--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------He chose to commit suicide, and impaled himself with a giant weapon so that there was a giant hole through his torso. There's a trail of blood after the credits, which I guess is why some fans such as yourself say he's alive. But crawling a bit with a huge fatal wound still means dead, and of course... it's his choice to be dead, it's not like somebody did it to him. The series starts and concludes with him commiting suicide.
It'd be beyond contrived and hilariously bad for him to star in a new game.
