"So they're going to give everybody who bought a 3DS prior to this point the opportunity to download a collection of 10 NES games for free before they hit the eShop. hellllll yessss
worth it especially since I only paid 220 for mine
See, Nintendo understands the needs of the core customers who bought in early to feel satisfied with their purchase. So they're going to give everybody who bought a 3DS prior to this point the opportunity to download a collection of 10 NES games for free before they hit the eShop. They'll also be giving out ten Game Boy Advance titles, including Yoshis Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong, before the end of the year. These GBA games are currently expected to be exclusive to early adopters or, as Nintendo calls them, "Ambassadors."
So, you're going to get twenty old games for free, some of which are very old and have already been milked to death on other downloadable platforms (NES games include Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber and The Legend of Zelda). This is supposed to make up for it.
pjbasis posted... wtf can I just buy one now then?
Super Circuit alone is going for 20 bucks at gamestop. Stupid thing to say.
No kidding. Just the other day I bought Castlevania: Circle of the Moon for $10, MMBN3 for $5, and Yoshi's Island for $15. This is a fantastic deal as far as I'm concerned.
Xiahou Shake posted... Damn, that free stuff for early adopters is awesome, makes me happy to have one already.
Especially with how we've gotten stuff like Excitebike 3D for free and all. Not the best stuff ever but still cool to have for free.
Whoa! I already have most of those GBA games, but I go back to Yoshi's Island and Metroid Fusion every now and then and it would be nice to not have to have the cartridge.
another great thing is those 20 games being Virtual Console games because the 3DS's VC is way better than the Wii's with save stating features and stuff like that
These free games are available to anyone who owns a Nintendo 3DS system and uses a wireless broadband Internet signal to connect to the Nintendo eShop at least once before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Aug. 11. These users will automatically be registered in the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program.
Basically, as long as you have a 3DS and go online one minute before it officially goes on sale (August 12), you will be eligible for the free games. Someone with a friend in retail might be able to take huge advantage of this. I wonder if it would be possible to get said retailer friend to sell it to you at the sales price a day early.

A vast majority of people waited (as evident by the price drop in the first place), and the early adopters are big fans who so far seem happy with 20 free games.

considering a lot of these VC games are one's I would have gotten anyway since it's nice to have them all without searching for the old carts, there's no reason to be upset by this at all. Really Metroid Fusion is already more than enough!
I'm still not sure why people even want one at this price. Is 3D that important to you? Because it's literally the only reason to get one. Isn't the online still really bad? I hope the Vita demolishes this thing.
And it would seem people were right. Nobody is buying a 3DS because it's a DS. Gamers know the difference, but parents do not.

Wait, wait, wait... Wii VC doesn't even have save states?!

If you like Blitzball, try Captain Tsubasa II (in English) for NES! Top games: http://unikgamer.com/users/vlado-309.html

sort of. It save stated the exact point where you quit playing, but you couldn't just save it whenever you wanted and reload that save later which the 3DS VC allows you to do

Resident Evil: Revelations. I still wouldn't be very interested if not for that game. Also, the DS is very well regarded, and I've barely ever played that. For someone who never owned the original, getting a DS and 3DS for $170 seems like a good deal.

At first, seeing this made me think that I need to jump on a 3DS now in order to get in there in time. But after thinking about it for a second, I think I'll take the $80 price drop. The games that they've listed, at least, are ones that either I already own or I wouldn't have planned to download on the VC anyway. It certainly seems to be a great strategy to drum up sales, both because of the sudden influx of interest at the ridiculously lower price, and from the rush of those who go out and buy one in the next 2 weeks in order to become an "Ambassador"
