Welcome to another round of the Best OST Contest, where we decide the best game soundtrack by voting on the songs in it.
Condensed rules and guidelines: * You must listen to both songs in the match. Use the provided links. * You must vote on the songs in the match. Not the game's overall music. Not how much you like the game itself. ***VOTE ON THE SONGS*** * To help enforce rule 2, All votes must be given for the song title, not the game or the seed number. No exceptions. * Normal contest rules apply about alts, rallying, multi-voting, etc. * No mid-thread tallies, please. * Matches run 24 hours from when they start.
Previous results: Though it's unlikely to matter, there is a chance that the remaining two hours on the poll could affect one of the two matches from yesterday. As a result, I am not yet calling the match.

whisper is pleasant enough until the violin comes in but really not digging it in its more boisterous moments, could have made a really nice minimalist piano piece, sometimes less is more. searching for friends has always been a favorite of mine. although he progressed as a composer in other ways after, I think uematsu might have hit his peak in FFVI as far as just raw melodies go which was always the focus of his music, so many good ones in FFVI
PoR song is pretty interesting but I gotta go with lower norf-er, magmoor caverns. unfortunately this is pretty much the extent of what I tend to appreciate in castlevania music it seems like, most of it is "interesting" and does some fun things but doesn't really evoke any kind of emotion or feeling from me, particularly in the newer games(CV1-3 and SotN have some really good soundtracks), magmoor is the stellar opposite of this, it has this repetitive driving beat and continually uses this one riff in ascending keys. magmoor doesn't constantly introduce new ideas but if you asked me to list some music for "taking a trip to the center of hell" it would be near or at the top of the list
the programmers got lazy with ISotSS too, you can hear a bad loop point on the violin sample, kind of interesting because I can't recall too many soundtracks where you see this a lot and the DS should be a lot easier to cleanly loop samples than some of the older hardware like the SNES. I've actually ripped the flute used in searching for friends out of the FFVI ROM before and you'd be shocked at how tiny some of those samples are, they really knew how to use looping and good sequencing to get the most out of it
loving the playlist since I can just open that in one tab and skip around rather than having to open multiple tabs!
With no additional votes at the 11th (well, 23rd) hour, yesterday's matches are official:
1) Although Primal Scene of Girl Who Watched Japan came back late in the match to give Schala's Theme a scare, the Chrono Trigger surged ahead at the end to win 20-17. 2) The Original blew Dissonant Courage away. GGX advances 27-8.
This is the first time in several days we got back over the 35 vote mark. We've been dipping below 30 this week, so that's a good sign.

Oh, a big machine with flashy lights. A big machine like that has me written all over it. Well, okay, it doesn't. But give me time... and a crayon --11th Doctor
Whisper of the Crystal In Search of the Secret Spell
Wow, both matches are actually fairly close for me. I really like Searching for Friends, one of the only Final Fantasy VI pieces I would constantly listen to out of what I have heard. But Whisper of the Crystal has those really cool string sections that put it a bit ahead for me. As for the second match, ouch. Magmoor Caverns might be my favorite Metroid Prime piece out of what I have heard, I really love the beat and "vocals" it has. Still, my love for Castlevania music prevails yet again; In Search of the Secret Spell is fun and catchy to listen to, and overall I think I prefer it by a tiny bit.
And your welcome for those updated totals. ;) Made Order of Ecclesia look even more wrecked, but the other match was even closer!
