Stop this thought already, people have gone too far with it already. Just cause it's Link means nothing. There's nothing that would beat the original version of Link. Dark Link would probably be SFF's to death. I'm more than sure quite a few others would take down Dark Link too. You'd think Fire Mario, Paper Mario etc would beat normal Mario? Well forget it. Stuff like that aint happening.

But the point is, we've spent 10 years thinking that Link/Cloud are unbeatable because this site's userbase "grew up with" Ocarina and FF7, so nothing's ever going to have enough appeal to top them.

But what about characters we actually grew up with, like Homer Simpson or Leonardo or Batman or (for younger users) Harry Potter? Is one video game really going to top those shows and books and movies when it comes to nostalgia appeal?

MAYBE, but it's worth finding out, IMO!

Batman, Darth Vader, Han Solo, Captain Jack Sparrow, Homer Simpson. Those guys would all have a chance, but I can't think of any other fictional characters that would, and there's no way SBAllen would ever allow God/Julius Caesar/etc.

I think it's crazy that so many people are willing to completely dismiss Batman's chances. Y'all realize that Batman would be rallied to hell and back, right? And he'd almost assuredly have Noble Nine-level base strength, too!

Lincoln, or any historical figure from the US wouldn't stand a chance because a significant portion of votes come from outside the US.

Lincoln only won 39% of the popular vote in 1860. Even when only the Northern states were voting in 1864, he still only got 55%. And he's supposed to beat Link? Link would put 85% easy on opposition like Douglas and McClellan.

Note: Lincoln did win a plurality of the popular vote in 1860 because the opposition split up and ran 3 candidates. But had there been a single Democrat running against him, Lincoln would in all probability still have lost the popular vote close to 60/40, certainly more than 55/45, and still won the electoral vote. I think that's one of the reasons the South raged so hard at his election- he did not even try to win votes in the South, his campaign strategy was to win all the Northern states, which would give him a majority in the EC without a single southern vote.
