Why do you come to a gaming forum to argue politics and not a political forum?

Just curious.

For me personally, i didn't "come here" for the politics. I came for a mafia game and grew to mostly like the crowd. It's more like discussing politics with acquaintances instead of strangers, which makes it more attractive than just going to a board devoted to politics.

Its because this board is no longer 12 to 20 year olds who need to let the world know how pokemon is the best game, no FF7 is, no OoT is and is now 24 to 33 year olds who need to let the world know how we need to "fix the country"

The level of discourse here is higher (which a few exceptions...) than a place like /r/politics. It's also much more satisfying to talk to the same group of people over time than a rotating group of strangers.

Yeah something like this. Albeit I'm still here mostly for games, I tend to just read about them and comment less on gaming whereas politics is an area where more discourse tends to be needed.

really not much of a mystery, people care about the goings-on of their government so they talk about it and some people disagree so they keep going at it

i didn't "come here to argue politics" in 2004. back then this was a super active social board where people talked about everything (yes, including politics) and i thought it was very fun, so i stuck around.

and the politics board on this site is awful, so...

I would take part of these discussions more if it wasn't 90-95% liberal and like 3-5 loud conservatives/non-liberals arguing against them.

B8 discussions are actually interesting when both sides are equal-ish (think a hard to predict Contest match) but when it's mostly people just arguing the same thing it's not fun

I don't "go somewhere" for politics. Politics is simply an aspect of our lives that I consider to be completely inescapable, as much as I'd like that not to be the case, and it's just natural that conversations about it are going to happen. I don't actually like politics, so I'm not going to go somewhere like r/politics to talk about it, that would be hell. Somewhere that has some other topic of conversation to both unite us and ground us in some semblance of sanity is ideal before we dredge into the unpleasantness that is politics.

So, I need to log in once a day for my GameFAQs karma, and then I'm already here and well....

Yes. Please contain these topics in a single Politics topic here on the board. Vlado spamming Politics topics all over the board is really starting to get annoying, considering he's not even from the same continent even more so. Board 8 feels less and less about video games and contests these days and this may be a large reason why.

I wouldn't really consider myself conservative or liberal

although plenty of liberals would call me conservative
and plenty of conservatives would call me liberal

normally I just try to come up with the best, realistic solutions for whatever is currently happening based on the evidence we have available.

I agree that a couple are (EC? JDTAY?), but the "post quantity" is irrelevant.

The original complaint of "I'd post if it wasn't 95% Liberal" is a self-defeating statement.

There ARE plenty of B8 Conservatives, and I don't see why it's the "Liberals" (in quotes because at least half of the most active posters aren't even Liberals) fault they don't post as often.

I'm pretty sure a good portion of liberals have stopped too, to be fair

But yeah usually when I click it's like 8 users who are liberal to varying degrees, SephG, and blackscar/psaltery whoever posting like twenty links

well, i thought angelo was talking about politics discussion on this board in general, not just the politics containment topic. EC and JDTAY are pretty active in the freedom topic and that's definitely a politics topic.

obviously the list becomes a lot shorter if we're just talking about the containment topic, though plenty of those users post there frequently too.

Post quantity is very relevant for perception.

One guy posting eight times as much as another has a voice that's eight times as loud. Very few of the conservatives listed care enough to engage anyone.
