I think it's at around 50% (Non-Quest). Like it's a really good counter to Rogue and can beat Taunt Warrior if they are dumb and play on curve instead of gathering a lot of armor. It also beats slower Shaman since they no longer have the heals and such.

Priest is probably the worst matchup and Paladins run Hydrologist nowadays so if they get you to one and then Eye for an Eye it's tough to deal with them.

I piloted it to get from 5 to 2 today. Quest Warrior isn't too bad, since either they don't mulligan their quest and they lose, or they do and then you slowly outvalue them (and now they have a dead draw at some point anyways). The only real danger is accidentally drawing so many cards you die of fatigue, because that's QW's only wincon at that point. With priest, just murder PotF the second you see it and it's 'kay. Paladin dies to AoE (or really, just a frostbolt to their Warleader), and Eye for an Eye is only a problem if they can get you to 1.

The real problem is Hunter. Stupid deathrattles...

EDIT: I should probably specify that I'm running what Tempo Storm's calling a "control mage," though it still feels like a freeze mage more often than not so that's what I call it.

never punished taunt warrior makes a huge misplay, leaving himself at exactly 7 health and a beast alive on my side of the board.

of course I draw Kill Command one turn too late to otherwise instantly win the game, and end up losing

Bad paladin arena run

Match 1: Vs Warrior
-I go second. Warrior has prince in his deck. Starts with War axe. Plays an Illidan that was not one of the five random ones. I actually could have won if he didn't start with war axe, didn't have illidan or something.

Match 2: Vs Paladin
-I go second again. Thankfully this paladin didn't have an amazing deck either.

Match 3: Vs Shaman
-The Shamans deck was pretty insane. Multiple clears, good tempo cards etc. I just happened to top deck better when it got to the late game. We were like 20+ cards in I went second again.

Match 4: Vs Mage
-The mage had the following: Two Flamestrikes, Firelands Portal, Meteor, strong elemental synergy. He even got a renounced darkness from a fucking servant of yogg and STILL EASILY WON. I also went second. Note: I actually had a shot at winning. I got the discover a taunt minion and tirion was an option. If he didnt play cobra the turn before I could have lived with one HP and would have been able to drop tirion the turn after. The hero power he got was the druid one.

Match 5: Vs Mage
-This was the first match where I went first. Got one of the best starts possible for my deck. BUT STILL COULD HAVE LOST TO A SINGLE FLAMESTRIKE.

Match 6: Vs Rogue
-Going second. If you don't know, rogue is one of the best classes (if not these best) class in arena when going first. However, he adapted divine shield right into my blood knight. It's likely I would have lost if not for that.

Match 7: Vs Shaman
-I go first. The shamans opening is pretty bad. I win easily

Match 8: Vs Paladin
-Going first again. Only my hand sucks. I mean the guy plays murlock raider on one though so not all is lost. That is until he coin kinds on 3 when I have like a 2/2 on the board >.>. He also played hemet on 6. It was looking really bad until... HE PLAYS CRUSADE INTO BLOOD KNIGHT. After that the guy didn't really have any way to come back.

Match 9: Vs Hunter
-Going second this time. Somehow the hunter doesn't have a turn 1 play. I can tell it's not an aggro deck which means I have some chance here. But it already looks bad by turn 5 when he starts to heavily out value me with deathrattle minions and adapts. The hunter either: drew cards, played adapts, a deathrattle, or used spell removal every turn.

6-3. Three of the matches I won was due to blood knight, the other 3 were due to dinosize. The only match where I feel like my deck was the better one was the second shaman.

lol, Lifecoach. I wonder how long he took to compute all the possibilities before deciding the best play was to throw a hissy fit.

The problem with it being summon is that this would include Unleash the Hounds. In theory the hunter could complete the quest literally using one 3-mana card. I'm sure that alone is the reason why it's not summon.

I think Lifecoach was just tired of playing the game and looking for any excuse to leave. he wouldn't be the only HS personality who overrated a quest. people in general had no idea what to think of them pre-release.

as far as I know he has said that he went to blizzard, told them the card was broken, and they did not listen to him. that seems to imply it was not changed. unless they changed it at some point and chose not to tell him which would seem weird.

anyway I think his reasoning (back then) was that since broken 1 drops are a huge problem in the game filling your deck with broken 1 drops would be a gamebreaking problem. except it doesn't exactly work like that. a deck full of 1 drops is not very good once you get past like turn 4, and even that is pushing it. you can't complete this quest with any level of reliability before turn 4. you're left with a deck full of cheap cycle cards which aren't as good as they seem either. on turn 6 you want to play savannah highmane. you don't want to play 3 raptors and then draw your highmane without enough mana to play it. because you had to cycle through a bunch of cycle cards first. that's assuming you even draw into the highmane and not into one of your other now near useless 1 drops that don't even draw you another card. whoops.

rather he was invited to blizzard to give his opinion, he basically had nothing to say except 'this hunter quest card is broken,' and then was mad when they didn't listen. I guess from his perspective if he took the time to come all the way there and talk to them about it it seems like they should have listened to the one advice he gave them.

(although he ended up being wrong in the end so he probably does not feel so good about it now)

Midrange doesn't care about card draw and is more about filling out the curve (Hero Power works wonders and I usually 3 and Hero Power over playing a 4 on 5)

If I don't get a turn 1 play with Hunter I lose like 75% of the time. I can't imagine running the quest

speaking of awesome 1 drops babbling bird gave me king krush at the start of my last game which I held on to until the very end against quest rogue, then bursted him for 8 damage lethal. guess that army of 5/5's didn't help him very much

Pretty much. I remember reading a dev diary saying that the quests were originally 0 mana. Hunter and Shaman are definitely the two quests that got decimated by that decision.

I don't buy that he was looking to quit, because he's still playing, and I never had much respect for Lifecoach to begin with. How often do you really need to rope on turn 2 while computing all the possibilities of what could happen? It's not like Hearthstone is a perfect information game and he can calculate three moves ahead like a chess player.

Running a handbuff n'zoth Paladin deck right now. When played right, it can deal with freeze mage fairly well. Wait for the Alex then throw down forbidden healing. They can't burst from as high a health point.

actually I suppose I'll just ask the question first and see if anyone knows the answer... rather than seeing if anyone might know the answer and then asking the question.

so uh

I know when you play Animal Companion, Alleria will still summon Rexxar's companions instead of her own. I remember reading this had something to do with the dev team's decision to make this a game where even a casual viewer can look at the board and immediately understand what is going on. basically I guess the idea is that if Rexxar summons Misha and Alleria summons a different 4/4 taunt, someone who just catches a screenshot or a glimpse of the game might not know that the Alleria player used the Animal Companion card. I have no idea how much merit this idea has and it's possible they just didn't want to generate additional assets.

yeah. I guess they could have given her a line like "join me!" when animal companion is played. this is ambiguous enough that it could imply Rexxar's companions are simply assisting her. which is basically exactly what is happening I guess.

indeed. yeah special interactions are rare in this game but I would have naturally assumed that the characters you pay extra, real money for would be the ones to have special interactions. not that they'd be the ones with the fewest.

By My Beard! is the best of the wow emotes and it isn't even close

Uther is second and is standout like every single other emote he does

as you can probably guess by my rankings, I like the sarcastic ones more than the more vibrant reactions. those were just for the 'wow' emotes specifically. my favorite emote overall is Liadrin's "My sincerest thanks." since it can unilaterally be used in response to any other BM that a player sends at you. it's pretty much the ultimate weapon in terms of sarcastic response to BM.
