Up to level 8. We only get one of those though.

A Level+1, Level, Level-1, and enough gold for a Level-1, I believe.

Resplendent Boots (Level 6)

Yeah, there's a feat I can take that will let me create items of my level +4. So enough of this wishlist stuff. I'd honestly prefer getting somewhat random hand/arm/waist/foot items.

The problem with that is that 4e has so many class and even build specific items floating around... It's really kind of obnoxious.

I'd much rather not force a fellow PC to burn feats just so the party can function normally, honestly. It rubs me the wrong way to ask that.

(And on a different note, I HATE random items. I don't want a christmas tree if possible, either)

Hey Kan, remember when Anagram said not to powergame? You seem to have trouble keeping that in mind. You're insisting we get every single little advantage we can. I personally think getting exactly what we ask for ahead of time in dungeon loot is boring. It becomes less about "let's go in there and explore" and more about "let's go in there because I know it will have those boots I want."

Wow, yeah, because you know, getting loot, that's the goal here. If you control that, you might as well not play the game, huh? That's what you're saying. This isn't a video game; the loot represents a very small part of the overall appeal, so whether you control what it is or not makes next to no difference in the fun.

Not like wishlists are the only way to do it, but your argument is dumb. By the way, wishlists are specifically mentioned in the DM's Guide as a great system, so apparently the good folks at Wizards agree.

More importantly, my issue isn't one of power - it's of style. I hate, hate, hate, ****ing HATE random items because I refuse to let my gear define my character. I had enough of that in all the games of 1st to 3rd Ed. I played. It CAN work, but I don't want to do that in this game. As far as I'm concerned, Valerian's magic items are reduced to a single one - Vae Damno, his blade, which is only magical because I liked justifying its effects as being imbued with void essence. The rest occupies a slot and is dutifully recorded on my sheet, but in the gameworld, it doesn't exist. If somebody throws Val a military badge and expects him to care, it won't work (to explain this, my neck item is a Badge of the Berserker. This badge does not exist except as an effect). The reason Valerian doesn't generate OAs on a charge is because of his martial experience, not a fancy schmancy item. Wishlists let me stick to the character concept I want, instead of forcing me to make Valerian into a dude who looks like he got his clothes at a rummage sale just to vaguely keep up, because Anagram decided that what was good for me was not only X items, but also a certain apperance as well (sorry for calling you out Ana, I don't think you will do this. I'm just mentioning you because you're the DM, that's all. We''re cool! :) ). That's all it comes down to. If I have to choose between item abilities and inherent bonuses, I will take inherent bonuses. It will hurt my capacity to contribute a metric ****ton, but it will also mean I am playing the character I want to play, not the character I'm forced to play. And that's what matters to me in the end.

PS: Seriously, if possible, I don't even want to see magic items unless they are artifacts or plot important. At all. If I can get inherent bonuses and boons from here to eternity, I'll be a happy man. The only, and I DO mean only item that is going to be physically represented from my wishlist is the Power Jewel, and even that one will (I hope) have special flavor linking it to Val's style. Don't force me into begging or scavenging for magic items man. It's not fun to me.

And for emphasis, just so it doesn't get lost in my wall of text: I would rather deal with not having magic item properties or powers than hunt for random flippy magic ****. Yes, you read it right: I'm ready and willing to gimp myself if the other choice is making Val look like he just escaped a freakshow or is a shining hobo. I do NOT like random magic items, at all. Either they're quest-worthy, they come with my character, they're minor fluff items, or they don't exist.

Who cares about that stuff? >_>. It's not like you'll have to see it, it's not WoW.

As for inherent bonuses + boons, I was considering going that route for my own campaign.

I care. I care a hell of a lot. Why would my character, who is a psionic armsmaster, have reason to take the armor and weaponry of his enemies (especially the weaponry: Vae Damno was a gift given to Val by another member of the Crisis Band, and has plot and sentimental value to him) for himself, instead of simply refining his craft? Valerian is not Rei. He doesn't collect trophies, and in fact he's more likely to bury someone with the treasures they wore as they died than take them for himself. It just doesn't fit his character, honestly. That's what it comes down to. The tried and true D&Dism of "random loot, get that phat gear on yo' ass" doesn't fly with him.

PS: Boons and inherent bonuses are the bestest thing. I think you should still leave some room open for specific enchantments if the player is invested in them (like a Captain's Weapon, for instance), but handling most items as "you train under a master who teaches you hax tricks" or "you become more skillful!" is much cooler than random magic items.

So he's stupid? >_>. I understand your point, but if items that granted magical abilities to their wielder were commonplace, it would be foolish not to take what you can get. It's not a matter of trophies or treasure, it's about power that you, as a character as well as a player, need to have a chance at success.

Yes, if you want to call him that. He's stupid. He's not practical, not interested in succeeding at any cost, and willing to take dumb risks if necessary. He fought to disable an inordinately powerful warrior instead of killing her, and prevented the rest of the group from returning her to a life of slavery because it didn't sit right with him to take advantage of a potentially irreparably damaged psyche for gain. I, as a player, do not particularly care about having a chance at success if it means taking out of character actions. If items are commonplace, we'll do some refluffing. It's not like we can't say that his Persona levels up and becomes more obvious or something!

You might wanna take Bow expertise shados. Weapon Expertise scales slower, so there's no reason to go for it.

EDIT: You're also missing your armor bonus. Also, how'd you get six skills trained? Shouldn't that be five? And your damage mod looks high. A +1 weapon comes out to 4+1+2+2 (if you picked the bugbear), which is 9.

Which book is Bow Expertise in? I can't find it, only Weapon/Implement Expertise.

Ranger gets to choose Dungeoneering or Nature, then 4 more skills, and Human allows you to choose an additional skill.
1+4+1

Attack:
Dex+Prof+Poisoned+Half Level
4+2+1+2

Damage:
Dex+Poisoned+Half Level+Bracers
4+1+2+2
I accidentally included Expertise as part of the weapon damage when it should give a bonus to the powers, and may have added something twice.

I fixed my HP and surges to their proper values.

Edit: Yeah I only read like page one of the thread before posting that. Anyway if we're doing "wish lists" for items I guess I just want, down the road, better versions of what I already have. Honestly, this is why I like the inherent bonuses system over standard but that's just me.

Alright, I don't want to be "that guy", but I'm going through a bunch of BS out of game right now and I'm not sure if I have it in me right now to play a character I'm so emotionally invested in (Vance is a guy I've played for over a decade).

Would it be at all okay to roll another character and write Vance out? We could just say he's hurt really bad after that last fight (instantly knocked out from full to 0 off a daily crit and all). If not, that's fine, but I'm probably not going to be in the best roleplaying shape this session.

Edit: I didn't realize what time it was but it shouldn't take me more than 15 minutes to finish the character anyway...

- Met Sonya, the Fury second-in-command, Shursh, and Marial, her lieutenants
- Shursh proceeded to do nothing. Marial wanted to fight the heroes, but Valerian challenged her to single combat after declaring her a coward and pathetic for being so bloodthirtsy
- In the time it took Valerian to do 7% of Sonya's HP, Sonya did 100% of his
- Sonya then made Euri choose who to fight, and she took Marial
- The heroes defeated Marial embarrassingly easily, but Sonya took her unconscious body and declared her intention to throw her back to Rael for eternal torture and blame it on the heroes just for the evulz, and they failed to get Marial's Orb
- They called Winter annoying out of character
- Sonya then kicked Raita out of the Furies
- The heroes convinced Winter to help them track Sonya and Marial, but learned that they were moving too fast to catch conventionally
- They also rescued a dwarven artificer/wizard named Rogdar Rockreaver who helped the Furies assemble an army of Eladrin ghosts
- 500 exp for everyone

Domination effects (and weaker statuses like daze) are powerful in general, but absurdly so on solos. Some suggested solo powers I found online to help fix that are stuff like

At the start of each of this creature's turns, it makes a saving throw against one status effect on it.

and

At the start of each of this creature's turns, remove one status effect on it, and it grants combat advantage until the start of its next turn.

Sonya didn't get a chance to grant combat advantage. That would have been a considerably easier battle had Valerian hit on 13s and 12s instead of 15s.

(Also, I think that, given all the enabling power we loaded, taking her down like that is fair. Had any part of the combo missed, that would have been a hellish fight.)

We unloaded a billion dailies on her. The same would have happened had the dominate missed and Valerian fought her instead, for example. On a nova turn, we could have hit for...one second...

-One minor action attack.
-Another minor action attack.
-One charge.
-A second charge hit.
-Two action-pointed attacks with a WIS bonus to damage.
-An extra bonus to damage equal to +15, if properly positioned. This is per hit.
-Potentially, a punishment attack off-turn.

This with two rolls per attack except the double hitter, hitting on a 2, and before adding in Euri and Ashara's buffs, or the owlbear's aura. If we fight a single fight per rest, we will decimate it. We've got three strikers and two leaders. If we're not making mincemeat out of a target, we're doing it wrong. I would honestly suggest keeping the Furies within two to three levels of us *at most*, but giving them phases like Final Fantasy bosses - otherwise, we're going to trash them. Our focus fire damage is obscene.

PS: Incidentally, what about Marial's fight would have made her so horrible for Valerian? Or was that miss Barbarian you were thinking of?

I'll keep that in mind. It's okay, though. You may have taken out two, but they were the weakest two, anyway, and the others have gimmicks that will be, I expect, more problematic.

It was Shursh, yes. You'll have to wait and see what makes her a problem, though.

Incidentally, you're gonna have an aneurysm next level. I've got the bestest ace up my sleeve. :D

Let me put it this way. She reminds me of this guy:

Algus? In that she makes you want to kill her a lot? Because... I can literally think of not one trait they have in common besides being white. Like, a single thing.

The trait of being a villain you love to hate, yes. Also, remember what Algus did? He killed Teta. Sonya just dumped Marial back with Rael, effectively killing her for our purposes (unless some seriously crazy shonen **** happens and we get to her). Also, they use ranged weapons. That, like totally counts! :P

I like Sonya, hell of a villain. I'll admit a certain predilection toward Southern characters, though.

Thanks.

Anyway, everyone who isn't Kanz and Scep still needs to post an item wishlist for their character unless they want me to guess what they want.
