You dont need to read the LP to understand how to play this game, but its recommended that you read it.
Okay, so what is it?
Its a murder mystery game, with the following setting. Sixteen students are locked inside a school with no way to communicate with the outside world. Needless to say, they want to get out. BUT! There are only two ways to get out of there and both involve graduating. How do you graduate? There are two ways.
One is to make to the final 3 players. The final 3 players automatically graduate. This is important, for obvious reasons. The other is to kill another player and dont get caught.
How does killing/investigating work?
Its pretty simple. There are two periods, day and night. Day goes from 7:00 to 22:00, and night goes from 22:01 to 6:59. During the day, anything you do will be posted in the thread and will remain visible to everyone else. During the night, everyone must PM me informing me what their characters did from 22:01 to 6:59. Anything you do during the night wont be publicly noted in the topic, but if another character is in the same place as you during the night, theyll see you so...yeah.
If you want to kill somebody, you basically gotta do it at night unless you get ridiculously creative and set up a trap at night so that it goes off during the day or something.
For investigating, though where you are investigating will remain public, the results will be sent via pm.
The host(me) will also reveal what the crime scene looks like in general. Ill also provide maps regarding
How do we select a culprit?
After everybody got their chance to investigate, well move on to the trial phase. The trial phase works like this:
Everybody gets to announce their findings(with the option not to disclose something if they dont want to) and then say who they think the culprit is based on what logic. You can prove somebodys logic to be wrong by revealing your evidence. This lasts for real-world 48 hours or until everybody casts their votes. Their votes are public and can be changed at any time, but if all votes are cast, then the game automatically moves on to execution.
Execution?
Yes. Whoever is voted off as the killer is automatically executed, regardless of whether he is the killer or not. His identity will be revealed after the voting. If you voted for somebody who isnt the killer, then that's one strike against you. Two strikes and you die as well.
Okay so...how does time work?
Time is mostly important during your night actions. Night actions go from 22:01 to 6:59. You need to specify a timeframe you are acting and take into account the amount of time it takes for your character to go from one place to another. I'll provide everyone with a map of the area, showing exactly how long it takes to get to place A to place B.
This is important because if you go out at night and another character also goes out at night, they might end up catching you.
This comes from the game this game is based on. People will be randomly assigned roles from a list of roles. Normally, people would be able to pick their roles, but since this is a test game Im randomizing it just to test those roles out. When the player list is finalized, people will have a choice to either be High School Level Vanilla and have no special advantage/disadvantage, or take a chance and see what you roll in the roulette. You need to make a choice before you see what ability you could have gotten.
You can choose to keep your role private or public before the game starts. If you choose to make your role public before the game starts, youll be confirmed by the GM since it will be like in Dangan Ronpa where Naegi knew about his classmates skills except by the mysterious ones.
If you keep it hidden, you can reveal it later, but it wont be host confirmed anymore.
This is the current list of skills, but Im accepting any custom skill to be submitted to the database until the game starts. Well, Im accepting submissions, but if they are ridiculously overpowered I wont let them in, of course.
Just PM your custom roles to me and theyll be added to the database...assuming they arent ridiculous. Uh, yeah, thats about it. Any questions, shoot them here. Also, sign up dammit.

how much time do you think someone will need to devote to this game? I am semi-interested but I'm not sure I can really dedicate myself to something that is going to be as attention-demanding as board mafia.
--
Kill every suspect, starting at one end. The one left standing is your culprit.
It probably depends on how antagonistic the people are.
I'd say 2 weeks max if I were to guess.
It seems like it'll definitely be slower than board mafia, because there's going to be investigation phases and most likely only 1 death at a time, unless people are really ****ty at voting.
Yeah, that sounds about right. It should move a lot slower than board mafia so not nearly as attention demanding. The trial phases are probably going to move pretty fast, but they are going to have some decent breathers in between.
If we're claiming detective titles for ourselves, I'll be the Defeated Detective!

If I can make a suggestion as well: I don't think there should be a vanilla role. I feel like it might make it more dynamic if everyone had a different role, especially since it might give people something to do and spark more interaction. I think passive roles such as, say, Good Luck should still be a possibility as well.
And this may be a bit more complicated for a first time attempt, but I feel like Action Points might be better to get the game rolling along. I think it would give more value to you moving around and talking and doing any assorted actions. Using additional action points to hide actions might be effective too. Such as, if you wanted to hide something you were doing from everyone during the day, that might be effective. Like, if you wanted to take something from a room without being detected, you can at least do that and you might just run into someone in the hallways.
Another suggestion I have would include stat values (ie strength, athletic, investigative, intelligence, killer, and action points) based upon the role you get, and you can increase these stats by doing stuff during the day. This serves mainly to determine if you can lift certain things, how much you can investigate during the day (since if you end up with everyone investigating whatever they want, wherever they want, it might be very difficult for the killer to get away with it. It would also force the players to pick and choose carefully what they want to investigate), and how much you can change the murder scene when you commit a murder (like getting rid of some evidence).
Again, some of these might be a bit too much for a first attempt at the game-- and it is your game in the end-- but those are some suggestions I have.
Also, I feel like you should give us a list of the various roles you have so we might be able to help you come up with more!
Edit: That was definitely more than one suggestion, but the more I got thinking about it, I came up with more stuff. :p

Xbox GT: PrivateBiscuit1 Down with Zhang. Let there be Biscuit!
I'll think about those suggestions later, promise. For now, let me just post what roles I have right now. I might go for "no vanillas" and include passive roles, since hey I already have "Super High School Level Inflatable Boat Master" listed and that's pretty much the same.
There are some roles that are secret because if you guys knew they existed, they'd be useless. But it's fair to post the rest here to give you guys an idea of whether to go for "Vanilla or take a shot at getting a role?"
Super High School Level...
-----Running Man
You take 30% less time to move from place to place.
-----Zombie
You wont die even if you are killed. Well, you will, but see you are really damn good at playing dead and you have a ridiculous endurance. So your killer might think you died when you really, really didnt. Does not work against the best killers who use their brains when murdering people, but can save you in a tight spot.
----Magician
Wooooaaahhh. You are only smoke and mirrors. You have access to fake blood, a smoke machine and two big, movable mirrors in your changing room. You can get creative with these if you want.
---Fat Guy
You arent just fat. You are really, really f****** fat. Like a mad scientist made you this fat. Thats how scientifically fat you are. You take 30% more time to move from place to place BUT you have so much fat stored inside of you that you can survive a single bullet shot, and you can also stay three days without eating without significant repercussions on your character. So if you want to lock yourself in your room for a while...
---Professional Wrestler
You have a two-time PIPEBOMB. This allows you to call out one person to come out at night to meet you anywhere, at any time. The catch is obvious: you must use your PIPEBOMB during the day. So if you challenge somebody to come at a certain time of the night, everyone will know that. So unless you have a really good plan prepared...
---Psychic
You can receive messages from the dead at random. Those messages wont always be clear since theyll first go through me(the host) who will then transmit them to you, by omitting up to 40% of the words in that message. Theres also a chance that whoever dies may not give a s*** and refuse to help you, since they will be human players.
---Serial Killer
You are really, really, really, really damn good at killing people. You enter the game carrying an entire jar of cyanide, but you must kill someone every 5 days or youll go insane.
---Inflatable Boat Master
You have an inflatable boat. Thats it.
You have an inflatable boat. Yup. Thats all.
---Lethal Random Heart Disease
Woops, you got the worst role possible! You have a weak heart so basically somebody scaring the f*** outta you is enough to kill you.
---Spy
You have three cameras and one monitor you can install in your room. Those cameras are very easy to hide and very hard to find.
Actually, if you do have another slot open, I'd like to play. Read through the first trial in DR and it's interested me quite a bit. Haven't played forum games in years, but I used to play mafia a lot.
