I've definitely enjoyed the other 2-D Zeldas I've played, though. I keep playing Zelda games, thinking I'm eventually going to "get it," and I never do. I've never really had the urge to pick up another Pokemon game to see if I "get it" because I already know it's not really for me. But then, that battle system is just way too slow for my liking. If you could turn the ATB up to around 4x max speed, I think my opinion of FFIX would increase a fair amount.
