ALSO, for anyone looking for a far better Game of Thrones videogame than either of the official ones, there is now a Crusader Kings 2 Game of Thrones mod (which yours truly worked on early in development, but far more proficient modders than me made into a pretty awesome first draft product). You can get CK2 for $12.50 on Amazon at the moment.

F***ing Boltons. Wonder how they're going to deal with that in the show? Both of those things (Roose taking Harrenhal and Ramsay sacking Winterfell) seem pretty important. I guess they could still do them, but without "Reek" or Vargo Hoat to set them up I can't see them doing it in a non-contrived manner.

Yeah us book readers have no idea what's going on with the show either when it comes to Ramsay. Apparently he was never cast and still hasn't been cast for S3. Should be fun!

Past book details that didn't happen, show watchers read at your own risk despite there not being any actual show spoilers (but who knows what they'll toss in the show later):
In the books, Roose Bolton left as they crossed the Twins (after Catelyn met with Lord Frey) to lead the diversionary battle against the Lannisters as Robb retook Riverrun. He was cut off after that point, which led to him being captured and thus taking Harrenhal. In the show, he still has never left Robb, and is one of the few of his "lieutenants" actually getting dialog. I see no chance of that coming to pass, but they've surprised me before.
About the next character you brought up, I will say this (show watchers should definitely NOT read this part, only people done with ACoK):
Ramsay could appear for like 15 seconds next episode without being cast, a la Beric Dondarrion when Ned dispatched him last season. Or he could just "be there" leading the sack but not be seen. They definitely set it up for him to be the one to sack Winterfell in the previous conversation between Roose and Robb (on the show).

Roose was never captured. Robett Glover was "captured" but that was all a ruse. After the diversionary battle, he initially retreated to the Twins, then he moved on to... the Ruby Ford I think? He sat his army there for a bit before Vargo Hoat made a deal with him to allow him to take Harrenhal. He sat there for a bit, meeting a certain handyman, before heading back to rejoin Robb.

I knew the ruse part, I just forgot Bolton wasn't one of the ones captured. I also missed the part where they actually got back to the Twins, but it's more or less irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, since they never rejoined Robb's main host up to this point.

rewatched Blackwater today. some cool things I noticed:
- Ser Dontos the Fool (the guy Sansa saved from being drowned with wine in the first episode) is the one in Maegor's Holdfast with all the women, juggling for them - when Sansa returns to her room, you can see the Hound in the background sitting completely still. on the first watch I didn't notice him until he spoke and thought he just came out of nowhere, but he's actually sitting right there all along basically in plain view.

I know, right! it sort of reminds me of the episode of community where Annie's pencil goes missing and you find out at the end of the episode that the monkey stole it, only if you go back and rewatch the episode later you can actually see the monkey take the pencil right there on screen and it totally blows your mind because how did you NOT see that the first time

From: CycloRaptor | #318 I honestly have not clicked a single youtube link ITT because I know that place is just a minefield of spoilers Yeah, that's a wise decision.
Hahaha. Was watching the season 2 marathon leading up to the finale and caught something I had missed.
When Melisandre whispers something to Davos's son in "The Night Lands" as he and his father are leaving the room, Stannis asks her what she told him. She replies, "Death by fire is the purest death," or something to that affect.
Come "Blackwater," well... there you go.

HOLY F***! Impressive episode, moreso than I thought considering the awesomeness of "Blackwater." I don't think I recall a situation in which I was awestruck then spooked out that quickly. The Others actually look awesome so I guess it was the accompanying music that was more frightening. But what a way to end the season! Wow! Meanwhile,
-Danaerys just shot her badassery levels through the roof. Just those scenes alone redeem her S2 story arc. I was also roused by Theon's speech. Really had me pumped up. Too bad it ended that way.
-I was kind of bummed that they removed the HotU visions from the book, but it's understandable considering the time and budgetary constraints. Still, I thought Dany walking through a desolate, snow-covered and destroyed Red Keep was a nice touch as was her exchange with ghost Drogo. (excited that they brought him back for that one scene) That one line that went along the lines of "Screw the khal of the night lands. I'm not leaving without you" was pretty funny but speaks volumes about Dany and Drogo's relationship, which made it that much more heartbreaking to leave him, fully realizing that he's just a vision and her dragons need her assistance. Again, just to reiterate, dragons ftw!
-Speaking of which, the writers didn't skimp on the more tender moments. Theon's conversation with Luwin and Shae's dialogue with Tyrion were some of the more minor highlights as they seem more sympathetic. I have to say that series Shae is a definite step up from book Shae.
Overall, fantastic episode. My only qualm with it is that the stuff with Robb seems superfluous and could have been pushed to next season. The first half also seems rushed to me. The changes from the books aren't that bad as the writers can work around them.

"I'm giving you an all-tomato, meaning that you give me the whole tomato, or else."
Yeah, the changes in the House of the Undying were by far my biggest disappointment, but I guess I can understand why it happened. It is a shame though because the House of the Undying was pretty much the only part I was ever really that interested in Daenerys's story, but I know I'm in the minority on that front.

wow that speech from Theon was phenomenal, shame how it ended. basically every part with him was amazing. just. wow. solidifying why he is one of the best characters in the series.
also the ending

I never liked Sam much in the books but he's actually been a lot more likable in the show. seeing him at the end like that looking like he's about to cry almost made me feel sorry for him.

Great episode. Daenerys's stuff was amazing. I can't believe she locked her handmaiden in there, she was awesome. Did she lock that one guy in there in the book? I kinda forgot what happened there.
Tyrion's scene could have been handled better.

I'll rank from best to almost best to close to best parts because there were no bad parts.
1. Theon Greyjoy. Deep down I knew it would end that way. I knew they wouldn't go out swinging ala 300 because in real life men value their lives far too much. But Theon's speech had me jacked. His people turning their back on him made sense though because like his councilor said "this isn't you Theon". His entire arc was brilliantally conveyed. He cared so much about what his family thought of him that he'd rather face certain death. The worst part is you FEEL for him; he just wanted to make his crappy dad proud.
2. My obsession with Khaleesi returns. Do I care that her arc had weird plot holes and could've been resolved much faster... NOPE! Crazy ass Dany Targ is back!
I do love how they showed that Qarth was all a facade. An entire country pretending to be something that it's not, spending money they don't have. Sound familiar? The vault revelation was phenomenal.
3. Brienne and Jaime continue to entertain me. They need their own show.
4. Tyrion's situation breaks the heart. Good men never win and they have endured that tyrion's greatness and Joffrey's cowardice is forgotten ASAP. I had a feeling Cersei tried to kill Tyrion. That family is cray.
And once again, Dinklage is getting the Oscar. 3 straight killer scenes in 3 straight episodes.
5. Lastly, that white walker scene was friggin epic. Just absolutely marvelous. It is incredible how this show gives us SO MUCH all while prepping for the future. Dany is coming. Zombies are coming. The Wildlings are coming. And the people of Westeros are screwed and they don't even know it.

You know the crazy part: NO ONE HAS MENTIONED ARYA AND JAQEN!!!
I'm sitting there just wishing she would go with him. Go become a crazy assasin and refer to yourself in 3rd person singular pronouns. Go seek vengeance. And when he changed his face... Holy crap!!!!
But yes, the theme was not running from problems. Tyrion didn't run, Brienne didn't run, Robb doesn't run, Dany will never run, Theon won't run, they all face their problems be it the smart choice or not.

yeah as much as I want to see her go with him though, I understand why she wouldn't just leave Gendry and Hot Pie behind.

lmao Grenn and Ed ran away pretty fast there at the end though
