The Rules:

-Matches will last exactly 24 hours. Votes after that much time has elapsed will not be counted, even if a new topic hasn't gone up yet.
-This is a contest to determine which character is the most *powerful*. Vote only for the character you think would win in a fight, not the one who's funnier, cooler, or sexier. If you don't do that I can't count your vote.
-BOLD YOUR VOTE. Unbolded votes will NOT be counted.
-Rallying is allowed. Alts are not.
-Fights will take place in a neutral terrain. This does not necessarily mean a *featureless* terrain: assume that both characters will have a chance to use all of their skills to the fullest here, barring setting-specific abilities and anything that requires the presence of multiple enemies (but see below).
-Characters start the fight alone. They don't bring allies with them, like Kerrigan and the Zerg Swarm for instance. Summons are allowed though, provided they're brought once combat has started.
-Fighters retain their usual personalities. They won't fight to kill unless that's their MO, and won't spam their best attacks to win unless, again, that's how they act in their original media.
-Similarly, fighters are unaware of their opponents capabilities at the start of the fight unless their powers facilitate them information (like knowing all there is to know in the universe - this would include who the opponent is and what he can do, as well as weaknesses)
-You don't have to justify your vote, but it helps. If you feel like you can add something to the debate, go right ahead!
-Seriously, BOLD THE VOTE. So important it bears repeating.
-Bracket Link, for viewing past results and future matches:
http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?&tid=408528&tclass=

Past Results:

Most voters would have loved to see the clash between Zero and the General Tor play out. Unfortunately, MPFC isn't quite capable of providing broadcasts of the matches yet, but who knows, maybe someday! In the meantime, the Reploid Hero comes back from a large deficit to win, and will face The Host in Round 2. Votals: 10-6.

(3) GANON1025
N/A
From Board 8's Random Spell Tournament, GANON1025 is a powerful spellcaster, armed with a wide array of strange spells. His spells are Call Drunken Priest, Incantation of Conjure Barbs, Dexterity Deflection, Crafter's Blast of Earth, Unknowable Hex of Fortification and Viciousness, Rains of Force and the Elemental Sun of Nothing. This last spell's power has been described as everything between a powerful archaic spell able to rend any planet near it to a literal sun of nothing - that is, a spell that has no effect! Like all of GANON's other spells, its effects vary wildly depending on his matchup (though they always keep in line with their names), to the point voter discretion and consideration is advised when determining their usefulness.

Host's Note: As a fictional character and not the poster of the same name, RST GANON has no metafictional knowledge beyond those granted by his abilities. He comes into all battles unaware of the opponents he shall face, though he does know that he is involved in a gauntlet of deadly battles.

(6) Vriska Serket
external image
From Homestuck, Vriska Serket is a canny, scrappy and resourceful anti-heroine. A member of the troll race, she is six solar sweeps of age (or 13 years old by human standards), but nonetheless equipped with a dazzling array of abilities. She is the Thief of Light, a player in the game of SBURB who ascended to the God Tiers, providing her with the ability to steal all of someone's luck. This has the effect of causing everything that could possibly go wrong to happen, such as a perfectly stable piece of ground crumbling beneath her opponent's feet. She is also capable of mind-controlling those without heavy protection from psychic attacks, and her weapon of choice is the Fluorite Octet, a set of eight eight-sided dice, which grant her access to more than sixteen million different attacks of increasing power. Most powerful among them is the Ancestral Awakening, which causes her to don the garb of her ancestor, the Marquise Spinneret Mindfang, and gives her enough power to fight a planet-destroying, universe-threatening foe to a standstill.

Note to the poster GANON1025: Due to issues of bias, I cannot count your vote on this match. You are, however, perfectly free to argue to your heart's content.

Note to everybody, while I'm at it: GANON's last spell is missing, as he never got to pick the spell he got from defeating his final opponent. If anyone can provide his opponent's list within an hour that'd be appreciated. Otherwise he will be allowed to pick one spell of his choice from a list of seven rolled by me.

And finally getting to the actual match...this is a toughie, because GANON is a huge ???? factor, but Vriska has a massive bag of tricks. GANON has no showings of psychic resistance, so mindcontrolling him to win looks like a legit strategy to me, and stealing his luck could have the terrible effect of making all his spells, which vary in effect on each matchup, perform at their weakest values, not to mention the possibility of dying to a frozen turkey airdropped from nowhere. Vriska has a bunch of deadly opening moves at her disposal that can win this as soon as the match starts. Will have to think about this.

GANON1025
Although arguably, all of his spells are up for interpretation, he has canonically won a tournament of spellcasters almost entirely on the strength of Sun of Nothing, with the prevailing interpretation being that the spell was an annihilating sphere with the power of a sun. Even if I didn't think that spell was relatively fixed in what it does, I don't buy the power of luck stealing shifting the spell to a different user interpretation of it. Vriska looks like she easily stomps Ganon if this fight actually lasts, but he can oneshot her with Sun of Nothing and from what I remember, opening with Elemental Sun of Nothing was pretty much his only strategy.

That is true that I would most likely immediately start by using the Sun of Nothing, even with no knowledge of who Vriska I probably wouldn't hesitate or anything. I guess it all comes down to how you view that spell.

Uknowable Hex of Fortification and Viciousness is not only capable of protecting GANON from harmful effects actively attempted on him, but actually reversing it on the opponent too. What's more, it's content sensitive and functions independent of GANON's own knowledge or even any mind reading or omniscience, due to the uknowable part.

Summon Drunken Priest can also let that priest pre-exorcise him of any outside control, or intoxicate him so that no one can control him, even himself.

Dexterity Dodge also is pretty broken, it's pretty much a free dodge roll based on his dexterity against any effect, with none of the attack's accuracy even counted against it.

And of course, he has all his other stuff made for camping out a spot and making reaching him so hard, and if he gets Elemental Sun of Nothing off, he almost instant wins.

Best chance you have against GANON is being literally invincible against magic and killing people without attacking them.

I guess I'll go into what I think the powers are:

Call Drunken Priest - This summons a drunken priest, obviously. But I consider this to be of the "battle-mage/healer" kind of priest and not a regular religious man. So he'd have a variety of buffs and heals and such.

Incantation of Conjure Barbs- I see this as vines with barbs on them (like bramble) coming out of the ground to either hold a person or create some bad terrain/trap

Dexterity Deflection- Dodge an attack, and send its effects back at the opponent

Crafter's Blast of Earth- "Blast of Earth" refers to obviously shooting out earth, I see as being able to take any ground around me and using it as a projectile. "Crafter's" allows me to shape the earth into any kind of shape that I want before I shoot it out.

Unknowable Hex of Fortification and Viciousness - I guess what KJH said, actually. A buffing move that is independent of my knowledge, but while helpful to me is harmful to the opponent in some way

Rains of Force- Basically shoot out a rain of vague magic that has a heavy heft or gravity to it, if that makes any sense

Elemental Sun of Nothing - Obviously, I see this as a huge and intensely powerful magic attack with the potential force of a black hole

and ganon. between his protections, magic, and fact is he's a fantastic spellcaster. here's a guy who was in a tournament of mages where ALL of them learned their opponent's spells by simply fighting them once. they could do incredibly different things, some useless some useful, and some with black hole suns like ganon.

Well that's the thing, his spells don't have a random aspect of it, they're just based on user interpretation. So although that means his spells could have multiple effects, it's not like he doesn't know what's going to happen before he casts it. And like I said, he won the spellcaster tournament with it, so it'd be hard to interpret it as doing nothing at the very least.

That's true, one of my feats is winning the entire BST with that spell, so if you think the sun of nothing isn't good you would have to compensate my win with that as well. Maybe luck would have no bearing on my spells anyway, the power of them don't change in-canon it's just how you perceive them to be.

No showings of immunity. Hexes have always been attacks on everything ever so I don't buy the Hex doing much. Maybe the drunken priest can do something, but summons usually take time to function and the priest is a lesser caster in any case. Considering Vriska is pretty damn speedy while in Ancestral Awakening mode, if she mind controls GANON she has time to land a killing blow with ease, if he doesn't kill himself.
