Welcome to another round of the Best OST Contest, where we decide the best game soundtrack by voting on the songs in it.
Condensed rules and guidelines: * You must listen to both songs in the match. Use the provided links. * You must vote on the songs in the match. Not the game's overall music. Not how much you like the game itself. ***VOTE ON THE SONGS*** * To help enforce rule 2, All votes must be given for the song title, not the game or the seed number. No exceptions. * Normal contest rules apply about alts, rallying, multi-voting, etc. * No mid-thread tallies, please. * Matches run 24 hours from when they start.
Previous results: a. As many expected, Bayou Boogie was not strong enough to compete with God's Footprints. Ar Tonelico advances, 22-10. b. What started as a duel ended when Fishy Aroma ran out of steam and The Ones Who Will Save the Earth took over the match. Lufia II advances, 19-12.
------------------------------------------ 3. Chrono Cross vs 6. Lost Odyssey
I remember taking its opposition in my prediction bracket, and I thought I'd vote against it once I heard Girl Who Stole the Stars, but I actually like the Lost Odyssey track. Starts slow, but the vocals enhanced the song considerably. (I'm not a true B8'er, I know. *hangs head in shame*)
Parting Forever
And oh man do I hate to do this. I nominated Secret of Mana, handpicked the songs to make sure Eternal Recurrence was represented as something that wouldn't leave a bad taste in people's mouths (like Danger or The Oracle,) and it has to go against one of my favorite single tracks. If nothing else, the Shatter track wins just out of juxtaposition, considering it's the only song today that isn't slow and soft.
both songs have vocals, it's b8 hell! haven't played lost odyssey but the song has a great melody, uematsu is masterful as always, but not as masterful as mitsuda. love the interplay of different instruments in stars, probably what put it over the top is that uematsu tends to pick a lead instrument and use that solely for a monophonic melody most of the time, stars just has a much more varied timbre palette. something that also stands out to me is that the piano in stars actually sounds quite a bit better to me than the one in parting despite being two generations earlier, uematsu himself isn't a sound guy but he has his own company and other people working with him, but it's also a testament to how damn good chrono cross was for its time
kind of meh second match, neither song is blowing me away here, though as I listen to it eternal recurrence is growing on me. nothing amazing but it is effectively mystical and transportive, I can close my eyes and go to strange far away lands. neon really does nothing for me, some interesting synth wankery with a lot of frills but I feel it has little substance
The Girl who Stole the Stars -- just the more moving song imho. Eternal Recurrence -- Tough choice.

Oh, a big machine with flashy lights. A big machine like that has me written all over it. Well, okay, it doesn't. But give me time... and a crayon --11th Doctor
to be honest my problem with Radical Dreamers was always that squeaky sound on the guitar.
The lyrics are awesome!

but I basicallly agree with Mycro how the first two songs are just too SLOW and not the vocals themselves being bad (both dont even start till at least halfway through the song any way)

Argh. Get both of these songs the hell out of here. Can't vote on a match this bad.
Admittedly, I have to give Secret of Mana some credit. After VGMC5, I had the game pegged as having an absolutely awful soundtrack, but so far the two songs I've heard here in this contest are far better than the crap that was in VGMC5. However, Neon Mines is still the better track here.

Don't make me guess or assume. I'll state once again that my computer bolds all plain text, so there's no distinction on my machine if you're bolding your answer as the sole means of telling what your choice is.
I really liked both pieces in the first match. The Girl Who Stole the Stars had a slightly bigger effect on me, but still, close call. Neon Mines and Eternal Recurrence are both all right, Eternal Recurrence may be the first Secret of Mana piece I've heard that I have found above average. That said, I still prefer Neon Mines.
