While I don't necessarily think that raw is best (I like mine grilled), if you are adding two overpowering flavors then you are no longer eating broccoli. It is just texture at that point. I love broccoli and eat it lightly steamed all the time. This is just another delicious way to prepare it. You also aren't supposed to overwhelm it with the parm and breadcrumbs.
