From: transience | #001 - Has anybody been following the 38 Studios drama? Basically, the Kingdoms of Amalur publisher owes the state of Rhode Island over a million dollars, which is cannot pay. They then skipped payroll so they could pay the fee, then asked RI for more money. To prove this, they leaked some video of their upcoming MMO, titled "project copernicus". The whole thing is super weird. Here's Copernicus - http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/18/first-video-of-38-studios-project-copernicus-mmo-flies-over-a/
The next two weeks should be all about Wii U. Everyone else is kind of bailing on e3 and it's hard to expect a lot out of Vita. Let's see where this goes.
yeah the Schilling stuff is obviously very big here, especially with how much of an advocate of small government Schilling has pretended to be. not surprisingly the second Uncle Rhode Island offered him a nickel, he asked for everyone else's nickel and then asked for more nickels as well.
If anyone wants to think of Xenoblade as a slog, well, at least it's a thoughtful slog. Amalur is the opposite and I think Schilling just got all chubbed up playing Everquest instead of having any real vision for his game.

Drop the -vania, makes it better!
Xenoblade isn't bad, but there's just not a big hook. Exploring is nice, but then you have enemies everywhere that are triple your level. I like playing it, but only in relatively short bursts.
yeah, I started to write up a thing about Schilling being a shill but didn't want it to turn into a political thing. my dislike for Boston makes it easy to mock him for this, I'll say that much!
anyway, I'm 62 hours into a second Xenoblade playthrough and still love it. it's really easy to like, which is why it's getting near-universal love on the internet.
Yeah, it streamlines a lot of stuff. It does some cool things, it's fun to play for a bit, but it hasn't really made that jump from 'alright' to 'great' for me after 15 or so hours. Best part of the game was still during the first few hours.
I feel like the combat in Xenoblade gets repetitive. I'm using pretty much the same strategy on every enemy. It's still a step up from hitting "attack" over and over, but it's still not engaging enough for me.
I started AC2 last night. I have to say it is a huge improvement over the first game in almost every way. The first assassination was not very satisfying though.
Also about that Bungie game, it looks like a series of games, and not an MMOFPS. I expect the games will have online similar to the call of duty or battlefield games, and less like MAG or Planetside 2.

38 Studios bought the developer that was making Amalur, it wasn't really "his" game. He's been pouring money into an MMO since 2006

Most things "Amalur" are from 38 Games, though.

Big Huge was already working on an open-world fantasy game when they were bought by 38, so they just took the project in development and added the Ama"lore" (LOL!) to it.

Yeah, I know what you mean here. The same 'strategies' basically work on everything. There's an extra step with the Mechon, but otherwise it's just a different variation of 'attack.' It's probably a Shulk thing.

Finished my Mortal Gauge playthrough of Asura's Wrath. It actually feels like a game playing it with that because you die in 4-5 hits so you really gotta memorize enemy patterns to avoid taking damage instead of just plowing through guys to build up your rage meter like you would normally.

I feel bad because I just got Witcher. not that Witcher is bad - it's actually pretty good, but I just have this insatiable desire to try DD right now and it drains my motivation to play anything else
we'll see

I want DD too, but after Diablo III I can't get it right now
hoping it's a game that'll drop quickly!
One of my friends bought it though so I'm holding out too to see if he'll sell it to me when he's done for half price
I think it'll be a nice Black Friday deal type of game. It just seems like a crazy time to release a game like DD - the console WRPG market is saturated (Skyrim, ME3, Amalolur, Witcher 2, Xenoblade to an extent), and a title like Diablo 3 just came out as well.
