No one uses Zelda because she's too slow. The whole thing with Shiek is that Zelda is supposed to be the "Gen" of the game, but Sakurai is being dumb and adds to much time in between transforming.

That's what I'm saying. Take the B-moveset Zelda has and give it to Krystal (minus the transforming), since it barely sees action as Zelda's moveset, and then give her an A moveset of staff stuff, plus some agility, and you've got a strong new character.

Simon is a great CV rep.

Motherf***er moonwalks, up stairs even. Thats completely invalidates any argument against him. He'll have his own phsyics glitch, The Moonwalk

but there's billions of wayyyy better CV protagonists~

For all the people screaming "hypocrite": relax. Those of us who are skeptical about this new direction have every right to be given how disappointing Brawl was. It's not just the slow, campy mechanics or utter lack of balance; even the single player elements were botched. Items weren't nearly as fun. Pokeballs were bland. Event mode wasn't nearly as interesting. No unique target tests, and a more limited selection of single-player modes. The one "improvement" was the SSE, an embarrassing display of mismanaged priorities that was a black hole of development time and resources.

If by "focusing on improving gameplay" Sakurai means having a 45-50 character roster with no clones, more varied single player options, more stages, and more / better items, then I'd be thrilled. If, instead, he means another overlong adventure mode, more tired gimmicks, and more needless collectibles, then that's another matter altogether. Based on his track record, guess which is more likely?

#1 female addition is Lyn

pleaaaaaaase

I'm almost certain that the Fire Emblem roster for SSB4 will be Marth / Lyn / Krom. Marth because he's the original, Krom because he's the token "new lord" (and his moveset could mirror Ike's), and Lyn because she's the unofficial representative of the first internationally released FE title. That's significant.

Plus, we already know that Lyn was one of the characters originally planned to be in Brawl that was scratched, so I doubt she'll be cut again.

Nah. Eliwood is technically the "main" character of the game (although there are three lords who all play a pretty much equal role), but Lyn is understood to be the game's representative. As evidence for this, the FE7 DLC for Awakening was recently unveiled, and guess who? Lyn.

Kirby Super Star is a top-ten game ever in my books, so I'm hardly anti-Sakurai. But his ability to direct a good fighting game has hardly been proven. Melee was a great game (although the quality of its mechanics were accidental). Brawl was a colossal disappointment. Small sample size to work with, but given the direction Brawl took, it's hardly unfair to remain skeptical.

And seriously, LOL @ using KI:U as evidence that Sakurai will make another good fighting game.

Here's an analogy: Sakamoto has directed many quality Metroid titles. His most recent, Other M, was terrible. Assuming he announces a new Metroid game called "Other M 2," would you use Other M or Super Metroid as a way to predict how good the game would be?

It's an excellent analogy.

1) I can guarantee that this is going to be more like Brawl than like Melee. Just look at Sakurai's statements about Melee after Brawl released: he made clear that he wasn't a big fan of the competitive side of the community and wanted things to feel more "fun" and "accessible" (i.e. casual).

2) Even if you wanted to go "Metroid [#]," the analogy would still hold, so I'm not sure what you're getting at. Unless you think Sakamoto is in any way qualified to direct anything ever again.

As an aside, Sakurai is the worst Smash player in existence:

That's not really the Japanese style, but lately the Japanese have definitely started adopting Western development and design practices to pretty great success, so maybe he will do this.
