There's no certainty that they'll get it right, but as long as she's not a whiny pain in the ass and more of a femshep type, we'll be golden. As a general rule, they should treat it like any other character and just have a female voice and model. There should never be any discernible difference between a male and female lead.

I wouldn't care, I think the main reason they don't do it is because society probably finds a women being a total dick to everyone around them less palatable than a guy doing it.

You have games like Tomb Raider (reboot) where Lara is probably the most violent and accomplished mass murderer of everyone in the game, and became that way over the shortest period, but it's always portrayed as "self defense" and "she had no choice".

In GTA you're a dick for fun and self benefit.

That's all well and good in a futuristic post-prejudice sci-fi world or a fantasy game, but this franchise is neither. There are differences between men and women in regards to how they act and are treated by other people and treated by society in general whether you want to acknowledge them or not. Unless Rockstar wants to pretend that sexism, wanton objectification, and behavioral differences don't exist anymore, these issues will have to be addressed throughout the whole game.

i don't really care, but I think compared to Saints Row, GTA has done a more realistic approach to gangster life and I don't think women are treated with as much respect as men in that culture. The game would probably be themed around how the main character addresses it.

i want the gender of the protagonist in media to stop being a thing that matters and for creators to feel like they can do what they want.

If I want to play a story I come up with I'll load up a different game and do so.

Ideally I'd like to see them just go back to one protagonist and it be a male. If they keep on the path of multiple characters I have no problem with one of them being a female. If they make her lame as shit like Trevor, you just don't play that character unless you have to for a mission.

I didn't include an indifference option because a majority would use it unless they strongly feel a certain way. It would skew the results. If you are truly indifferent, just don't vote.

What's more likely, that someone who feels moderately for a position chooses indifferent because they can't or don't want to commit to a position, or someone who is truly indifferent picks an option at random just to feel included?

I say the first, so to get the most accurate results I chose to omit an 'I don't care' option so as to, yes, skew the results less.

Technically speaking, my protagonist in GTAV -is- female. Because I play a female character in GTA Online.

But yeah, I don't really care who the protagonist/s of GTA VI will be, because I'm assuming they're just going to be whatever gangster-style archetypes fit best in whatever American city Rockstar decides to parody this time around, and that they're either going to be just as "meh" as Franklin and Michael, or as over-the-top ridiculous as Trevor was (ie, barely real characters at all).

At this point in video game history, I'd vastly prefer they just stop their pretensions of grande arte and just let the player create their own character visually/voice set *cough*Saints Row*cough*, but I don't see Rockstar ever doing that.

Though based on things that have been said, and the amount of money they've made from it, we might never see an actual GTA VI as much as we might just see GTA Online 2 instead. They absolutely LOVE how well that business model worked for them.

When maleShep is Paragon he sounds like someone who's had a lobotomy, or an alien who has heard of this thing humans call emotion, but doesn't quite understand it. When maleShep is Renegade, he sounds exactly the same, only slightly louder.

He doesn't really develop even hints of anything resembling a personality until Mass Effect 3, by which point it's kind of too late (which kind of counter-balances the fact that femShep starts to over-do the emotion in a few places in ME3).

I don't blame Mark Meer for that (whoever was voice directing him clearly just told him to do Space John Wayne and then gave him no imput of any kind), because he's done a ton of other voices in other games, and he has a HUGE range. But his Shepard is quite possibly the worst role he's ever done in his entire professional career.

Yes, if you want your Shepard to be "1980s Action Movie Space Robot", then sure, go with maleShep. But femShep is far better as an actual character and believable human being.

Historically, they sure as fuck do. Stephanie St. Clair and Ma Barker immediately spring to mind, and Australia's Tilly Devine and Kate Leigh are also quite noteworthy (and not just for hating the shit out of each other).

I think it's really dumb that GTA V had three protagonists, and all of them were men.

I'd very much like GTA VI to have a female protagonist, or the option for a female protagonist. As others have said though, assuming it's done well. Most (all?) of the women in GTA V appear to fall into some really bad and obnoxious stereotypes, so I wouldn't want a protagonist of VI to be the same. (But to be fair, a lot of the non-player character men do too, so...)

I wouldn't like if they do a character customization thing a-la Saint's Row, but if they insist on pre-made characters again then I wouldn't mind if one of them is female. I am usually the kind of person who hates when you create a character in a game just to check off an SJW box, especially when when said character has no defining characteristics other then their gender. However I know Rockstar wouldn't do that so I wouldn't be worried.

Besides, if V had 3 playable characters, the next one will have...what...at least 5 right?

You know, that actually makes the most sense. As odd as it sounds given how much content their actually was in the game, it kind of felt like they cheeped out on the GTAV single player. It all basically felt like a giant tutorial for GTA Online, and given how much they were hyping up the map it was kind of disappointing how small it actually felt.
