I'm just saying I can run a mile in ~7:30 and that's nonstop. Now, I already find it hard to believe that everyone in this topic can run a mile nonstop but then everyone's saying they run it in around 6 minutes. When I'm running in my gym with young, fit, college kids, hardly anyone passes me on the track - I'm the one doing most of the lapping. So yeah, I'm calling major bs on most of this topic, except for neon's mullet.

...Because everybody running at a gym is actually trying to time a mile and not just, you know, jogging or anything.

If you think 7:30 is fast, I don't know what to tell you.

Hell, the fact that you think running a single mile is some kind of big achievement...

Something is horribly wrong if you CAN'T run a mile nonstop.

You made it a point to say you lap people at the gym, and that you don't think everybody here could run a mile.

You definitely insinuated all of it.

Yeah I said that. But I never said it was fast or that it was a big achievement. I just said in general, this many people don't run 6 minute miles.

Actually, no I probably wouldn't have.

you call that fit? that's not fit. just because your body looks in shape due to being slim/lean does not mean your muscles/respiratory system are prepared for running.

Yeah man, running a mile "nonstop" is really ****ing easy to do. I hardly ever run for fun or exercise these days, but when I do I can run almost three miles "nonstop", at an average pace of 10 minutes per mile. And again, I hardly ever run. Could I run my 6:20 mile these days? Oh god no, but I can definitely run a mile without having to stop.

You know, I'm with Menji on this one.

No, 7:30 isn't particularly fast for those who are athletically inclined, but are we seriously expected to believe most of board 8 is such?

It's pretty damn fast for those whose primary interest is video games and aren't actively involved in some sort of sport or something.

5:01 was my best time in high school 6 years ago, but I stopped running after I moved to the UK. Now I would be lucky to get under 8.

Well only the people who have ever bothered to time themselves while running a mile would even have an answer to this question. That alone would disqualify a majority of people who couldn't run a mile in under 8 minutes.

I was running under 7:30 in like 6th or 7th grade. I would hope I could do that now just because I'm taller, without training at all. Seeing as I wasn't training then either.

Well, technically I could run a mile, but it would involve a ton of stopping to make sure my knees don't get hammered.

but

Flat footed + bad form + bad knees = putting a ton of pressure on the inside of my knees, and they get really inflamed really easily if I put a lot of stress on them.

Biking is much less strenuous for me.

tried to go jogging today. didn't make it a quarter mile because my left knee hurt too much. jumping right into 8-10 mile runs probably wasn't the best idea.

I do a pretty hilly 10k (6mi) at about 7 per mile, so I imagine something a decent chunk better than that. Haven't timed myself for just a mile since elementary.
