Welcome to another round of the Best OST Contest, where we decide the best game soundtrack by voting on the songs in it.
Match Rules: * You must listen to both songs in the match. Use the provided links. * You must vote on the songs in the match. Not the game's overall music. Not how much you like the game itself. ***VOTE ON THE SONGS*** * To help enforce rule 2, All votes must be given for the song title, not the game or the seed number. No exceptions.
Other details: * The match will last 24 hours from the time this thread is posted. Regardless of when the next day's topic goes up, or when the current topic actually gets counted and closed, votes count up to 24.0 hours after the match's beginning. * Normal contest rules apply regarding alts, rallying, multi-voting, etc. * No mid-thread tallies, or comments related to a vote count. It can influence the voters. Regardless of how excited you may be, please let things evolve naturally. * If there are two matches, you do not have to vote for both. If you want to change your vote, please identify that it is a change to your vote. Do not erase the old vote. * Advanced voting is allowed. Contact me with your vote by PM. Check the spreadsheet for the appropriate songs to listen to: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoS8GGHS9FDGdFprRGpQa3ZtRGcwTTM5VTQ2SWViUGc&hl=en_US * Re-read the third rule. Votes naming only the game will not be counted.
The spirit of this contest is a bit different from what you might be used to in a contest. Upsets are expected. The tournament will be double elimination, so if your favorite game loses here, it isn't done. You can see the rest of the rules on the contest or figure out how the heck we got to where we are here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/60522913
Previous results: a. The Wretched Automatons started strong and never looked back, smashing the venerable N64 title led by Bob-Omb Battlefield. NieR advances, 26-10. b. Despite some minor concerns about which version of the song was used, Strawberry Crisis!! was still too much for Iwatodai Station. Touhou 3 advances 22-14.
------------------------------------------ 5. Goldeneye vs 12. Deus Ex

Oh, a big machine with flashy lights. A big machine like that has me written all over it. Well, okay, it doesn't. But give me time... and a crayon --11th Doctor

Main Title offends me. It's going to advance and send a better soundtrack to Losers because of frontloading. If anyone wants to complain about a game doing abusive frontloading Deus Ex is the chief example. Everything after Main Theme is rather bad. Good thing Neotokyo is likely to show it the door next round, but it's a pity we couldn't get another Epic MegaGames entrant in instead of one-trick-pony Deus Ex. Should've supported Unreal Tournament of Unreal, yo!
Song ranking:
Main Theme>Scrap IO>>Both of the others are pretty bad (Vacant Interference > Caverns)

deus ex main title is cool but I feel like it takes too long to get to the good stuff and I like the atmosphere of caverns a lot, goldeneye soundtrack is really under appreciated(and PD too!).
the melody of vacant interference is good but scrap IO is much more appealing to me stylistically, a few weeks ago I'd never heard of neotokyo before but it's already become a favorite game soundtrack of mine and I will likely end up attempting to emulate it quite a bit in the future. a lot of interesting sample manipulation in this, too bad apparently no one plays this game anymore!
Caverns, easily. Very good song for setting the mood.
Vacant Interference starts out loud and messy, but eventually turns into awesome rocking. Scrap IO starts out kind of weird, also adds some nice stuff (but without getting rid of the weird stuff). Then it calms down and becomes melodic, but there's still something just a bit...off. Advantage...Scrap IO

It being tracker music just makes it super sweet sounding to me.
**** yeah! I tried to get some other b8ers into trackers before but it never worked except for famitracker...really too bad trackers didn't maintain their popularity more, it's really cool to be able to open songs in a tracker and just watch it
It's a good thing I don't like Main Title all that much. I definitely agree that Deus Ex is one of the most frontloaded entrants in this contest with Main Title and UNATCO being the only outstanding tracks from the game and starting as the one-two punch. DuClare Chapel's pretty good, but everything else (especially Paris Streets as the best representative WTF) is casual atmosphere.
If it weren't against my own entrant, there'd be more outrage, but I'm trying not to be completely biased.
But seriously. Main Title and UNATCO as 1 & 2. That'd be like entering Ducktales with The Moon as the first round track.

That's a pretty good analogy. For another example, it's as if I had loaded Scars of Time as the opening song for CC and then left Arni Home as the final song. Just plain nonsensical.

First match had two pieces I didn't really care about, but Caverns appealed a little more. Second match I liked far better, but Scrap IO had a few parts that made it stand out to me more than Vacant Interference.
