The 360 controller is the closest to "perfection" I've ever felt. Feels very comfortable, the two sticks are awesome, the face buttons feel good, and the triggers are kickass. Yeah, the D-pad blows, but I hope that's the only major thing Microsoft works on for their next controller. Nothing else needs changing.

Don't know how anyone could ever praise dualshock while it has side-by-side analog.

Can't think of anything worse than can be done to a controller.

Don't most people consider the 360's controller better for shooters? Maybe Killzone or Resistance?

Xbox controllers suck. I've never really liked them. They don't feel intuitive with their button placement.

Probably hate them for the terrible D-pad more than anything else though.

Resistance and Killzone for starts, any FPS really. Any game with AIMING, actually. Uncharted will be twice as good with this.

I mean, I guess if you do, that's cool. I don't think there are any PS3 games that I would want to the 360 controller in place of the PS3, though.

the only thing I'll give you is the sticks, and I guess the triggers

the controller itself is very uncomfortable to me, and I hate the face buttons

perfect controller is CCP with 360's sticks, and GC/360's stick placement

I feel like I have to preface this question with I AM NOT TROLLING BUT...

Apart from the better d-pad, what advantages does a Sony controller have over the 360's? The 360 has triggers and a much better placement for the sticks.

I can't even begging to image your issues with the face buttons.

They are the only things that are essentially identical on everything.

Unless you don't like how they're "rounded".

Placement on the d-pad is worse. I can live with the left analog stick in either place but I want my D-Pad in the primary spot if I'm going to be playing games that need it. I don't like triggers/bumpers and feel like they're a downgrade from just straight buttons. The 360 pad is more comfortable and I like how the buttons feel when you press them, but besides those two things I like the Dualshock better in every respect.

I don't have a problem with the stick placement of the PS3 controller. I don't think the 360 controller is bad or anything -- because it isn't -- but I disagree about the awkward angle of the sticks being "better placement." Maybe it's just because I've used that style of controller for over a decade, so it's a natural fit for me. I also like that the triggers aren't springy like the 360s, but that's probably just me.

Maybe I just never spent enough time with the Xbox controller, but the thing doesn't feel comfortable. Like, I'm never really sure how I'm supposed to hold the thing.

And whenever I would play something, it felt like I was constantly having to look down to remember which buttons were what. Always forgot where those stupid black and white buttons were.

Plus, I don't play enough games where the 360 controller is "preferable" in the first place, so I'd rather just have the Dualshock.

Well, the Dual Shock face buttons are pressure sensitive, whereas the 360's aren't. It's pretty much trivial, but you do have to press harder to get the buttons to register on the 360 versus the Dual Shock.

yeah that's something that actually bothers me about the dualshock, how the buttons are analog. I like buttons to be either off or on with no wiggle room. one of the worst things about the PS2 controller is how you have to hold down the gas button really hard to go max speed in games like NFS Hot Pursuit 2.

My experience with the 360 controller is extremely, extremely limited.

But again, I don't really plan on having very much experience with Xbox ever since the exclusives they emphasize are rarely games I actually care about. Any kind of exclusive I actually care about usually comes out for Playstation.

old games

I mean that's the whole reason the Classic Controller's positioned as it is, since its main focus is on SNES/NES games from the VC

OK so for PSN store retro stuff?

There is only one modern genre that benefits from the D-Pad, hardly an excuse to tolerate side-by-side analog.

the d-pad on the 360 controller is terrible, and the dualshock could use gamepad-like triggers, but other than those two nagging issues, both controllers are fine. there's no point in arguing which controller is better, because it'll simply come down to preference; I can't experience the level of comfort LTM feels when he holds a gamepad, so if he says he likes it better than the dualshock, who am I to argue?

But again, I rarely play games where it's necessary to use them both to a large degree, so whatever.

Xbox controller feels like it's designed for genres I don't care about, which is probably why I never really liked it.

there's nothing to tolerate, it works fine either way and actually looks-wise it's better because it's more visually pleasing to have it symmetrical. when you don't care where the left analog stick is, the 360 becomes "putting the d-pad in an awkward place for absolutely no benefit." I don't see why you'd only count modern games, a lot of people use these controllers to play old games, either on their consoles or through hooking them up to their PC.

Yeah, I can't say I use the D-Pad all that often. When I play SF4, even, I use the analog sticks -- which is both good and bad in my experience. I don't see how the 360 analog placement is "superior" for most games, though. I think you could argue that it does favor FPS more, but aside from that, it's pretty much a push in every way. I've used both pretty extensively, and I wouldn't say one is significantly worse than the other, though I've always liked the Dual Shock.
