Rivalry factor is also how much people care about the characters as a duo. Sora/Riku are fairly popular characters in KH. Squall/Seifer is a better rivalry game wise but who actually cares about Seifer? Honestly.

Actually, Dissidia may explain why he stayed pretty constant despite everything KH related bombing the last few years. Today's match notwithstanding, because this is clearly a result of Seifer being useless compared to Riku.

Final Fantasy isn't falling off like KH has. That's just the nature of this website. I still think Squall can beat Sora 1v1 much more impressively than this. He's really having to fight with Sora and a midcarder in Riku while carrying what very well may be dead weight.
Doesn't help Seifer wasn't even in Dissidia so he could get a boost, or at least some exposure.
So through the feedback system I suggested that in the extra day before the finals match, we get a bonus poll of Batman vs. The Joker against one of the semi-finals losers (so either the loser of Mario vs. Bowser/Trainers or Link vs. Ganon/Cloud vs. Sephiroth), or a bonus poll after the championship where Batman vs. The Joker faces the champs.
Such a poll would probably draw by far the most votes of any poll this contest.
However anything through the feedback system is likely to be ignored, of course. So can anyone who actually chats with Bacon or something suggest this to him?

IMO we should have the battle for 3rd place on the day off, and then a bonus match (Batman/Joker) as a bonus round.

I vastly prefer an all fictional character battle over couples. Couples is....alright. I guess.
Couples would be predictable. At least with all fictional, we have some debate on who will do well and who wouldn't, or whether or not some characters could dethrone Link or beat other noble niners.
Sonic/Amy Rose would probably be horrifically weak, to the point that Sonic/Tails or whatever might actually be stronger! And considering the Sonic fanbase, the latter or Sonic/Shadow or something might even make it in!
Personally, I don't want Link and Ganon vs. Batman and Joker. It would give us a hint as to where they might lie, and if they are to bomb or succeed past expectation, I'd rather go in blind.
That, and god forbid they do horribly, then selling Bacon on the idea of Fictional Characters mixed with VG characters becomes a lot harder.

I'd rally for Diddy and Dixie to get in. Sure, they'd do horribly, but they are the representation of the greatest game ever made, Donkey Kong Country 2, and there's worse fodder out there.
