I would say it doesn't even matter what the other song was, except I want to give some props to Portrait of Ruin for getting this far. The game has won SEVEN matches in the loser's bracket, plus one in the winner's bracket. The only game that came close to matching that performance was YS 7. Iron Blue Intention may not have been good enough to beat the board's darling, but let's give credit where it's due. Chrono Cross advances to the Loser's Bracket Championship, 17-8.

Total stomp. Sorry GGX, but your first three tracks can't measure up to the brutally loaded list CC brings to play. This would be close with the last three, though.

Yeah. I'm the one who made the list for CC and the only track I'd take without a second thought would be SoT. That's purely my own opinion.
And of course I listened, but the first match was one I'd hand to CC automatically, because Magical Dreamers is one of my favorite videogame pieces outright and none of GGs tracks could take it except maybe Still in the Dark. The other two just aren't close because I'd have picked other songs for GGX there, they're not my favorites by any stretch.
I hope you understand I do have to ask when the post comes in in less than the time it would take to listen to all six songs.

I almost feel like we should be bolding our GGX picks to call attention to them. OTOH, I had to actually think about all three of these matches. None were automatic, even though I love Life - ADP. Having gone through them, I wouldn't have felt weird if I had picked a sweep for GG.
Call it pulling a Lady Madonna: I listened to the musics play in my head when I cast a vote (that, and I listened to GG tracks yesterday to celebrate something so I had them present). :P

First match is very close; both songs are very good. Slight edge to Blue Water Blue Sky.
Second match isn't. The Original, while starting out kind of weak, ends up decent thanks to the presence of a saxophone, but honestly it didn't matter because there's no way I was gonna vote for The Girl Who Stole the Stars.
God, Chrono Cross, would you please stop doing this? A couple of matches ago, when Scars of Time was taking on Shadowlord, I almost dismissed it as "merely boring" as opposed to the awful Shadowlord, but it turned out to actually be good. Likewise, Life ~ A Distant Promise started out so dull that I was almost ready to move on to the next song, and then it redeemed itself. Definitely not bad for Square Epic Cutscene Background Music, but, well...it's still the type of music that's suited to a deeply moving cutscene. Writhe In Pain wins this one easily--epic rocking, hell yes!

I had picked this format two months ago without credence for who would be here. I wanted the final three for the grand finals. I had toyed with doing 1-3-5 and then 2-4-6, but this is what I picked. Back then. I'm not going to change it to accommodate Chrono Cross. Other than maybe The Girl Who Stole the Stars, I don't see the other CC songs as all that weak, so I didn't really see the issue. You could certainly say that a game that frontloaded would have an advantage here...except a game that frontloaded wouldn't *be* here.
Anyway, what is, is. If Guilty Gear earns a rematch with Ar Tonelico, track 6 would be replaced with the alternate since those two songs have already gone head-to-head.

The Girl Who Stole the Stars That... isn't even the best version of The Girl Who Stole the Stars. Still, easy enough decision here.
Life ~ A Distant Promise Personal favourite CC track vs merely-better-than-average GGX track. Yeah... gonna go with Life here. On another note, I have to say, aside from Magical Dreamers, which is basically meh, I might actually prefer the front half of CC's track list here :O

I've never cared for Magical Dreamers at all, so first match is easy. ...Basically the same story in the second match. By the third match though Chrono Cross starts entering its better songs and so can win this match.

...No it wouldn't! What do you do if AT2 loses that (which odds are it probably does)? It's still not eliminated and now you've burned through all the songs. You're also in a difficult position if it ends in a tie, though that'd be harder to pull off if you had all 7 songs there.
...What would you do for Day 2?
Really though, this seems like a pretty silly hypothetical. Assuming Chrono Cross wins here, you're still going to get everything but the Alts facing off unless AT2 manages to defeat 2 of Time of the Dreamwatch/Dreams of the Shore/Scars of Time.

...But how exactly does that work? It kind of violates the idea of double elimination. In your case, if the LB winner wins under this format, why did you even make this double elimination because in most cases, you've basically killed the WB winner in one match because you're just repeating the same exact thing in the next round. I only see this format idea working well in a single elimination tournament because in that case you don't even have to worry about something like that.
Here, because it's double-elimination we should be at least trying to pretend that winning the WB actually meant something and that losing Day 1 isn't practically equivalent to an elimination for the WB winner.

I actually really like Magical Dreamers: The Wind, Star and Waves. Blue Water Blue Sky is all right, perhaps even better than that, but not as good. The second match is incredibly easy for me. I like The Girl Who Stole the Stars and I still don't get the love for The Original. As for the third match, I actually found myself liking Writhe in Pain, and I think I did the first round it was in. Life ~ A Distant Promise edges it out though. So yeah, Chrono Cross curbstomping, but I did relisten to them to make sure that opinion held. Writhe in Pain came closest to proving me wrong.
