Even more annoying than those who are blinded by nostalgia, are those who counteractively shut their eyes to any notion that something in the past WAS, in fact, better than it is now.
You cannot TELL me today's cartoons are just as good, or rather, as plentiful in quality as they were in the 80's and 90's. The 80's were the renaissance of animation. I know that, and I wasn't even old enough to experience them when they were on. As for the 90's, make a comparative list of all the quality cartoons from the 90's, then one for the present. Then put them on a teeter totter and watch as the side with the 90's stack is so much heavier that it slams down so hard that it pierces through the Earth's crust, sending tremors that make the Great Wall of China quiver in its boots. And the Great Wall doesn't even usually wear boots; the tremors would convince it to PUT BOOTS ON just so it could quiver in them. ~ Captain Shast One, he's our hero Gonna take thread pollution down to zero. ....how on earth have animaniacs, pinky and the brain, chip 'n dale, tale spin, darkwing duck, reboot, and freakazoid not been mentioned. hell, batman returns also needs a mention in there.
those were some of the best cartoons of the 90s, easily that appealed to all ages. and anime has gotten so much ridiculously better overall that it's crazy to take almost any of 'em because the art's very dated in a lot of them. some hold up still, many don't. it's gotten so much bigger too that it's one of the most diverse mediums you'll find too, and all while staying as cartoons. kids are fine in that regard. US shows are the ones who've been dropping the ball, but occasionally a gem is found. Spectacular Spider-Man was far as i'm concerned the best comic book superhero cartoon ever made. it had all the charm that the good cartoons have had, but had so much better action scenes in it, and humor that rivaled the best of 'em. flat out best in that category. Justice League Unlimited didn't end THAT long ago, but the replacements have been disappointing. like yeah, saturday morning cartoons have generally sucked for a lot of the past 6-8 years or so, but there are definite gems in there. we've just sadly moved to a weaker style of animation since it's cheaper. some can still make good stuff with it (i occasionally enjoy Johnny when i turn TV on that early in the morning), but a lot suck at it (everything related to Legion, but then again the source material is horrible so they could only do so much). i also heard that if you could get past the art style that the newer Batman series had (has?) there was a legitimately good show in there too. i never could however, and its fight scenes weren't enough to wow me like Spidey did. -- The King Wang. I'm usually one of those "your generation was better to you because you lived it" people, but when it comes to cartoons, I consider it factual that the late 80s-90s was a golden age. BTAS, Gargoyles, Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, TMNT, etc.
Also, if I ever had children (lol) I would just buy DVDs of the above shows for my kids and never turn on the crap they have now. Problem solved. -- Official Queen ***** of the Universe! ... Copied to Clipboard!
