't trade carmelo for nothing according to CBA rules, IIRC. salary needs to match, and i don't see how you do that without giving up a major piece like thompson or love.

yeah Love would clearly be part of a deal.

that would probably be an upgrade? it's hard to say. Love doesn't really fit with them at all while Carmelo can slash. then again, they need 3 point shooters and Carmelo isn't exactly that.

I think you could rescue Carmelo and get a 25-27ppg scorer though. he hasn't fallen off athletically or anything. he's just had an awful situation.

I started wondering last night who would turn down Harden for Carmelo + Porzingis. I'm sure the numbers don't fit but they could if they needed it to.

i think morey says no, he absolutely loves harden and he is in his prime. porzingis is a question mark and melo is past his prime and plays in an older style, even if he's still an elite scorer when he needs to be
