I agree, but I'm willing to let this go. We get Punk back and he's at the very top of the company right now.

The worst thing they can do here is have Cena beat Punk clean. The whole angle has been so good, so far beyond what you usually expect, that it HAS to have some sort of lasting effect. Have Cena beat Punk and things continue as normal, back to square one? ...It might happen, unfortunately.

Punk should've been off TV for at least a month. I get it, I get it, they wanna hype this at Summerslam-- but why not just put it off till the next PPV and have Punk return at Summerslam?

Eh, they could have gone about it better, but I see why they brought him back so soon. They're scared of the angle losing momentum, and maybe even scared of the interest in Punk cooling.

If they allowed Punk to keep his free reign to go anywhere he wants with the title, interest would'nt have cooled down. In this social media age, it's really easy to keep tabs on somebody. All Punk would need to do is be his smartass self on that, commenting on the state of the WWE from time to time, and then a month later he can come back.

I'm glad he's back, but it should've been a bigger deal.

they're doing other stuff that's pretty major. Cena might be changing, but needs to be pushed more to do so (which needs Punk). the Vince-HHH thing started with Punk, and HHH can't just be a goof week in week out as that gets stale, especially after a shakeup like that - you need something major under his belt that's different from Vince (which needs Punk). the two belts issue begins here too - Punk has the true belt, Cena does not. does this mean neither Cena nor Rey were champions? were they temporary champions? but if you keep the belt going for a while it starts to establish some credibility for itself; none exists here. the belt came out tonight and upon crowning the champ and having him face the last reigning champ before it was taken away.... the real one comes out. no credibility to the new belt as it literally lasts 1 night. at the center of all the WWE changes, it's Punk. while he can be red hot with the media, there's little better than doing it by also making sure he's there to keep him at the forefront of all problems or even all potential problems. if you want more exposure, he's gotta be with a live mic on TV. and considering all he basically did was give everyone blue balls with an "Im baaack" kind of return, with nothing else really done, it's clear that next week is his real return.

Eh. I'm just reminded of the old WCW-- Sting left for over a year, well over. He made cameo appearances, but the mystery really boiled. I was hoping for something like that with Punk, where it kept being a mystery what his status was-- maybe he comes to the show as a member of the audience, or something. But in general he's kept off TV and only mentioned as "that guy we can't mention" for a while.

Honestly I think they screwed this storyline up right when they announced a title tournament so quickly. Just kinda belittled the impact of losing the belt. They had a great chance to redeem it tonight... I was really hoping that Cena would win the title and throw it in the trash, or something. That would've been amazing.

All I wanted was like a month. Barely even got a week. Oh well.

people are fickle. in this social media age you absolutely need to be on top of it and can't just 'let it simmer' for much because everyone can have tabs on everyone. there's too much information about everything out there that if you aren't actively running a ball then you lose it.

he wasn't there last week and proved it, giving some disbelief. this week he returns to basically showcase that he'll be there next week.

pretty much a perfect example there! sheen was all over the news everywhere for 2 weeks, then people stopped, moved on to other things, and this was a clinically insane hollywood star who decided he should literally lives with a pair of whores. he tried to get some of it back but couldn't. simply put, no creativity, magic, or consistency to work with.

Punks' got all that and no doubt could revive something... but why take a chance like that when you can make all of it continue off of where it left off relatively fresh from the break?

Eh, I think you're overestimating the power of social media these days. You can still keep secrets-- you just gotta work harder for it, and integrate the media into your secrets. I mean I don't seem to recall anyone in here being able to bullseye when he was going to come back, or anything like that. You just keep making Punk make appearances and stuff and it'd work out fine. One month isn't long to ask-- that's like 4-6 shows or something, and they were already down one.

Steen also has the benefit of a dedicated and MUCH smaller base to work with, because everyone who watches Evolve also watch ROH and know what's going on. PWG's further away but even then, you're working with indie fans, so that's not a hard thing to accomplish. effectively he's working a smaller group of people, a much more dedicated group of people, and still hasnt' been doing this for too long either!
