I believe I just got Fuuko on my team. ...Why does that make it seem like I'm not as far along as I thought?

Also, I completely forget my daily strategy for this game and who corresponds with my social links. So this will be an adventure!

Damnit.

Okay, what is the alternative to going to Tartarus at night again? I literally cannot remember a single thing and there's no way I'm restarting this game! From what it seems like I have my progress maxed out there until... some date?

Yeah its entirely possible you have reached the end of where you can go for now.

At night you can study or build models or do one of the social links at the dance club.

There are two social links you can eventually do at night but until you unlock them it's basically for studying or other stat increases at the mall.

You can also go to Tartarus at max progress anyways to do Elizabeth's missions if you are missing any. I think the PSP version even added rescue missions you can do on certain dates to drag you back in.

And I am starting to remember now. However, I've hung out with two of my social links and nothing happened. Am I supposed to be triggering something or do I just need to keep hanging out with them until I get a new scene?

Yeah you just keep hanging out with them. Sometimes blanks happen but it's not a big deal. I think they actually happen more the higher you are with someone.

Also for a tip: it helps if one of the persona you own has the same arcana as someone you are hanging out with.

It means you probably chose the wrong option the last time you hung out if its taking a while.

Some of them require a certain level of smarts or cool.

I just wanted my hot swim team assistant girlfriend to love me.

And for my weird little school buddy whose story I can't remember to give me stuff. Neither was success. :(

And I just grinded for a long while to remember how the game plays. It took forever to get single levels on my Personas so I'll just assume I'm way overleveled and I should just do whatever until the blood moon thing gets there in a week which, if I remember right, means I get a boss and can go further into Tartarus after that.

Most Personas get way more experience when you fuse them with a social link you've leveled up. Basically, you can get 3-4 new skills automatically with a max social link. If your social link is at like 1-5, don't expect too much.

God knows how long that would take otherwise. A skill later lets unused Personas gain battle experience (called Growth), but that's about the only thing you can really do for grinding.

Oh big tip as well, when you go to do a social link, make sure you have a persona of their arcana. You get a bonus to the relationship points you earn so it's less likely you'll have to "waste" a day hanging out with no rank up.

See, I don't get it. There's some arcana that I don't even have or that are only upgraded via progression. It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense that I can only get a boost from certain fusions via arcana when I can't even control my progress in some of them.

Some of the high tier persona are level locked. I think the first Tower you can get is level 31, and then Aeon and Judgment are locked at the high 60's iirc.

Yeah you should almost never bother trying to grind to level personas. The only time I'd ever do it is if you see their next ability is something you REALLY need for a boss you're stuck on and have already looked through fusion options and can't find something else instead.

And even then its usually more time efficient to just fuse your current 'extra' personas (meaning the ones sitting in your list that you don't use all the time, since you'll usually only have 1-3 that you switch between that are of any real use at a single time) at random to get new combinations available because you're pretty likely to find something that will work within one or two rounds of fusing anyway.

Once the game progresses, you'll have access to all social links and the Persona that fit the category. If you don't have them, don't worry. All but one shows up by January.

All that really matters is that you fuse new ones as you go. If you see Persona you currently own showing up in card shuffles, that is a sign they are outdated.

Also, as long as you have Personas in battle that hit every weakness and avoid them (notably light snd dark), it doesn't matter what category they come from. Switch to what you need, and the game is manageable.

Well, I lucked upon three new social links with a foreign person, this ridiculously shy girl, and a fat kid. And then I got Kenji's rank up and botched getting hot swim chick's rank up.

And then I beat up a giant heart and was big hero. But more importantly, I leveled up enough that I can hold more Personas!

That is the f***ing worst and so stupid. I have a character with revive in my party. Why does it refuse to allow her to have a chance to revive the main character? Why does it just end the damn game?

From a battle mechanics standpoint, it helps to balance the game. I mean, your character can switch on the fly to any Persona with any skills/strengths you want with almost no penalty, and about 2-3 other characters get full-party healing and revive skills. Unless you got caught with a crazy ass AoE spell, you'd almost never run into a situation where you'd be threatened towards death.

Unless you play on Extreme, this game would be easier than dirt if it was normal. Heck, P4 lets you control party members, and even that makes it a bit too easy (not even accounting for P4G's version of the support character being godlike).

Well, when I get spammed with AOE moves that myself and my healer are weak to without a chance for me to really do anything, it's a little bit more than unfair. I dunno, it just doesn't make sense to me. I get it's an older game, but stuff like that just really demoralizes me from playing.

About to start it back up and then save much more constantly.

Also its probably worth mentioning that Persona 4 fixes the random one hit kills to an extent

While they still exist and can do that, your party members get an ability that lets them take a mortal blow for you once per battle.

So if you get surprised and unlucky, its just someone else in your party dying instead of a game over.

So yeah it is an issue in P3, it just shouldn't be that big of one. Oh, also, you will get items to resist instant death moves later on in P3 (I think you can technically get lucky and find one where you are from a chest or something, but I know you can trade gems for them in the antique shop a bit later on).

So I get pretty far without any trouble and run into a group of four Silent Books who use their AOE insta-kill to kill me on the very first turn.

So I start up again and the second battle I get into, I run into a group of four Silent Books who use their AOE insta-kill to kill me on the very first turn.

This is absurd.

No penalty. There are two tricks you can use out in the field.

1. Climb stairs. Enemies are dumb and can't climb them for some reason.
2. If the enemies haven't noticed you yet, you can open the menu, close out, and they should turn to one of four directions. Keep doing it until they turn behind you.

Either of these tricks should allow you easy access to a free turn when battle starts. I also prefer fist or bow weapons. Their attack speed in the field is quite good.
