I've been trying to get my 2 mile run time down, but I'm first focusing on my 1 mile. Just did 6:43 yesterday, but I could have went a lot harder, gonna push it again tonight. Was doing 6:15 ish back in highschool, which is respectable. Any avid runners here?

I need to get to 2 miles under 13 minutes before October 23rd, so I'm trying my damndest to get to 6:15 comfortably first.

Speaking of regional differences, I'd just like to say that running in Florida during the summer is ridiculous. When I was on Cross Country our entire team shaved 3-4 minutes off their 5K time when fall rolled around, without ramping up the workouts or anything; the few times I've ran in other regions, it was like heaven.

regionally it's really just a matter of altitude. high altitude training would be awesome.

I had to race against the top two national runners when I ran (Mortimer and Downin). x-c in NH was like football in Texas 'back in those days'.

I've been riding my bike a lot and I don't really have a good place to run, but I think a reasonable guess would be around 7 minutes.

I'm still not in the kind of shape I would like to be but things are so much better than they were 8 months ago and so I'm absurdly happy with 7 minutes.

x-c in Texas is like football in Texas. Well, not in regards to cultural importance, but in terms of competitiveness and skill level compared to other states, it definitely was. Making varsity on my team required around a 4:30 mile time, the fastest runners were around 4:15 to 4:20, and in my four years we placed 7th, 4th, 7th and 7th at State. I was one of the slowest kids on the team with my 5:30 =P
