Screw that, fight another civilization's mythology. The obvious one would be Judeo-Christian, but that might be a tad extremely controversial considering what Kratos does to everyone he meets.

This reminds me, I need to finish 3. I'd just gotten killed at the end of one particular sequence when I rage-quit, realized it was 3 in the morning, and stopped playing.
Kratos joins the army of Alexander the Great and kills every deity he comes across. (Obviously Alexander conquers the Indian subcontinent in this reality)

It's been done before multiple times, but still. Whoever made that topic saying there should be more games about taking on Judeo-Christian angels or demons or whatever is right. It'd also be cool to see him taking on enemies armed with modern technology.

Oh, and how about William Gibson's cyberpunk Voodoo deities? Granted, using that exact mashup would be copyright infringement, but that kind of fusion would be nifty. ...Okay, that might be dumb and/ar too big a leap for the next installment.

This is interesting. If it is a new God of War game, well, I mean that franchise as it was is completely concluded, there's nothing left to do there.
Assuming this is a new character in a new setting but with similar design and gameplay, well that's interesting. Using the name at this point is just a cash-in, but still could make for a good game, shall see.

*spoilers* --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------He chose to commit suicide, and impaled himself with a giant weapon so that there was a giant hole through his torso. There's a trail of blood after the credits, which I guess is why some fans such as yourself say he's alive. But crawling a bit with a huge fatal wound still means dead, and of course... it's his choice to be dead, it's not like somebody did it to him. The series starts and concludes with him commiting suicide.
It'd be beyond contrived and hilariously bad for him to star in a new game.

His "death" was deliberately left ambiguous and that whole after-credits scene was done deliberately to tease the idea that he might still be alive. It's not just some whackjob, crackpot theory that "some fans" have come up with, that's the reason it was there.
He could have faked it to fool Athena. Besides, he basically owns the underworld at that point anyway, so...
And I'd agree it would be poor if they hadn't added that extra scene. Like I said, that was specifically put there to make it look like he could be still alive...and seriously, have you SEEN the stuff he's come back from before? The guy says f*** you to every rule of life, death, and greek mythology.
He literally fights fate.

If by underworld you mean Hades, I interpreted the ending of GoW3 to mean that no longer exists, Kratos pretty much being the explanation for why everything from Greek mythology no longer exists in the world.
And hey, indeed the ending is up to interpretation, and if you dig thinking Kratos is all about continuing to live and fight, that's cool. For me, that's very against the story of the series (which concluded with the trilogy), I won't be at all interested if a new game stars Kratos.
I mean, it'd be like a bad joke if Kratos starred in GoW4, it'd be like oh hell, suicidal dead (with bloodtrail granted) guy is put back on the case one more time to fight something... yeah no thanks.

For me, Kratos is one of the reasons I love GoW so much. He's just so f***ing ridiculous and amazing in everything he does. Especially 2 and 3 when he just willingly destroys the world just to satisfy his own desire for revenge. It's so amazingly over-the-top.
The sentence was supposed to be like that, but do you really not get what I mean? I'm a huge fan of Kratos, which is why I would not support a watered down cash-in on him.
Ditto, if they make a sequel to my favorite series (you know which one), starring my fav character who's completed his story and will die (that guy), I would not buy that game either.

Kratos' characteristics and motivations aren't actually that big a deal. If somebody pisses him off in the afterlife, he would just resurrect himself to kill them in the face again. It's not at all hard to write him back into things in a realistic way. And you'd get Kratos awesomeness for the rest of the game. It's dumb to not enjoy a franchise just because the developers disagreed with you on the progression of a character.

This is pretty much the worst argument against not buying a cash-in I've heard. I mean, I've said hey I can respect your taste even though I don't dig it, you call mine (which makes perfect sense) dumb? C'mon now.
If this game does indeed star Kratos and pickup after GoW3, I'm sure I won't be the only one to find it that way. And you say the developers, for all we know the writers and developers of GoW4 won't even be the ones behind GoW3.
And yeah, your proposed plot on how he should never rest and will always come back from the dead to kick some ass.... well, by that logic it sounds you'd never find any sequel ever unnecessary. >_>
I mean, not to be a downer, but we're all gonna die. And that kind of plot just has no weight or resonance to it, and would be amazingly bad in this man's humble opinion.
And to be fair, it's still early, which is why I pointed it's odd some are assuming Kratos would be in this. There's no reason to assume that just yet.

Oh I get why the decision would leave a sour taste in your mouth. My issue isn't being unhappy with the decision necessarily but actively boycotting the game because of it. That's just odd to me, since it's not that big of an issue. While you're slicing and dicing through hundreds of bad guys at once are you still going to be thinking "damn it's so dumb they brought Kratos back!" or are you just going to be enjoying the wonton violence?

True, but that doesn't really change much.

A sequel can be utterly unnecessary and still be great fun, tbqh. I don't think we need a GoW4 at all, just like I don't really think we need Assassin's Creed Revelations, but I'm all over that s*** for sure.

since mines is Devil may cry i probley would it up to the spiderboss and get killed off after that then ill yell LIGHT - ertyu on how far he'd make it in DMC
Your phrase actively boycotting makes it sound weirder than it is, people saying they aren't into an idea and won't buy something if blank etc is pretty common and normal.
As for gameplay versus story, I don't need another dose of GoW gameplay enough that I'd wanna sit through a story that I'm not into.

That was kind of David Jaffe's idea of the end of GoW 3, but Assmussen had to **** that up.
