It's lazy and a waste of a character spot imo. Ganon being a clone of Falcon makes no sense at all when he could have his own set. Falco is essentially the same as Fox and could be replaced with Krystal. Ness/Lucas learn different special moves I think so there's no reason for them to be the same either. TLink could have moves based solely on WW and be different from normal Link. etcetc

you still got the character no? their moves looking the same is a minor issue as long as you got the character and they play differently

Krystal COULD replace Falco AND have a unique moveset (although they'd probably make her a clone). But ideally, she would be a more agile Zelda (since Zelda doesn't really get used aside from Sheik).

How sad. Limiting new characters for balance? Don't cater to the people that take a game designed for good old fashioned fun and turn it into hardcore serious competitive crap.

We can - and should expect both. Nobody disappointed about this news thinks that balance is unimportant, or that gameplay improvements should take a backseat to roster size. We just think that, hey, a 45-character roster really isn't too much to ask for at this point.

The waiting period between Smash games is awfully long, but if they're gonna do it right, I don't mind waiting 6-7 more years at all. Hell, even eight or nine, if that's what it takes. But it'd be quite the letdown if they took this long to make a game with a roster in the 35-character range.

I'm no pro at Smash, but playing Brawl sucks. I want playing Smash to feel fun again.

They'll probably swap out 6 or 7 characters, and if they follow through with their better gameplay mantra then everyone has the sequel they wanted. No one except the truly competitive players are gonna play this as religiously as a lot of us played Melee, so I don't understand why people can't look at it objectively and realize they're going to get their value's worth. Melee will never happen again. It made all the innovation, and thrived during a time without a lot of online gaming or these huge blockbuster games being constantly released. Yet everyone wants each Smash to be a 6 year time wasting juggernaut. Accept the game, acccept the gaming environment. Even it it turns out to be what everyone wanted, you're all gonna move on much quicker than you did with Melee. It's no longer novel, and most gamers are insatiable.

I don't need a massive roster with tons of new characters... but I hope there's still a decent amount of new blood, probably through replacing a lot of the clone characters.


The only thing that really gets me buying new versions of a fighter are different characters.

I'll definitely be disappointed if F-Zero doesn't get another rep in the next game, and I do hope it's Goroh. Black Shadow or Pico would be cool too though.

3. Paper Mario (IF you're gonna put in Toon Link, there's no reason why Paper Mario couldn't be one of the most awesome additions ever)
4. King K. Rool (Dedede made it in, and K. Rool already has a moveset from DK64)
5. Zoroark (Keep Lucario, but add Zoroark so we could have that Soul Calibur-esque "character that mimicks other characters' movesets" factor)

Judging by the previous releases of Smash, there are essentially two Fire Emblem spots. First one is for Marth, who was the first main character in the franchise and is iconic in that regard. Second is for whoever the current main character is, as a way of cross promotion. That is the only reason, for example, Roy got in. If I recall, his game wasn't even out yet when Melee came out

Although, Krystal could bring something new with her staff. Having a staff as a weapon would have a pretty different move pool than any other character in the game.

Technically, Zelda would be the Krystal clone, since no one uses Zelda. >_>

I'm saying, take all the moves that are wasted on a character everyone transforms to Sheik anyway, and give them to a more agile character. Make Krystal a staff-wielding magic-user that moves quickly. The main problem would be keeping her from becoming OP.

No one uses Zelda because she's too slow. The whole thing with Shiek is that Zelda is supposed to be the "Gen" of the game, but Sakurai is being dumb and adds to much time in between transforming.
