Nope, no need to add the theme if you don't want to. The Basic ranking post will cover that info. I think I only did it after I realized that most of the youtube videos were labeled with "theme". The only tunes that I thought it fit for was the Boss Themes or the Title themes though. The stages all sound better labeled as they are imo.

Ok finally managed to catch up with this. I'd say there are a couple eliminations so far that definitely shouldn't be. I mean, nothing "good" has been eliminated, but there are some things that should have placed a bit higher.

Also, it probably wasn't a good idea to give any of these a score based on youtube popularity, because that's completely depending on what video you use. On 1 video a song may have a 90% like rating, and on another it might have only a 70% like rating. Same thing with the amount of likes/dislikes.

{Was mostly exaggerating for comical effect there, but I did have a different set of scoring criteria when I first started... which required listening to the complete videos, multiple times... I planned on trying to put each song through some of those games that generate levels based on music & see if they created anything fun. The answer appeared to be: No and I am never going to endure even the three minute long version of this song again. Calling it hell was an obvious exaggeration, but it was probably the low point of the entire experience.


Reference to Powered Up is completely arbitrary. While I do love that game and would be quite excited for Time Man & Oil Man's themes to appear in a later Rating project, if we were ranking music from it then this song wouldn't be replaced with Time Man--it would be, ya know, the Stage Select theme that is remix of this one:

Which isn't too bad, honestly. It's still the same few notes, but the higher sound quality & added instruments give it several advantages over the original. Alternatively, I haven't listened to it for three straight minutes, begging for any other song to come on, so it's impossible for me to like it less than the original. </.<


And I wouldn't say I disagree with you, TUM, though I think it's entirely fair to judge songs based on the videos that were provided. Were I doing a ranking topic with nominations and someone gave me a low-quality video, I'd hardly take the time to find a better link myself--even if the low sound quality cost it points. Similar thing here; yeah, some definitely gained or lost points based on the exact video that was given, but eh, that happens even under rational ratings.

A five second loop that you will be sick of before it even finishes once. A terrible start to what turned out to be the last game and ranked and--SPOILERS!!--the worst. I think there was only one song I liked in this entire game.

Also, I think I may hate Auto himself. I don't get the name--did Capcom of America name him that just because he drove a vehicle in the opening scene? If so, that makes it incredibly stupid that he isn't playable in Battle & Chase. The robot named for vehicles, who is the only character with his own vehicle, only appears on loading screens.

His Japanese name, "Rightot", is somehow even worse. The only thing I can come up with is that it's a combination of Dr. Right and Robot, which may be the least descriptive name in the history of characters. It'd be like if Disney named his character "Dismouse".

And why does the game act like we should know him? He just appears suddenly in the 7th game, but it acts like he's some long-term assistant to the good doctor that we should have heard about by now.

And the one good thing about Auto was removed by Capcom of America! In the Japanese version, you could get Dr. Light, Roll, or Auto to comment on the weapons you obtain. Auto makes terrible jokes about the weapons, but he's amazed by Slash Man's weapon, commenting that's it's just like Strider Hiryu. That was funny and practically justified Auto's existence by itself. So naturally they removed it, because 7 had the worst translation of any game in the Classic series.

{One of the biggest gaps between how I felt about a song (fourth worst song in the entire ranking topic) and how it wound up in my personal rankings, jumping up so many ranks based entirely on the fact that I strongly disliked Auto himself. There are a lot of reasons counting write-up length as a category was a bad idea, but most of them are best exemplified by this ranking alone.

...though I kinda enjoy things I can make fun of, so the fact that I hate Auto means that I kinda like Auto? It's...weird, but while I hated him when this started, this whole scenario is funny enough that I don't know if I really mind him at all now. Certainly don't like him, but...

EDIT: Also, in retrospect, I wouldn't say seven was the worst and I'd say there was more than one song I liked. It was just...disappointing and less memorable than other games?}

We started with what I can now say is definitely the best Weapon Get theme in the Classic series; moved on to Freddie Mercury dodging laser bolts from some kid's game controller; and have now jumped to early 2000s NickToons. This could have ended up as the longest write-up of all, but thankfully: 1.The Weapon Theme itself is too short to comment on; 2.That's not a top-tier Queen song and I'm sure there's a hundred people that know more about the band than I do, so I'm not even going to try to talk about them; 3.I'm not a fan of Danny Phantom. I think Johnbobb was? If you really want to hear about the show, try @ ing him and see if he'll talk about it.

Under a rational ranking, some songs will gain or lose points based on the quality of the upload. One could alter the outcome by tracking down the highest quality upload. Or lowest, if you're trying to sabotage the result for whatever reason.


Under an irrational ranking, some songs will gain or lose points based on the popularity of that particular video. One could alter the outcome by tracking down the most popular video. Or least viewed, if you wanted to sabotage it.


So, yes, I agree it skews the results based on the exact video that was used. I just figure that is something that happens under sane rankings anyway.

And I agree it was a highly flawed category that shouldn't have been used. For better or worse, it definitely limited my opinions (my personal favorite song wound up at... I think 38th on my list since no one else likes it?), which...kinda...defeats the point... and it's only tangently related to the songs. I don't disagree with your conclusion, just the rationale that led to it.

I came close to doing the entire list over, but Se7en approved things knowing how it might turn out and I wanted to save my energy for a hypothetical future ranking topic. Suffice it to say the last two categories probably wouldn't be used again, but here we are. In a topic without Time Man, Mega Man Shop, or coherent ranking systems. Truly, the darkest ranking topic.

The joke is that irrational nonsense makes the ranking system far more 'me' than if I just gave a normal ranking. Well, not so much a joke, but... I am exactly the type of person that would have done this. And it amused me because I had little idea how things would end up. There were more surprises with my list than a normal one, which was kinda fun. It was an interesting experiment, at least from my perspective.
