I don't understand ff Fans anymore. What I hate is that people aren't even giving this game a chance. The story is different, there a towns, a world map to connect towns, dialogue choices but people still whine. I do admit however the recent Final Fantasy aren't the same, I blame it on the current director, like someone above me said. It isn't Final Fantasy it is him. Motymoria or something like that. He made FFX FFXII and FFXIII and FFXIII-2. While I do like all of those games, XII is when most people think the series went downhill. But with FFX he had two other people helping him. Have you noticed all the cheesy dialogue? He makes Kingdom Hearts also. What I don't understand is that the other people who made past titles are still there, but this guy should be fired. While I do like all Final Fantasies, and think that XIII was over exaggerated in terms of badness, you could put someone else, and it would have been better received.. I think that if the next ff game is announced (FFXV), Somebody should start a petition if he is directing it. I hope he doesn't direct it. Anyway, I will be getting ff13-2 as I think it will be like older ones as it is going to get from him. Fans should stop complaining and exaggerate a games badness. While XIII was linear, I think that the story is the only part they failed in.

FF for me was always a series that hinged on its variety. Story, set of characters, desire to explore an entire world, sense of adventure in uncovering mysteries, an enjoyable battle and progression system, a range of mini-games that prevented the main game segments from becoming stale, a fantastic soundtrack and the seamless blend of all these things together.

I never played FF for the maps or the battle systems, there was always other games that did these individual things better. It was the high quality of all of these things that blended together so perfectly to make such a strong experience. It's incorrect to pin the blame of FF's decline on just the maps or the story or whatever. It's the entire appreciation for the experience, for the whole package that appears lacking at the moment. The directors might well address some of the complaints and make a technically better game in 13-2 but I still think they've lost sight of that spark that made FF great. Even if they fix the main complaints of 13, that doesn't fix the main problem. If that makes sense.

I don't get how there are apparently people who think these maps are this more complex than the old FF games. I've heard people complain about the complexity of XIII-2's maps before but I always thought that were people who started with FFX, guess not!

also one thing people seem to be forgetting is that FFXIII didn't have random encounters so exploring should be a lot faster even if these maps are more complex than previous games.

psh those aren't so bad

RPG story

one time I played in a game that featured a labyrinth that looked mostly identical and it would teleport you from junction to junction. Each dead end looked from a distance like an exit, but actually consisted of an imp statue holding a sky-colored lantern that would animate, leap off the pedestal and recite

'oh look at this, it's a dead end is it?'
'you're pouting like children and throwing a fit!'
'well cry all you want as I don't give a ****'
'And now I will gate you - set you back a bit!'

And then it teleported us to a random part of the dungeon. If you can picture a grown man capering around and reciting this about 10 times then you can imagine what this was like.

There was a second rhyme when we actually did reach the end. If we didn't defeat the real devil in about 4-5 rounds, he broke into song:

'You thought you'd get out, oh I'm sure that you did!'
"You'd hoped that your boots would walk free on the grass.'
'But I've bottled you up, and stoppered the lid,'
'So get back to the start, and kisseth mine ass!'

and then slapped its butt, farted, and teleported us back to the beginning.

As you might imagine I don't have a lot of patience for people who worry about branching paths

What game was this?

I liked the linear hallways. Exploration in Final Fantasy games is never FUN, it's just a pain in the the ass. Taking it out was a good thing IMO. Hell, I'd go the other way: don't just make it linear, put it on automatically-advancing rails like Star Fox. Final Fantasy XIII: The Theme Park Ride RPG. Hell yeah.
