They've got too much nostalgia on the brain by rooting for Launchpad over Einstein (of the two, Launchpad is their #1, right?). A Launchpad win would actually make people happy since millions love Ducktales. ALBERT EINSTEIN winning would be far more effective trolling.

WarThaNemesis2 posted... Alyx being weaker than WCC here has more to do with Gordon being barely stronger than Peach whereas Gordon is comparable to Link on GameSpot. If it weren't for outside rallying I'd have taken Alyx as stronger than Cube in a GameSpot match without a second thought.
To best gauge Gordon, you gotta realize that he had two different rallies in that contest: the famous one where Steam blasted past Link and its aftershock saved him against Mario, and the grassroots-one where he barely edged out Solid Snake. His other matches give us these looks at him:
R1 - 74.6% on Bomberman R2 - 65.5% on Yoshi R4 (the round between rallies) - 59% on Ryu
While they're all fine numbers that prove Gordon was a legitimate threat, I don't know that any of them prove he was actually championship-material on his own. Going by GameFAQs's standards, I think they'd all suggest Gordon would be in the Noble Nine...but none of them except maybe Bomberman would suggest he'd be championship-material, and I don't think GameSpot would be as kind to Bomberman and Yoshi as GameFAQs.
We can also look to GameFAQs again to see Gordon/Alyx and their relationship...where he'd be expected to break 78% on her before SFF. I don't think Episode Two was out yet and I know the Orange Box wasn't out to revamp Valve, so maybe that changed some things for their contest-correlations. That said, she hasn't made another contest since and there's still a huge gap from the only time we could compare them.

Side-characters suffer more from a game being weak/weakening than the main characters. See: Zelda 2011, Frog/Magus 2005 and beyond. Alyx will be much much stronger compared to Gordon on a site where Half-Life 2 is possibly the strongest game than one where Half-Life 2 doesn't do way better on Prime 2011 than Half-Life 1 did in 2004.
AxemRedRanger posted... HK-47 has the lead on Garrus now.
Daxter is up to 47% on Alyx. 4chan could conceivably take her out this round if they tried.
They've been saying their goal is to keep that match close incase Dogmeat isn't able to take out Luigi, since Alyx has a much better shot at knocking out Luigi than Daxter does... but if its looking like Dogmeat has it clinched, they'll do everything in their power to make Daxter win.
Interesting... even though Launchpad was the ONLY character that got an extremely high number of proxy-votes in Round 1 (everyone got less than 100 whilst Launchpad had 560+), there was still a 5000 vote difference between him and Captain Price just counting non-proxy votes.

I didn't know Zelda games were supposed to be linked. (No pun intended.) -freshmakerrrr Currently playing: Tetris (NES)
So Final Fantasy mainstays lost to Gears of War and Halo characters. Wonderful. Even worse is that after both Master Chief and Marcus Fenix lost in round 1 in the hero contest, I thought that Halo and Gears would be weaksauce on Gamespot, but now those franchises' main side characters are in round 3.
What is this nonsense. I'm...no longer following this contest much, needless to say.

Keep in minds that the number of cheated voters a character got is not necessarily equal to the number of cheated votes the GameSpot staff found. Launchpad probably got tons more cheated votes than the votes that got caught.

Pokemon VGC2011 NW Regional - Top 8 Pokemon VGC2011 US Nationals - 54th place
I'm gonna goof around with some Epona-numbers crossing from GameSpot to GameFAQs -- hardly safe, but worth a look as well. I'll assume Epona finishes with an even 55% since she's slowly dropped through-out her match.
If she could beat _____ like she could on GameSpot, then she'd...
WCC in CB8: 59.18% on the Boss, 38.68% on Luigi (Amaterasu got 40.41% on him). Midna [assuming Navi = Midna and Epona didn't SFF Navi] in CB8: likely finishes third between Rikku and Liquid Snake in the vote-ins, 43.79% on Sora (Bowser got 54.7% on him)
I was hoping for more comparisons out of this, but I see GameSpot doesn't provide the examples to make that work...dangit.
It's worth noting that if you take Midna being right being Mewtwo in CB7 seriously, Epona has a chance against Ganondorf. That'd be quite the upset, though I'm not taking it!

Uh... is HK-47 seriously gonna beat Garrus? Like, seriously?
Really happy for Dogmeat, though. I love Luigi and all, but he gets to shine in our contests! Dogmeat may never make it into a Character Battle, so he deserves some time in the limelight here.
-- CRAZY DAVE (PLANTS VS. ZOMBIES) Your Character Battle IX champion.
Round probably ends in an hour. Looks like Dogmeat managed to pull off the victory against Luigi, and HK-47 was able to pull off the victory against Garrus.
GS announced all the winners; HK took the closest win against Garrus. Very smart by 4chan to influence that one (I'm assuming they did) because an older character like HK is far less likely to get Facebook'd than Garrus, a new guy in a huge upcoming game.

Looks like Otacon took a big early lead over Epona, as well. Not as big as the others though but thats a match that 4chan doesn't really care about so I don't think they are really influencing it much. The other matches are close to doubling it in votes
Are you sure that Launchpad and Einstein would meet in the finals? I think it would be a semifinal match. If it is, then 4chan should be pulling for Otacon to make the finals from the other side, since he's far less likely to get supported than a Valve or Zelda character. Dogmeat is also a better option than Alyx or Epona, but Otacon is the best one.

Maybe they'll come to their senses and realize Albert is the best winner with their goal (trolling) in mind. I look at these eight and think the best final for trolling is actually Albert/Dogmeat. Fallout or not, it's DOGMEAT.

I agree Albert would be best, but its basically a giant co-operative deal with /v/ (Video game Board) and /co/ (Cartoons and Comics board). /Sci/ is kinda in on it but they're too small to be very important. The deal with /co/ helping was to make Launchpad the winner, so thats why they're going for that.
Who knows if /v/ will just backstab come finals time though. They have no honor!
If some of these specific boards are large enough to influence this, then 4chan is probably one of the most active message board communities on the web, right?

I'd say its easily the biggest overall forum on the English speaking internet. On each major board, you can have hundreds, if not thousands, of people active on it at once.
Only one I can think of overall thats bigger is 2ch, the Japanese equivalent which is what 4chan was originally based on.
Honestly, while I'm surprised 4chan let Tails get to Launchpad, it's probably for the best, since Tails isn't monumentally strong (not that anyone in this contest is, given that Yoshi was likely a threat to win, this is like if we re-ran the Villains contest and didn't have Bowser, Ganondorf, or Sephiroth.) and isn't going to get a big facebook rally. They might be less at risk if they let Luigi get to Launchpad, too.

It's hard to tell if Epona will be rallied against due to her LoZ-background or rallied for due to her being a horse. Previous matches have seen her dwindle a little day-by-day, so it'll be in her best interest to lead by the end of the night; otherwise, she'll have to break that trend.

I think you mean "4chan in it." While I don't think Einstein/Launchpad should be in the contest anyway, look at who they've supported. Bub & Bob, General RAAM, Albert Einstein, Launchpad...not a lot in common! Most of the time, they's just taking whoever's facing someone they dislike and running with it as far as they can (Falco doesn't fit that bill, though him facing Einstein made too good of a reference for them to ignore).
I had predicted this contest would feature the least interference, yet it's gonna have the most now. Oh, GameSpot.....

Everything else RAAM did was someone else.
That was thanks to Epic posting it on their official website. Thats the reason they wanted to get rid of Dom now, before they'd give Epic a chance to do that again.
I'm just glad that Launchpad will not be allowed in GameFaqs' next contest. But I'm worried that Einstein will get nommed in and take a few rounds. After all, GameFaqs likes their joke characters too.
Still, we get near triple the vote totals in 12 hours that GameSpot gets in 7 days. That's cuts down on rallies big time. Some stupid niche board can't influence the outcome. I think that's why they care less about our contest.
